franco74
I hope mvp 2005 improves on walks and called third strikes- It is frustrating to only strike out players with a sharp breaking ball or a fastball- it was pretty rare in last years game to catch the ai looking at an outside changeup - They seem to be including an walks slider - will this affect walks that we give up - I have a feeling this will effect the computer issuing walks to us - but I wonder what it will do for us walking people - this was very hard to do last year - they seemed to have modified the pitching meter - perhaps this make it harder to throw strikes - in my opinion if these issues are addresses properly - this could be a very good game
spitoon
Although I'm somewhat encouraged by the 'walk slider' I still can't see how a human user will issue walks...The pitch meter can be mastered quite easily, and from what I've seen, even in the new version, if you miss your spot, it's just going to miss inside the strike zone somewhere... For anyone that remembers Hight Heat, that was the way to go...press one ball to try to throw strikes, press another ball to throw balls...the thing was that even if you pressed the 'strike' button, often it would be a ball, resulting in walks on a regular basis...I'd ditch the pitching meter in a second to go back to this system.... Definitly, HH's system was excellent. It actually mattered if your pitcher had command ;)
franco74
with the pitching meter- all ea has to do is make the pitcher throw a ball if he misses the target -
A_Dub
Yea HH did have it down. It was different everytime.
Kccitystar
No, they should make the pitching even more sensitive with the meter. Depending on where you land in the green.
Jabroni
No, they should make the pitching even more sensitive with the meter. Depending on where you land in the green. Agreed. I like the pitching meter and hate the idea of 2 separate buttons for strikes and balls.
jackcasper49
high heats system was nice, but I really think the pitching meter has serious merit if tweaked enough ... with the new not quite perfect zone and a change to see the datafile we might be able to adjust the miss zone seriously enough to make a small miss into a bigger miss and to make a mistake pitch a real mistake ... spitoon
The problem, as I see it, is that even if you miss by a significant margin, it generally just misses in the zone and you get that dot that lights up...I suppose if they could make all misses go for balls, that might work, but even that's not realistic, guys do make mistakes in the zone...add to that the fact that, given enough practice, you won't miss the 'perfect' zone on the meter very often... In HH I rarely used the 'ball' button unless I was up 0-2...I found that using the 'strike' button, and aiming for the corners resulted in enough balls as it was...there were times when the count would go 3-0 and you'd choose to throw a strike right down the middle, and it would still go for a ball...frustrating I suppose, but it resulted in a fairly accurate number of walks, and propper pitch counts, something MVP has been sorely lacking IMO. Thinking out loud here: I wonder what it would be like if the speed of the pitch meter was somewhat random each time, that way you couldn't really 'practice' the timing so much and it would much more difficult to hit the spot everytime..... :?:

So if you speed up the pitch meter, you'd have to speed up the animation.

So if you speed up the pitch meter, you'd have to speed up the animation. You're right, I wonder what it would look like if it was 'uncoupled' from the pitchers animation...I mean it could all happen during the wind-up and delivery, just not exactly with the animation...anyways, it's 'pie in the sky' because I don't see EA changing that system any time soon, they're pretty happy with it...and besides, they might not be in the baseball sim buisiness much longer... What's the interface like in the 2K series by Take Two???Anyone know???
