Guest
File Name: 1971 Washington Senators Home Uniform Set File Submitter: BRobby05 File Submitted: 22 Jun 2013 File Category: Uniforms and Accessories Version: 1971 Senators Home Set 1b Here is the 1971 Washington Senators Home uniform set. 1971 was the last year for the Washington Senators. During the 1971-72 off-season, the team moved to Arlington, Texas, and became the Texas Rangers. Big Frank Howard was the last Senator to be in the All-Star Game. Curt Gowdy made the comment, while calling the game, "This is a guy that eats 6 or 8 eggs for breakfast, a couple of steaks...and that's just to start." Gowdy also mentioned that he asked Ted Williams who hit the longest homerun that he saw, and Ted said Frank Howard. Howard bounced out to Beckert when he pinch-hit for Jim Palmer about the middle of the game. Other fellas that played on the 71 team that would become pretty good ballplayers were Jeff Burroughs and a young Toby Harrah. The former Cy Young winner Denny McLain, and Don Mincher, Paul Lindblad, Horatio Pina, and Tim Cullen would play on 1 or more A's teams from 1972-74 who would win World Championships. Of course, the Senators still wore the flannel uniforms with their own particular number font with touches of both block and Wilson Varsity. The uniforms would be recycled for the Rangers' spring training during the Spring of 1972. They would remove "Senators" and place "Rangers" on top. The number font would be also recycled...the home numbers would be used throughout the 70's but the road ones would be replaced in 1975. As always, I got my uniform info from Bill Henderson's program "Game Worn MLB Jersey Guide". I also want to thank all those who laid the groundwork for this site. Until I discovered this site, I thought MVP 2005 was boring because you couldn't edit the teams. I'm REALLY enjoying this!!!
