EA: New Game

When exactly do they lose the rights? January 1st, 2006? If so, I say crank out as many updates, expansion packs, etc. as you can. I don't care if they charge $9.99 for stuff like that. It would be a hell of a lot better than a) waiting for the new games from other developers to come out, B) update my favorite game, c) it would be a nice way to stick it to Take Two.

They would do something like Sports Talk Football, where only numbers are shown and cities like "San Francisco" and "Miami." Can't challenge that in court.

Yes, of they don't use the player names, it would be fine. T2 won't care about that because most people will be buying the game with the real players. If EA does make a new game, it won't be able to include: real life players, teams, Stadiums, or anything of that sort

I'd still buy that over Take Two's game because the gameplay is way better, plus the player models are heads and shoulders better than T2. Besides, if they used the same file types as last year and so on, we could just add the old files in. I'd rather go through all that than to switch to another game that is way below the standard.

PS: TribeTime, back in the day, the Sports Talk Football game I am referring to, did not have player names. I should have mentioned that. Joe Montana on the Niners was "No. 16" and so on. They had the same colors as the real teams but no reference to the NFL, Super Bowl, team names, player names, stadiums, etc.

Yeah, if EA put together something like that I would SURELY buy it over T2 as long as it was fully moddable

Keep wondering why people think its Take Two that deserves having it stuck to them. EA started this battle with the football franchise. They just weren't expecting someone to turn around and do it to them.

I feel no pity for EA in this one.

Mos def. I can't stand these other games. If I was forced to choose however, I'd pick MLB 2006, despite its player model and presentation flaws (a nostalgia pick since I played that series since PSX days of MLB '99).

What if EA decided to release a game in early December of 2005? They could legally put out one last game. Do you think that could happen?

I actually think that would be a great idea, but they'd definitely have to work their tails off to get it done, not to mention take time out of an MLB'er's schedule during the season to do it. I don't think it's out of the question, though.

I don't have pity for them either. I just like their product better and since there will not be a full blown MVP 2006 next year, I am not happy about it.

I think people feel like I do. Their favorite product in the baseball game genre is going to be "no more" and we can't get out MVP fix following this year. I am mad because I really believe this is the top product in baseball video games today and I am being forced to choose another game.

ESPN Football fans feel this way as well. I don't blame them, I just question their judgment on which game is better (but that's a preference thing, they like whatever that game offers, and I like what Madden offers).

So don't get me wrong, I do not feel sorry for EA, I feel sorry for myself and other MVP fans and I'm mad because I can't get the product that I want.

GF22:

I think the majority of people would prefer an EA baseball game more in place of one from TT for a couple of reasons... gameplay and mod capability... and not because of the whole licensing issue.

That's an absurd post...

1. The NFL approached Take Two/ESPN and EA. EA just outbid them. Pure and simple. And with a long money maker like Madden, you would too.

2. At least there is an argument about which football game is better. Madden plays a pretty darn good game of football. With this deal however , MVP (which is the best game hands down) get the raw end.

Nobody is ruining nobody....

They are in this business to make money, plain and simple... and if acquiring an exclusive license is what's required to get an edge, well, of course they are going to do it... who wouldn't?

And NYM91... TT didn't 'brought baseball to this'... it was the MLB who got itself into this... the same way the NFL did it too... because, once again, THEY ALL ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF MAKING MONEY.

Exclusive rights to a sports genre is a monopoly. I wouldn't be surprised if a judge ruled that EA could not have sole rights to NFL video games because it excludes the competition - which is a founding principle of the capitalist system. This, of course, assumes NFL football games is a genre all to itself and not just a subcategory of "video games" in general.

However, Take Two's deal does not exclude the competition per say. You still have a "choice" - albeit a decision between a sh!tty game and a sh!ttier game.

I am just pissed that I won't get a new copy of MVP in 2006. Plain and simple.

what are the odds of EA buying Take2

they are already attempting a hostile takeover of UbiSoft

They oughta take over Take 2 which would give them the MLB rights. We'd hear it from Donut though.

"Waaaahh!" " EA is a monoply , EA Sucks!!!, WAAAAHHHH!"

But what are the chances of EA selling MVP to TakeTwo? The chances seem way too slim knowing EA's history. But, EA will be out of producing a full MVP game for, what is it, 7 years? A lot can happen in 7 years.
