gowingsgo8803
Hey guys, I got a new laptop today (Dell Studio XPS 16, fully loaded) and started re-installing games from my old laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400, about 4-5 years old), and I started with MVP. I'm fairly sure that the graphics card on the new laptop is an upgrade over the old one, but for some reason, MVP runs with a sideways widescreen screen. That is to say, rather than the widescreen black blocks being north and south, they're east and west. I never encountered this problem before with my old MVP. Also, I've been having a graphics issue with the new install. It seems to be laggy when fielders are throwing, usually when the screen has to pan left or right, otherwise it's alright. I turned down the player graphics, but the difference is ridiculous - all the layers have the same faces, their hands don't wrap around the handle of the bat, the pitchers' hands are very awkward on the ball from the mound, etc. Has anyone ever encountered this? My brother had this issue on his old desktop, but that was because of an inferior graphics card. You'd think that the new one (ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5730 - 1GB) would be a substantial upgrade. I have an 8-year-old desktop running an ATI Radeon 9000 that is still smoother than the laptop, so something's not right. On an aside, I gave TC 94 and 98 a try. Love 94, but 98 doesn't seem to work. I've re-installed it 4 times now without any success, whereas 94 installed perfectly on the first attempt. Clicking on the 98 .exe simply launches the original 2005. Does anyone have any thoughts/tips on what might be the problem with either or what I can do to fix this? Thanks, Marc
mike9472
MVP05 doesn't support widescreen it's a 4:3 aspect ratio, so you should get black bars on the left and right side of the screen. Some laptops automatically stretch the picture, but then the players look short and fat. As far as lag when pitching, I had to turn the resolution down to 640X480 on my dell D620 to get rid of it. I left the player detail on high though, so far no more problems.
gowingsgo8803
Hey Mike, Just noticing that all my games are getting black bars on the sides. I had a 15" laptop before, so I'm surprised it made such a difference. Could it be because my screen is now HD and all the games are being upconverted? Would newer games like GTA4 not have the side bars because they're already HD-capable? I'm now running at the lowest resolution and everything seems to have been resolved. Thanks for your input Mike, I appreciate it.

Thanks for your input Mike, I appreciate it. what's goin' on with the black bars on the sides is this.. your screen is wide and your graphics card isn't scaling the image, so, when a square resolution is displayed on it, it's not stretching. it's being displayed with that resolutions correct aspect ratio, which happens to be what ? 5:4 or 4:3, something like that.. if you want the image to take up the whole screen, i don't know how ATi refers to the setting in their drivers configuration cuase I've had Nvidia for a while, but it would be something with scaling. Jim825
On my laptop, if I right click on the desktop, I get an option to view Graphics Properties. If I select this, I can then view the Display options. In that menu, there is an option to view Aspect Ratio options. In that menu, I can then select "Full Screen," which removes the bars on the sides. That is what I had to do in order to remove the bars from the side. gowingsgo8803
Thanks for the input guys. I found out the screen ratio aspect thing. I tried stretching it out, but it looks awful, so I'll just have to deal with the boxed version. After re-starting to let the machine do its updates, the game seems to be running smoothly, so everything seems to be resolved at this point. Thanks again for the responses guys. Homer
i'd be interested to hear if you figure out the game lag issue. did you try installing the official patches? i was looking into this exact laptop awhile ago, so i'm glad someone else has tried it. i've been curious to see how this game works on these newer and more powerful setups. have you tried installing it in xp mode?
