APR
I was playing online, vs. this kid named TheGriff06 ok. So were playing and he is swinging at everything, seriously. So I throw 3 pitches in a row out of the strike zone and he swings at every one of 'em. He gets on and chat calls me some unmentionables on this board because I threw pitches outside and he swung at em. So I end up beating him 3-0. Not a beat down in any respect, but he is going on an on about my mom and stuff like that. So I leave without saying a word. Then, when back to the lobby screen I warn everyone about playing this kid. He swears and tries to be condescending. So he said I threw 8 balls in a row out of the strike zone, which is a lie, I only threw 3. So this other guy comes out of nowhere and says throwing out of the strike zone is cheating. Do you guys agree that throwing the ball out of the strike zone would be cheating???

carter
Throwing a ball out of the strike zone is not cheating, however if you do it regularly or continuously it's cheap. MLB pitchers don't throw continously out of the zone and therefore you should mimick that when playing the game. You can get away with throwing a lot balls in the game because more often than not your opponent will swing and therefore you'll get a strike. It's not really the best way to win. As an aside, please don't bring specific issues like this (where you name names) to this site - it can only result in fights.

Plus he was even acting and saying stuff before he was losing.

RonBurgundy
Yeah, repeatedly out of the zone can be a bit much, but if the opponent has no plate discipline and can't lay-off, too bad.
carter
Well if a pitcher continuously throws balls, it's great because you'll walk more, but it can get boring. It definitely ruins the fun of the game when players do that.

I have the same opinion to that also. Every time I would go for a strikeout I would throw it out of the zone because he would swing at it. But I would get ahead of him by pounding the strike zone. And I play on PC.

That's what he did late in the game, he knew I was going outside and laid off of them. So, to fix that i used a mix of pitches and speeds.
Chickybomag14
I cant stand when all someone does is throw out of the zone. Non stop balls. After a while it gets to me and all i wanna do is play. Great players that mix in and out of the zone really know how to pitch. I play on live and my tag is Scarface027 for any of you that Live. He shouldn't have been complaining, he got schooled, that's it.

I mix up my pitches, speeds, and locations as much as I can to throw him off. So he then tries to tell me that I know nothing about the game. The whole game I don't think he threw a pitch that wasn't a knucklecurve or fastball, and he tells me that I know nothing.

carter
Remember, we are only hearing one side of the story. What Apr4488 is saying about mixing up pitches and speeds is fine, but I am sure his opponent had some reason to go off the way he did. Throwing balls consistently is a bushleague play. Baseball is a gentleman's game and should be played as such. Play with respect. You have only a split second to decide if you want to swing or not, so if you see a pitch that may be close, you're going to swing and if it's a ball you have little chance of hitting it. If three balls are thrown in a row only to exploit the fact that a player swings continuously, that's cheap in my mind. It's just like taking a lead and then throwing crap so the player can't catch up. Total bushleague garbage. Also, please do not judge the other party or call him names. That is just wrong. He went off because I threw 3 pitches in a row out of the zone. However, that doesn't mean that they were all intentionally thrown to be out of the zone. For instance, on one of the pitches I threw a slider low and away and out of the zone. My pitcher's (Curt Schilling) slider stayed in the zone and then broke out. That is why I threw it, because it stays on the plate and then breaks off. It looks like a strike, but it turned out to be a ball. Do you understand my POV now. I am not lying and would never lie about this sort of thing. After I struck the kid out on a pitch out of the zone, he came onto Chat and started going off me me saying that I was a type of flower, and a little cat ok??? So don't get mad at me for playing the game how it should be played. By miking up pitches, speeds, and locations. That is called pitching, and yes, I do throw pitches out of the zone, everyone does. Especially this year, if you aim for the corner's, some of you're balls may drift outside of the zone. So don't blame me for what he did, I was just playing the game. mrg1
There is NOTHING wrong with throwing out of the strike zone If someone throws me 4 bad pitches, I take the walk. THATS realism... batters in real life dont swing at everything, but it seems that most people I play in this game do. Take advantage of other peoples stupidity/impatience

MLB pitchers don't throw out of the zone continously because most MLB hitters have enough discipline to lay off balls. When I've played online, opponents have tried this concept, unfortunately when I consistently laid of the pitches and walked they realized there strategy would fail (more often than not).........
