roadranger
jim, dylan, thanks for your help anyway. i don't know what the problem could be either. i've checked to make sure i have the right directory, i've downloaded mvpedit from a couple of different sources to make sure mine wasn't corrupt, i've checked the data file for the portraits.big file, etc. the only thing i can think of i maybe to download an older version of mvpedit, if i can find one, and see if that works
Yankees763
when choosing the data folder under options, try double clicking on the folder instead of just highlighting it.
roadranger
i've tried double-clicking the data folder to make sure it's open. i've use eagraphics editor and gone into the game files and opened portrait.big, and the portraits show up fine in that program. i've downloaded some new portraits from this site into my myp edit folder. when i open any roster (the mets as an example), it says "searching for picture" then "no picture found". when i click on the photo square and bring up the 'new picture' and 'new alpha', the .bmp photos show up fine, but won't stay. i know i had to click on the delete .fsh when i did this a couple of years ago, but it won't work now. when i click on the import data button, it shows the data being imported, but it only takes about 2 or 3 seconds. if i remember right from a couple of years ago, this took about 20 seconds to import. i went into the data/frontend and unchecked the read only box to see if that would make a difference, but it didn't. when i've tried to install any patches, it gives me an error message saying it can't find the file. when i installed and tried to use tywiggins editor and clicked setup and selected the mvpbaseball 2004.exe, it would show 'mvpbaseball 2005 is not...' in the square at the bottom, so something is definitely missing, but i don't know what. i've installed and uninstalled both the game and mvpedit 4 or 5 times. i thought maybe the portrait.big file on the cd might have gotten corrupted, but it did show up in the eagraphics editor, so that can't be the problem unless another file is corrupted. i know you guys have exhausted your ideas, but if you come up with anything, i'm willing to try anything. Wait a minute.... Look at the phrase above I underlined - you typed MVP 2004. Did you mean MVP 2005 or MVP 2004? If you are trying to edit MVP 2004 files, that is your problem! roadranger
sorry, my bad. i meant mvp 2005. i just uninstalled mvpedit2.6 and mvp baseball 2005 again and tried it using every directory i can for the import .dat files. do you know where i can download an older version of mvpedit. i've looked all over the net and the only place i can find it anymore is the 2.6 version on this site. when i import the .dat files from c:program files/easports/mvpbaseball2005/data, it shows it as importing the data, but takes only 3 seconds. something makes me think it isn't downloading the portraits from the portrait.big file or it should take longer to import. maybe i have a corrupted file in my mvpedit program

Here's the older version of MVPEdit:MVPedit2005_04.rar
roadranger
i've also tried the database folder too. it imports fine, but only takes 3 seconds to import. all of the data imports, but not the portraits. thanks for the mvp edit. i'll try it
roadranger
jim, i uninstalled my mvpedit and installed the version you linked. now, when i try to import from the mvp baseball2005/data/database it gives me the following error message: "runtime error 3163 the field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. try inserting or pasting less data". Jim825
jim, i uninstalled my mvpedit and installed the version you linked. now, when i try to import from the mvp baseball2005/data/database it gives me the following error message: "runtime error 3163 the field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. try inserting or pasting less data". That's because the rosters you are trying to import were created by the 2006.2 version of MVPEdit. You can only import rosters into MVPEdit that were created by the same version. For example, if you export .dat files with the 2005.4 version of MVPEdit, you can only import them into the 2005.4 version of MVPEdit. If you export .dat files with the 2006.2 version of MVPEdit, you can only import them into the 2006.2 version of MVPEdit. You cannot import rosters created by the 2005.4 version of MVPEdit into the 2006.2 version of MVPEdit and vice versa. You CAN open .mbe files in either version of MVPEdit, no matter what version of MVPEdit they were created in. It's just the .dat files that you can't mix and match between different versions of MVPEdit.
yankseagles
The double-clicking of the data folder worked for me, thanks Yankees763.
roadranger
if i remember right from 3 years ago, when i didn't have this problem, i seem to remember that you had to make sure a certain file had the 'read only' box unchecked. i've tried the portrait.big with both checked and unchecked and it didn't seem to matter. i made sure all of the required .dat files were there. when i unchecked the 'read only' box in data, database, and frontend, it went right back to a check, so i don't know if that's a problem or not. roadranger
i got this to work for the most part now. thanks for all your help guys. i ended up copying the data/database and frontend files into mvpedit and then showed them on the mvpedit 'options' instead of the game directory. i got all of the portraits to show up. they were all of the portraits from the original 2005, so most of the players that are new to the league in the past years didn't show up, only the veteran players. when i clicked on those old portraits and changed the pictures and alphas to one of the newer team portrait files downloaded on this site, the change went smoothly, but i couldn't change any of the players that didn't have a photo (newer players as i mentioned). the picture and alpha would show up when i clicked 'get new picture' and 'get new alpha', but they wouldn't stay. i dug back on one of my flash drives from last year and installed a total portraits file that i had downloaded and installed before. i used both TIT and eagraphics editor to install them into the game and i also copied them into mvpedit. when i opened a roster in mvpedit, all of the portraits showed up great, but when i went to change a portrait (a player that has changed teams since the total portraits file), it would do like it did before for the blank portraits - it would show them and the alphas but after i clicked OK, it would go back to the prior portrait and not show the new one. if i rememeber right from 2 or 3 years ago when i changed pictures, i had to click on the 'delete fsh' button in mvpedit i a certain sequence to get it to work. i've tried that and either i'm using the wrong sequence or it just isn't working for some other reason. i talked with other guys and they said they don't have any problem changing photos without having to click on the 'delete fsh' button. like i mentioned, that worked before i installed the total portraits file, but not now. they problem is 98% licked, so i know it must be a file or procedure i'm doing. as i mentioned, when i did my own portraits (downloading the headshots from pressbox and editing them in photoshop) i had to do the delete fsh thing to get them to show up
