redeck
ok mvp05 audio modding here. editing and repacking .hdr and .dat files here. the work is done and teh files are repacked and ready to be merged back into the .big files.........but uhohhh one of my files is named incorrectly. instead of 2345c it was named 2435c. i know thats not going to give me the desired effect. my question is, can i simply rename the files, or do i need the start all over from the .wav file with correct name? anyone follow that? anyone know the answer, whether or not you could follow it
Jim825
It all depends upon whether the file name is embedded in the file itself. If it is not, then you can probably just rename it. Did you have to hex edit the file and embed the name or is there an index file that references the incorrect file name?
Homer
you can rename the hdr file, but will need to hex edit it to make it work. one thing that you should check is your current install. if there is a player audio already installed in the 2435c slot, you only need to install the dat file. redeck
thanks guys, this is helpful. yes Jim, the .hdr fil has been embeded in the .big filie, but i still have a copy of teh .hdr file and was hoping simply to rename it and embed it with proper name. sounds like I need to redo the hex edit for this file and embed again. thanks again. emath2432
Wait, it's been a minute since I did this, but I think if you hex edited it with the correct info, it should not matter what you named it. You should just be able to go back and rename it, and then install it again.
Homer
it has to be hex edited to the specific name. if he hex edited as 2345c, he needs to hex edit it again if he changes it to 2435c. but again, if the hdr file is in the game already, you don't need to do anything except add the dat file. remember that the hdr file is nothing more than a placeholder, which tells the game that to play an audio assigned to that slot. the actual audio is in the dat file. Yeah, that's what I was saying. If he hex edited it with the correct info already, he should be good to go, and just have to change the file name to what it was supposed to be. but again, if the hdr file is in the game already, you don't need to do anything except add the dat file. remember that the hdr file is nothing more than a placeholder, which tells the game that to play an audio assigned to that slot. the actual audio is in the dat file. Pretty sure he already knows that. We already had a lot of these discussions via PM.

redeck
wait this is good. If there is already a .hdr file in the pnamehdr.big with the #### i need, all i need to do is change the name of the ####.dat file and insert it into the pnamedat.big, and it should work. From what your all saying...... thats cool, cause guess what, found another one LOL Thanks again guys
DylanBradbury
thanks guys, its all helpfull information, and half the reason I threw the thread out there is for other peoples future reference. the other half of course, is cause i didnt know the answer lol This is the reason why I prefer to answers folk's questions about my utilities in the forum rather than in PMs/e-mails. When answering through e-mail and private messages, it helps one person. When answering in the forum, it helps anyone who has the same issues and bothers to search. Ten-thousand [10 000] cool points to you, Redeck! :)
Homer
that's exactly the reason we posted here. these posts add to our information database. redeck and myself have been exchanging pm's for awhile regarding this stuff, but we just recently talked about how we need to post out here so everyone can see.
