wrigleyville33
I'm a young guy, so I never was able to truly witness old time baseball (with the exception to Wrigley) without the promotional garbage, tool races, and jumbo trons, and rap walk up music found in every other ballpark today. I went to Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, today to see the Barons vs the Cubs AA affiliate, the Tennessee Smokies at Rickwood Field, the oldest park in the U.S., for it's 100th anniversary. Both teams decked out in throw backs, and old school music playing through the speakers, it gave me the feeling I was watching an old ball game. This event was on espn's 101 things for every sports fan to do before they die, and I'm glad I witnessed the event. Anyways, I took a few pictures of the place (sorry I'm awful with the camera): http://img291.imageshack.us/f/rickwoodfield001.jpg/ http://img64.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield003.jpg/ http://img694.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield004.jpg/ http://img16.imageshack.us/f/rickwoodfield005.jpg/ http://img139.imageshack.us/f/rickwoodfield006.jpg/ http://img291.imageshack.us/f/rickwoodfield008.jpg/ http://img39.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield009.jpg/ http://img704.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield010.jpg/ http://img526.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield011.jpg/ http://img594.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield012.jpg/ http://img704.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield013.jpg/ http://img42.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield014.jpg/ http://img84.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield015.jpg/ http://img683.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield016.jpg/ http://img59.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield017.jpg/ http://img97.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield018.jpg/ http://img15.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield019.jpg/ http://img294.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield020.jpg/ http://img97.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield021.jpg/ http://img19.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield022.jpg/ http://img31.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield023.jpg/ http://img228.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield024.jpg/ http://img687.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield025.jpg/ Harmon Killebrew was there signing and taking photos for everyone. The line was really long, but I think it was worth it. http://img210.imageshack.us/i/rickwoodfield026.jpg/

ming
Cool! I would go to this game more but this area of town is pretty dangerous. My wife and I took my son to it a few years ago and two people got dead within a mile of Rickwood. Its a cool thing to do, but the Barons need to move this to the Met where they play their home games and where they play the SEC tournement. Granted it would not be the "Rickwood Classic", but at least it would be safe. Still, its great that you got to go because it is a very unique experience! I actually remember going to Barons home games there with my father...those were good times, thanks for bringing them back to mind!
JHace2k
Cool! I would go to this game more but this area of town is pretty dangerous. My wife and I took my son to it a few years ago and two people got dead within a mile of Rickwood. Its a cool thing to do, but the Barons need to move this to Regions Park (formerly Hoover Metropolitan Stadium a.k.a. the Met) where they play their home games and where they host the SEC tournement. Granted it would not be the "Rickwood Classic", but at least it would be safe. Still, its great that you got to go because it is a very unique experience!
