Is there anyone out there that can create or show me how to import a pic of myself (Or buddy) for the players I create and import to my franchise? That way I dont have a whole team of no face on the "Defensive Alignment"?! Thanks to anyone with help on this.

You need to set a portrait number in roster editor for your player, then make your portrait in photoshop and import it with Nba2K10_ModTool under the number you set before.

Ok so I downloaded the NBA2k10_ModTool, and I cannot get it to run. Its in a .Jar file. Never seen this before. Does the ModTool need to be in a specific folder? Thanks for any info.

You need Java installed on your system to run the jar executable.

I am totally clueless how to add my pic to it. i tried to rename a pic of me to a .iff....no go. Anyone have a walk through? Can I get a step by step? Sorry for being such a n00b. I have Win7 and Photoshop CS5 (And barely know how to use it....)

Thanks for any and all help on this guys.

Sorry you had to wait a month for a response.

The process is pretty intensive, as I know how to do it. But I figure if I give you my process the more knowledgeable among us can tweak it (and maybe make me faster too).

  1. Close MLB 2K10
  2. Create a backup of your existing portrait.iff and portrait.cdf files from your MLB2K10 installation directory
  3. Open the pic you want as the portrait in Photoshop or GiMP. Crop the photo until it is 512x512 pixels. Also (make sure you're using layers) crop all the background out so that the only layer in your image has the mugshot you want to use, and the rest is to Alpha Channel (if you don't know what this means, stop now and give up).
    4709089921_c8d366254f_b.jpg
  4. Save it as an *.dds file. If you don't have the plug-in for Photoshop to save things as a dds file, you can download it here for your version of Photoshop (if it's not working, just Google "dds plugin for Photoshop [your version]"
  5. Launch the NBA 2K10 Mod Tool, click open, and browse to the portrait.iff file.
  6. When prompted to decompress, select "Yes"
  7. Pick a number from this list that is "Not in use." For this example, we will use 1593. Using the scroll bar in the top left pane, scroll to the portrait ID number corresponding to open number you selected, ours being 1593 for this example.
  8. Click on "Import Res" and select the DDS file you created (ignore the player's face on there already -- it's a copy). Close NBA 2K10 Mod Tool
  9. Now you have the portrait in the portrait file, but you still need to tell your current roster to use that portrait with the specific player. For this you will need TyWiggins' awesome roster editor. You can try it for free if this is the only time you're doing a mod, but I recommend just paying him $10 because then you can use this thing all the time and, like, he deserves it way more than the makers of most things you will spend $10 bucks on.
  10. In the roster editor, load the file that you wish to modify. If it's a My Player, you will want to load the My Player file. If it's your normal roster, load that. These files are found under the saved games folder under C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USER NAME]\Application Data\2K Sports\Major League Baseball 2K10\Saves
  11. Search for the name of the player to whom you want to apply the portrait.
  12. Where it has a numeric value for "Portrait" change that to 9342 which is the number corresponding to Portrait ID 1593.
  13. Save
  14. Start the game and enjoy

That's a great portrait! Haha, I think someone needs to do a total conversion mod using only portraits that look like this, for the entire league.

I appreciate the response, I had Don create my pics for me as I am still totally new to photoshop. Ive been trying to learn different things about it though!

Play Ball!
