When I first started playing MVP, I ran into the same issues you did. Unfortunately, I don't think you can slide or move the batter in the batter's box using a keyboard. My solution would be to pick up a Logitech Dual Action controller. It's worked really well for me, and I find playing the game more fun with the controller than a keyboard.

I used to know the way to move the batter in the box. i cant get used to controllers. I'm a keyboard guy!

Solution:

Slide - right shift + up, down, or left

Move Batter - backslash + direction

I did this download many moons ago. Maybe want to give this a go.
