AI03
RE: The Mets' second positions. I think Cairo should either be UTIL or INF (Probably a INF as a 2nd position). He has played both 1st and 3rd this year (He was the 1B this saturday vs. Cardinals). Also: should Victor Diaz have a second position of 2B? I know he has only played OF in the majors, but was his natural position 2B, and then only started playing OF last year? Should both Matsui and Reyes have second positions of 2b/ss? They did play those respective positions last year. Thanks! Great idea!

wolfy6finger
Ok I'm bored so I'm going to do something... Every player that should have a second position will be listed with their positions. This is coming from the Depth Charts on MLB.com. If there is something wrong on this list just say it, don't get upset. I took them straight off the Depth Charts listed on MLB.com unless I knew something was different. Everyone not listed on this list should only have one position, I made a note on some guys who were once thought to be utility players that have now settled into one position on here. I think this does a pretty good job of cutting down on the utility players who only play the infield or something like that. Like I said, if there's something wrong, just post the correction and if it seems sufficient I'll edit this post to reflect that. I'm sure you know your teams better than I do, I'm just going by the depth charts. One guy I'm looking forward to hear from is Millennium about David Newhan. And for the person that talked about Reyes and Matsui I had them as my exception, because they played the position as recent as 2004. I would of kept the position as SS/2B for Reyes and vice versa for Matsui. Another example would be Jose Cruz Jr. I would of left his 2nd pos as RF (due to fact he played their last year and only moved to CF to accomodate the arrival of Shawn Green)

HypnoxXx
llcmac doesn't know it yet, but when I release v2.3 (I'm not sure when, perhaps tomorrow or wednesday), I'm going to pretty much take a break. Since llcmac's correct secondary position/kill fake UTIL's operation is underway (which I fully agree, way too many freaking UTIL's) I'm going to hand them back over to him to finish this operation. I also think we should work towards eliminating the Bent stance as well, as I really only think Rickey Henderson looks any good with it.

I would possibly change ginter to make 3b his second position because hes not real likely to get any time at short, hell oakland isnt even real comfortable with mark ellis at short and he is pretty good defensively. Frank catalonotto could be a great great utility player if toronto would use him like he is meant to be used like texas used him. He could have a second position of utility if llc and hypp think he should. Eduarado perez I think should have 1b as his second position as that is where he is best defensively and gets some time there. Nick green and jorge cantu are almost the same defensive player but if either of them should have if as there second position it should be cantu as he is more likely to play short. Alex gonzalez should have second as short I dont know why any team would play him at third he doesnt hit enough. Casey blake is kind of debatable he could play third, hell he should be starting at third over boone and put jody gerut in right but boones contract says otherwise. Peralta if he isnt playing short he will on the bench or at third, he actually projects as a thirdbasemen because of his body type. Many in the front office actually beleive he will follow the same path as thome, short to third to first. Scary isnt it jim thome playing short. Newhan millenium will back me up on this he is the ideal utility player all except for his arm. He can hit and is fast and hustles can play anywhere except short. Marrero secon position should be 1b he has actaully been starting at first a few games a week. Mcewing second should be utility yes hes terrible at every position but hes a util. The tigers are tough infante and inge are guys who were utility last year but now are full time at one position so im not sure what you do with them. Punto as previously stated is a utility guy who has played everywhere and has been getting loads of time a second. Willie harris see punto except for the starting gig. Mike lamb he was playing lf early this year and terribly i might add but he looks good with 3b and 1b. Jason Repko can play all three of spots and is good defensively at all three. Kent I would say should have 1b as his second, before perez and valentin went down and saenz got hot there was the liklihood that kent would slide over to first with perez playing second against lefties. Feliz the guy can and has played every except 2b and cf.so whatever his main position is he should be a util. Damion easley needs to atleast have a second position of IF and possibly util. Heres his games played from 2004-05, 18 at first, 40 at second, 19 at short, 7 at third, and 5 in right feild. Chase utley should only be 2b and 1b. Mackowiak should be 3b and util or if you wanted to keep him being util make him cf/IF. Wiggington should be 1b as his second position hes been playing there against lefties since wilson went down. Felipe lopez should be ss/ IF he has been starting at second over jimenez lately and is also an option at third. But as I said before a very good list youve made. Hey man...no offense, don't get too bent out of shape...I did my research, couldn't track down the guy (meaning Wylie) and didn't see the other guys you mentioned on my current 2.2 rosters...maybe they were cut out accidentally or something, but I'm sure I don't have them listed. And yeah, I know about the Cubbies and the minor league affilliates to a certain extent (more about Iowa and Boise than any of the others, that's probably why I didn't catch the Wylie bit, etc.). I live here in Boise so I have a solid knowledge about their team for the upcoming season (they held a brunch and meet-and-greet last week). Anyways, since you're the one who did the rosters for the Cubs, I commend you on the hard work. But just because I ask a question (which you may feel is juvenile in its execution), doesn't mean you have to take it personally. If you'd like, I'll keep track of the Hawks and their movement this summer, just so you can have somebody (worth the time) looking out for your Cubs rosters. Peace. Dontrelle Willis should be listed as Athletic big legs, not stocky big legs. Juan Rivera of Texas is at least 235 pounds. (no matter how the MLB site lists him.) Also, he is not slim, he is plump.
