MarkB
Similar to the big, nasty, all-encompassing FAQ list I made for MVP, here's one for 2K10. As we can't do as much with 2K10, it'll probably be a lot shorter than MVP, but please post any suggestions you have that should be added. Remember, though, that the thread is for learning the basics for playing and modding the game, not 14 page guides on how to mod things. General Missing players in MLB 2K10 Copy and pasted from the MVP FAQ list, as the reason for missing and incorrectly-named players is the same in 2K10 as MVP '05. Due to various legal reasons, some players have been omitted from MVP 2005. In some cases, it's because the player has left the MLBPA voluntarily and has requested that they not be involved in the game without their permission, in other cases it's because the player is not a member of the MLBPA and if a player is not in the MLBPA, they can't be in MVP 2005. Well, not officially anyway! Here is a list of players that are in the game, but may be using incorrect names or information. You can find the list of names for 2K10 here. When I try to run MLB 2K10, I can hear audio, but the screen is black. In order to run the game, you'll need to have a graphics card which support Shader Model 3 or above. Check with your graphics card's manufacturer if your card supports SM3, or if there are any driver updates which may help. What are the non-MLB parks in MLB 2K10? The MLB parks are pretty self-explanatory when it comes to naming convention, but the minor league stadiums are named rather generically, although many of them are quite accurate representations of minor league parks. Spring Training Spring Training Facility 1 - Bright House Field, Clearwater, Florida (Already modded - here.) Spring Training Facility 2 - Generic park AA Central - Generic park Eastern - Altoona Curve - Blair County Ballpark Southern - Frisco RoughRiders - Dr. Pepper Ballpark AAA Eastern - Pawtucket Red Sox - McCoy Stadium Central - Generic park Southern - Charlotte Knights - Knights Stadium Western - Sacramanento River Cats - Raley Field You may also notice when playing minor league games or games in My Player that there are 3 other fields which are slightly different from the others. These are generic parks, and when playing an exhibition game, you can select them from the Park Settings menu. They are named Metro Stadium (stadium_g01.iff), City Park (stadium_g02.iff) and Municipal Field (stadium_g03.iff). I have not been able to identify any real stadiums which these are replicas of, but if you find any, please let us know. How do I play minor league games? When at the team selection screen, hit the number 4 on your keyboard. For most, this seems to be the key 2K assigned. One of the greatest mysteries of mankind is why 2K chose the 4 key, but it is what it is. Make sure you don't hit number 4 on the number pad. Do stadiums from MLB 2K9 work in 2K10? Nope. 2K made some changes to the file format. Do the rosters expand to 40-man rosters in September? Yes! (Finally!) Can I check my swing in MLB 2K10? For some reason, not yet. 2K are, however, apparently implementing this in a patch. Edited on June 9th 2010 - Check swings have, apparently, been added in patch 1 for PC, released yesterday. See end of post for download links. I'm not seeing many injuries or errors in MLB 2K10. This one is a point of contention for 2K. At this stage, with some of 2K's contradictory statements, it's complicated. The simplest way to answer it is: if you see them, great. You can't tune anything to see more. If you don't see them, you'll need to wait until MLB 2K11. And yes, everyone knows it's pathetic. When playing, I only hear intermittent commentary. There hasn't been too much discussion of this, and it seems that only a certain percentage of users have witnessed this issue. 2K has not made any mention of it as far as I am aware, but those who are experiencing it, myself included, are hoping it will be addressed in the patch. The Pepsi Clutch Player of the Game is often picking players who didn't perform well. Again, 2K know about this, and have, apparently, addressed it in the patch. Edited on June 9th 2010 - Confirmed in PC patch 1 release notes, issue addressed. Downloading modification programs Where can I download Ty's MLB 2K10 Roster Editor? From here. Just click the first link which says "Latest version of MLB2K10 Roster Editor". Where can I download NBA 2K10 Mod tool? From here. Miscellaneous questions How do I get started modding stadiums in MLB 2K10? To mod stadiums in MLB 2K10, you'll need NBA 2K10 Mod Tool. You can download it from the link above. In order to run the program, you'll also need Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your system. You can download Java from here. Just install that and you're ready to go. Once you've installed JRE and extracted NBA 2K10 Mod Tool from the archive, you'll need to run the Nba2k10ModTool.jar file. If you've just installed JRE, the file should automatically be associated with Java, so should run with no problems. If it doesn't, right-click on the file, click Open With, and find Java™ Platform SE Library in the program list, check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box, then click OK. Now, just double-click the file and you should have the NBA 2K10 Mod Tool interface up. From here, you need to decompress and open the stadium you want to mod. To do this, click Open, browse to the stadium file you want to modify - see below for a list of non-MLB stadiums - and click Open. You'll be prompted to decompress the file, click Yes, then wait for the confirmation that this is done. After that, the various components of the stadium will show in the list on the top left. Scroll through these to find a bitmap you want to edit (make sure you go through the SubFile list as well, as this is where most of the graphics are stored), then click ExportRes. This will prompt you to save the .DDS file on your hard drive. Select a location for the file to be saved and click Save. Once that's done, you're ready to go. You'll need to do your own research on how to open and edit .DDS files using your preferred graphics editing program, as this is way beyond the scope of this thread. Once you've edited your .DDS file and are ready to import it back into the stadium, just open the stadium again (note that you won't be prompted to decompress the stadium a second time, because you've already decompressed it), find the part and the subfile that you want to import, and click ImportRes. Find your edited .DDS file, then click Open. Your edited file will replace the original. NBA 2K10 Mod Tool can edit most .iff files in the MLB 2K10 file list, including uniform, stadium, and frontend files. If you want to edit something, try opening it in NBA 2K10 Mod Tool. Note that NBA 2K10 Mod Tool makes backups of any files you decompress. The backup will have the original file name, but with the .bak suffix added. I messed up/moved/deleted/can't find a file, where can I get it? Do I have to ask someone to send me it? No, you don't. You can get any file which came on the original install from the original game DVD. MLB 2K10 uses .cab files to store the game files in alphabetical order. Cabinet files (with the .cab file extension) are automatically associated with a Windows DLL which can open them, so you can insert the original game DVD and grab any file you need from the .cab files. I find My Player mode too boring/takes too long because I can't get skill points quickly enough. Is there any way to increase the number of skill points I have? Yes, you can use a program named ArtMoney, which you can download from here. If you have any questions regarding the use of this software, please contact the author of the program. Sean O has written a guide on the procedure here. When I try to run Ty's Roster Editor, I get an error stating "Unable to bind CLR". In order to run the program, you'll need to have Microsoft .NET Framework installed. You can download .NET Framework Version 2.0 from here. Where do I put downloaded rosters and sliders? This depending on your operating system and configuration. If Windows is installed on your C:\ drive, it'll most likely be as follows; For Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\2K Sports\Major League Baseball 2K10\Saves For Windows Vista and Windows 7 - C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\2K Sports\Major League Baseball 2K10\Saves If you can't see these folders, you'll need to edit your Windows folder options to show hidden files and folders. For Windows XP - Go to My Computer, click Tools, then Folder Options. Click the View tab, find the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button underneath "Hidden files and folders", click it, then click OK. For Windows Vista and Windows 7 - Go to My Computer and hit the Alt key to show the Menu bar. Click Tools, then Folder Options. Click the View tab, then find the "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" radio button underneath Advanced Settings, click it, then click OK. My "My Player" career crashes to desktop when loading. How can I continue my career? There seem to be 2 reasons this occurs. One reason it can occur is because of the postseason goal causing an issue with the save. To fix this, download and install Ty's Roster Editor, load your My Player file, then click Fix My Player. The other is because the game doesn't assign players correctly after post-season call-ups. To fix this, load the My Player file in Ty's Roster Editor, then go through each team's roster, including minor league teams, and make sure each team has no more than 25 players on it, and that each lineup is filled out correctly. What is the status of the patches from 2K? For consoles: 2K has already released 2 patches for PS3 and 360, once soon after release and one within the last week or so. Consoles are currently on patch 1.2. For PC: 2K has sent the first PC patch to QA (quality assurance - basically, testing). We're hoping it'll be released within the next week. Edited on June 9th 2010 - 2K released patch 1 for PC yesterday. The patch release notes can be found here, and the patch can be downloaded from here (self-installing .exe file) or here (.zip file containing the 4 modified files).
