What Will Be Your Goal in Dynasty Mode?

Yankeexdev,

That is very noble of you, and I'm not being facetious. Winning in dynasty mode with the Yankees, Red Sox, or Angels isn't really worth anything, but if you can power the Tigers or the D-rays like you mentioned, that's a real statement.

Also, it would give you a reason to get rid of that monstrosity of a ballpark they have.

Kudos.

[Note I will be doing this on All-Star..I hate playing on MVP]

Goals For Mets:

1. Have one pitcher throw a perfect game.

2. Have one player break the HR record.

3. Win All-Star game MVP.

4. Build up a decent farm team.

5. Win the World Series.

EDIT: And also make a collosiel stadium.

The same as any real-life team: win the World Series.

Heh, y'sure about this Mark? I'm pretty sure most of the low-budget teams just want to turn a profit, since there's no possible way they're gonna be able to compete. I mean, do you really think the old owners of the Brewers or the owners of the D-Rays really want to compete?

It's unfortunate, but that's the game. Also note that I'm not trying to start any yankees thing, since the Angels, Mets and Sox are just as guilty. Really makes you respect the A's though.

Also, one of my favorite victories this year was during a particularly boring lecture, when I managed to trade away 90% of the Indians team and win the World Series. I love simmin' and tradin'. I wonder if MVP05 is going to have such easy trade fodder as free agents as Franco and Galaraga, since the other teams were all too willing to give up good players for the two old guys.

I think the word you're looking for is "Collosal".

Laotzu41, tell me that, given a yes or no option at the start of the season, any team wouldn't want to win the World Series. Obviously if they don't, then they might be happy with secondary goals such as turning a profit etc., but the question wasn't relating to secondary goals.

Given a yes or no, of course they would rather win. But there's a difference between having a desire and taking any course of action that would potentially result in that goal. These teams do nothing of the sort. I may hate George Steinbrenner with an all-consuming passion, but at least he whores out every cent he can to make his team contenders. The main money being spent by other teams seems to be on new stadiums to attract visitors, but the only money re-invested into the teams is for a start player or two to draw crowds.

Occasionally they might attempt to go all-out with a one-off money explosion like the first Marlins championship, but mostly there are teams who are stuck in .500-or-less-land. I give credit to a team like the O's for going for it in a supremely difficult division.

My goals will be to win the World Series with the Yankees for the first few years, beating the Red Sox every chance I get. Create a massive new stadium for them with tons of luxury boxes, and make a lot of money. After about 15-20 years of that, I will take a small market team like Tampa Bay or Milwaukee and turn them into a powerhouse.

Great, we got another one in here that talks like this. :x

Actually I'm the same one.

Sorry, am I not allowed to express my utter distaste for what I view as an evil owner who is ruining baseball? Golly, in that post I even commended him, which is far more magnanimous than I typically am.

I don't particularly have respect for Steiny or Cashman, since I don't really think they do anything creative to rear a team. I, however, do have respect for someone like Billy Beane, who in spite of countless possible criticisms over his GM philosophy, is still able to beat teams that spend exponentially more money. To a lesser extent I respect someone like Theo Epstein, who though he has an insane amount of money, still is able to sabermetric his way past a team spending 150% what he is.

Anyway, now that I think of it, making the D-rays AL Champs seems like one heck of a cromulent goal. Mainly to give them a nice open-air stadium in what is one of the most climatically gorgeous areas of the country. I'm definitely thinking of ripping off SBC and having the balls drop into the gulf. Also, if the past few years have been any indication, hopefully we can modify the wall distance so that they're deep enough to allow for a real pitcher's park. Or, more accurately, a doubles and triples park. I'm thinking of how fun Minute Maid would be if every homerun had to clear outside the park. Now wouldn't that be fun?

I just want to cut payroll and increase revenue while still winning. I know it sounds difficult, but I have the Moneyball bug.

Seriously though, I'll take the Jays and dump salary. There's not a lot of room, but there will be some cheap players out there with something left to prove. I need any extra money to build a nice open-air stadium. The SkyDome is just ugly now.
