Gantners Kid
Can somebody help me, when I go into the display options, and try to up the player detail, it doesn't allow me to. It is set to a default of Low and doesn't even have the option of changing it. Last year I ran medium no problem and could run high if I ran lower screen resolutions. LetsGoOakland
Do a search, someone asked this and another person said to go into video card properties and if the button was not selectable, you had to go and download the latest driver. Sorry, no link. SF
APR
Yeah, i have the same problem. Downloading the drivers doesnt help. I talked to a guy from EA. He said it was the MX chipset that is messed up.

Gantners Kid
OK, if I come to the conclusion that my video card (GeForce MX440) is the problems, which I am as of yet not convinced of, what card should I go with. My store here in town has a Chaintech GeForce FX 5200 128MB for about $60. That's about the max I'd want to spend. Would that be a good direction to go? If not, what do you all suggest. Moser316
If you want to spend a bit more, go on eBay, where if you do some legwork, you can find better video cards for just a bit more. I just bought a brand new GeForce 6600 for $140 (I've seen it retail for $100 more), it came highly recommended in a similar thread...
bweight
Don't be too quick to dismiss this problem as an MX problem. My Radeon 7500 (*sigh* yes, it's a low-end card but still works for everything else) has the same problem, and in another thread there's a guy with a Radeon 9200 having the same issues.. I've got the latest Omega Drivers (based off the 5.11 Catalyst) and it's still not showing up.
spitoon
I think what they are saying is that those video cards are not supported by the game, so it disables some detail settings... If you are buying a new card to play MVP, don't buy a high end one, it seems they lead to choppiness problems...a 5200 would probably play MVP nicely... RAM
i think this may be a universal problem, per box specs= gf2 or greater, ati 7500 or greater. besides if in fact this game was designed for lower end machines which theoretically still doesn't make sense, there shouldn't be any of these problems. i am seeing this on my machine as well, as are others w/ nice homemade rigs. my detail was changable until i installed any mods. then it set to low as default and is unchangeable. never had this problem last year, and i don't see any drastic differences between '04 and '05, graphically other than a few minor things. KerryW
I'm trying to decide between 2 lower-quality cards myself....which one would you guys suggest: ? -GeForce 4 TI 4200 -GeForce FX 5200
big d723
i had the same problem as you guys with the player detail stuck on low. I had been thinking about upgrading my vid card I had a low end geforce4 440 64mb. I had no problems running player detail on high last year and resolution on 1024. I could live with it last year. But not this year, man I got sick of my players looking like crack heads. So there was no excuse better than now to go and by that ATI 9800 pro ive had my eye on for a while. As i was at frys i thought why not pick up a 20 inch monitor too. LOL. And 1,200 bucks later im at home ans in heaven. Boy ill tell you, what a major change in gameplay. All i can say is WOW. The only stutter or chopiness is on throws from 3rd to first, thats it. I got all settings on max. If you got the spare cash and in need of a high end vid card. Go buy one. NOW. lol
Lucas718
I have the FX 5200 Ultra (128 MB) and it plays the game just fine with player detail on high.
spitoon
I'm trying to decide between 2 lower-quality cards myself....which one would you guys suggest: ? -GeForce 4 TI 4200 -GeForce FX 5200 Either should be fine...the Ti4200, although it's older, actually beats the FX5200 in most tests. http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/index.html That link shows performance comparisons on a number of cards... The FX5200 supports some newer features that the Ti4200 doesn't..DX9.0 vs. DX 8.0 I use a Ti4200, overclocked to Ti4600 specs, and I've been very happy with it..playing COD, Far Cry, Madden '05, NHL '05, MVP '04 & '05, Medal of Honor etc.. Obviously not at max settings, but nice enough..
JohnnyBlaze
KKKerry, Go with the Ti4200. It doesn't support DX9 like spitoon said but it does have a higher core and memory speed then the FX5200. My stepbrother has the FX5200 and it sucks major balls. I have a Ti4400 OCed to Ti4600 speeds and can run most games maxed out with good framerates.
jpup
guys with the player detail problem. how did you install the game? typical or advanced? that could be the problem.
whitewolf
Changing the game dir should have nothing to do with it. I always installed it advanced, btw. And also.. it's definitely graphics card related. Only people with GeForce 4s have run into this (almost).
RAM
i used typical install though i can't see that making this happen. the problem isn't isolated to gf2's either, i see people w/ ati's 7500-9600 having the same problem. myself i run the 9600xt. as i mentioned i could change all detail settings until i installed a mod, then i was forced into low detail. i guess i can live with it, but i'm still working on it. RAM
yeah it appears to be just my luck, i need to see what's up here. i haven't had much time to keep my pc optimized like i did last season. school has got me jumping through hoops. i did a fresh install w/out any mods, and cleaned out any temp files. still stuck at low. i guess i'll do some tweaking, or test this card and toss it if it's on the blink, or just live with it for now. HBR_Rocket
I had a G4/420MX, notice I said "I had", the low setting were killing me so I decided to go out and buy a new graphics card. I got a FX5700ve/256mb card for $150.00, and when I went into the game, it now had set everything on high. The game is way,way differant now, the players look almost real. The biggest differance between low, and high are their faces. In the low setting, those faces look like something or someone had just crawled out of the grave. On high they really do look somewhat to their live counterpart. I was waiting on the .ini file, but to be honest I really do not think one is even there to fix. Just someone made a guester to change your setting in that file. It's the MX card that is making your graphics "low". I can run many games fine with a MX card but progress dictates change. The G4MX cards were built off the high end G2 cards. But what is missing in the MX cards is a DX9 support. Without that, you will keep getting low graphic setting games. DX9 games now are coming out, and that will leave the MX card behind. I really think you all need to look at moving up in the graphics department, rather than waiting on some .ini file that does not exist. If you are planning on buying more games , that means more DX(, and moving on up to DX10 games. Might as well bit the bullet as they say....I had too, and upgrade to a better graphics card.
