The Yankees got on the board in the 5th inning with a RBI single but Granderson, but a 3-RBI triple by Cameron made it 3-1. Texeira homered in the 6th to make it 3-2. Lackey went 6.2 innings, gave up 7 hits and 2 runs and struck out 6. Pettite went 6.2 innings as well, gave up 9 hits, 3 runs and struck out 6. In the bottom of the 8th, a RBI double by Teixeira tied the game. With the game on the line, Crawford delivered the big blow: a 3-run HR off Rafael Soriano. The Yankees scored first with a RBI single by Teixeira and then made it 2-0 as Swisher hit into a fielder's choice. In the 3rd inning A-Rod homered to make it 3-0. The Red Sox got on the board in the 5th thanks to a solo homer by Carl Crawford. Beckett went 5.1 innings, gave up 5 hits and 3 runs. Hernandez went 7 innings, gave up 10 hits, 1 run and struck out 5. In the 7th Jeter hit an RBI single, making it 4-1 for the Yanks: he's 8 hits shy of 3000 now. The Bad news is that the Rangers scored 7 runs in the first 2 innings to win game 1 of this 3 game series. Beltre hit a 2-run home run in the 1st, Young hit a RBI single and Kinsler followed with a RBI double. In the second inning, things didn't change: Hamilton and Cruz went back-to-back to make it 7-0 for the Rangers. Hernandez went just 1.1 inning, gave up 8 hits and 6 runs. Banueios made his MLB debut, and gave up 3 runs (1 earned) in 5 innings. The Rangers score 2 runs in the 4th to make it 9-0. Cano put the Yanks on the board with a 2-run HR in the 4th. No runs were scored until the bottom of the 5th, when Swisher homered off CJ Wilson. In the 6th A-Rod hit a RBI single and Swisher followed with another RBI. Garcia went 8 innings, gave up 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 9. The Rangers broke the shutout in the 9th thanks to a 2-run HR by Napoli off Mariano Rivera. Rivera still got the save as he managed to keep the lead.
