He could of got them off P2P networking sites like morpheus.com WHICH IS PERFECTLY LEGAL.

Yeah, but the songs were available as a mod on mvpmods. That means he was hosting the mp3's w/out the bands or the RIAA getting any kickback.

Maybe the person who posted the songs had them legally, but he didn't have permission to distribute the songs.

By the way morpheus isn't a legal paysite, only sites like itunes, the new napster, musicmatch, etc. are legal.

The music from P2P sites for the most part are not legal, only indy bands or a few select songs from certain artists who have given them permission to host it.

How can they be not be legal if P2P sites are!

On December 19, 2003, the Dutch Supreme Court confirmed that peer-to-peer technology and its distribution is legal.

On April 25, 2003, Judge Stephen J. Wilson of the United States District Court for the Central District of California ruled in favor of Streamcast Networks, Inc. and Grokster, Limited, distributors of peer-to-peer software , in a summary judgment concluding that such peer-to-peer software and its distribution is legal.

Peer-to-Peer software is not illegal, and some files you can get from Peer-to-Peer is LEGAL, but 99.9% of MP3 grabed from Peer-to-Peer are ILLEGAL

did you pay the copyright owners of the music for the music?

Exactly what kraw said.

The P2P software is legal and in many cases a very valuable part of networking in offices and such.

However, just because the P2P software is legal, doesn't make the songs or software you download legal.

If you want legal mp3's you can either rip them yourself from a cd you bought, or buy them from a pay site.

The sites are, per se, legal... the problem resides with the content available in them, which is, the majority of time, illegal.
