Minigames Crashing

After downloading 2010 rosters, my batting minigame crashes as soon as the camera pans from the batter to the pitcher. Works fine as soon as I switch back to original rosters. This is with Willy's roster update.

Any thoughts?

More often than not; when I've seen this happen is typically when there is a cyber-face issue within the roster. If the creator of the roster did not properly link a particular player to a correct cyber-face; it will usually cause the mini-game (and any of that player's appearances) to crash. What I would do is to note which player you are selecting when the mini-game begins (and crashes) and check their cyber-face in MVPEdit. If worse comes to worse; you can enter one of the "stock" cyber-faces for that player and see if that fixes it. Good luck with that and let me know if that works out for you.

I believe it has to do with a certain player on the original roster who can not be messed with. I can't remember which player it was, but if he was removed from the roster, I remember hearing the mini games would crash.

I am sure a search would give you the answer for sure.

It's any player....of course I've only tried two teams and maybe 4 players. But, Chase Utley was in the orginal as well as Ryan Howard. I can try the MVPedit suggestion. I'm new to this though, so I may end up screwing something up. I'll error on the side of caution and think there could be something else wrong.

Thanks for answering

This is from the "MVP 2005 for Dummies" thread. Posted by Homer:

c. mini game (HR derby, batting, pitching) = your roster is missing shane reynolds (actually his id #0f844e070). the original game uses him for these games, so if he's missing from your roster, someone else needs to have his player id#

Wow, that's pretty strange that 4 or more players are causing this. I last saw this problem with Charlie Hough in TC 1988 and a couple of players in TC 1974 and they were all cyber-face issues. I think you're right, and this might be something different if it's any player. The only thing I can think of is that it's a major issue with those particular rosters; especially when you said the default rosters work fine. Perhaps you can shoot a message to the guy who made the rosters and ask him if he has heard of/experienced similar issues. Good luck to you, I know it's frustrating when that happens.

OK, good news/bad news.

I was able to edit attrib.dat and insert Shane Reynolds. That worked. I was using updated rosters. Now, if I were to save rosters with some trades I make and load my roster, game crashes again. Does each roster have a new attrib.dat file I have to edit? Hope the question is not confusing.

Seems as though as long as you are editing the roster with the updated attrib.dat file, you should be okay. Just so long as none of your changes affect the player ID that is Shane Reynolds.

I could be wrong though. Hopefully someone else can answer better.

if i'm following the question correctly, yes you must edit that file each time since it gets overwritten. once you edit the attrib.dat, try importing the dat files into mvpedit for your rosters and see if it permanently keeps the id in there. from what i remember, i don't believe that works. the only way i know for sure to avoid this is to use the stock roster with him in the game. instead of deleting him, edit his profile information to another pitcher you want in the game. this way, the id# is preserved, thus there's always a pitcher assigned to the mini games.
