Cris987
Can someone explain the difference between speed and baserunning ability or their relationship? For example, what happens when a guy has a speed of 99 but a baserunning ability of 25?
The H
He's fast runner but is lousy stealing bases (has a crappy jump, can't read the pitchers motion well, etc).
Cris987
He's fast runner but is lousy stealing bases (has a crappy jump, can't read the pitchers motion well, etc). That sounds like Juan Pierre to me

KerryW
Actually, Pierre had about 50 SB's last season, but close to 30 times caught stealing.. 8O 8O 8O
Cris987
dude pierre is in the top 5 list when it comes to stealing. Very true. He rules from "stealing" to "caught stealing" :)
paulw
Here's a guy a remember for a perfect example - Alex Sanchez when he played here in Milwaukee. Speed about 90 Baserunning Ability - probably 20 or less. This guy could fly but made more outs on base than you could even imagine.
jg2977
Baserunning ability probably also refers to bad baserunning decisions - for example, trying to go from 1st to 3rd with nobody out on a single to right field, and the right fielder has a rocket for an arm. Another example could be trying to score on a sacrifice fly on a shallow pop to the outfield. Yet another example could be not attempting to take the extra base when it's not too risky. All of these examples could be the effect of a runner with poor baserunning ability.
paulw
Alex Sanchez was the WORST baserunner I've ever seen. He'd do all of these except the last one.
Butty03
I would have to agree with paulw on this one, because Alex Sanchez was always getting caught stealing when he was with The Brewers. At least, when we had Scott Podsednik these past two years he did not always get caught stealing bases. Has anyone here ever played Backyard Baseball 2005 for The PC because my friend Josh really likes it for Gamecube? Sincerely, Jason Collins :D
