Here's a link to Baseball America's Minor League Transactions webpage announcing Zoccolillo's release from the Texas Rangers.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/trans.../trans0502.html

BA's website is an excellent source for minor league transactions, as it includes transactions at all organizational levels.

I've kept track of all minor leaguer movement during the offseason and would be happy to report on players that need to be moved from the current 3.5 version of the roster (e.g. Alex Palaez is no longer with the Salt Lake Stingers, he was acquired by the Reds during the offseason). I can do this by PM or by post, just let me know.

I'm going to have to ask everyone to bear with me for the next few days as llcmac has been swamped at school and so now I have these 4 days worth of changes to catch up on...

I'm going through abacus' large import list right now, so hopefully I'll have those changes finished shortly. I know for a fact from your first list, abacus, that I do not have Dean Palmer in my 2004 file. So if anyone has a Dean Palmer they can export for me, let me know.

to mjd888, you'd be a life saver if you could come up with a nicely detailed list of player movement for me. I do my best to move players where they should, but I can't keep track of everyone, and Alex Palaez was on one of the organizations I've had nothing to do with creating for the most part.

I'll do my best to get an update up by this weekend, but I can't guarentee anything.

To the few who have donated already, THANK YOU. We really appreciate your genorosity.

HypnoxXx,

If you want a list of all player movement since the off-season began, that will take some time to put together, and I don't know how useful some of it will be (there's a lot of movement of Low-A ball players from one organization to another for whom a pinch hit at bat at AA might be the pinnacle of their career). Also, such a list would not be complete, it would just contain the information that I was able to find in digging around for player movement news. If you still feel like you need it, let me know and I will try to put something together.

In the meanwhile, here is a list of players on your 3.5 Roster who need to be moved and reassigned to new teams or free agency:

ARIZONA

The Diamondbacks released Robby Hammock after he got injured in Spring Training. He is a Free Agent (although Rotoworld reports that Arizona is interested in re-signing him).

DETROIT

The Tigers released Alex Sanchez. This occurred after you released your 3.5 roster. He is a Free Agent, though probably not for too long.

HOUSTON

The Astros released Pete Munro today. He also is a Free Agent.

BUFFALO

David Lee is pitching for the New York Mets this Spring.

COLUMBUS

Shane Spencer is playing in Japan this year.

DURHAM

Tampa just released Mark Guthrie. Again, this occurred after you released your 3.5 roster. He is a Free Agent.

NASHVILLE

Todd Ritchie retired from baseball.

LAS VEGAS

Todd Hundley is a Free Agent.

NORFOLK

Danny Garcia was released today. He is a Free Agent.

Joey Hamilton was released this week. He is a Free Agent.

OKLAHOMA

Robert Machado was released. He is a Free Agent.

OTTOWA

Omar Daal is a Free Agent.

PAWTUCKET

Edwin Almonte is a Free Agent.

Reynaldo Garcia is a Free Agent.

Bobby M. Jones is a Free Agent.

Jason Shiell is a Free Agent.

Brad Thomas is playing in Japan this year.

PORTLAND (AAA)

Mike Bynum is with the Detroit Tiger organization.

Brian Sweeney is with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization.

RICHMOND

Luis Lopez is playing in Japan this year.

SALT LAKE

Alex Palaez is with the Cincinnati Reds organiztion.

Jake Thrower is with the Cleveland Indians organization.

SCRANTON/WILKES BARRE

Dave Coggin is with the Colorado Rockies organization.

Eric Junge is with the New York Mets organization.

TOLEDO

Al Levine is with the San Francisco Giants organization.

TUCSON

Donovan Osborne was released by the Diamondbacks. He is a Free Agent. According to Rotoworld, the D-backs may re-sign him around the start of the season if he is still available and if there is room for him at AAA.

ARKANSAS

Steve Andrade is with the Toronto Blue Jays Organization.

FRISCO

Jason Bourgeois was designated for assignment today. It is expected that some team will claim him. Until then, I guess he is in limbo.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA

Quan Cosby has given up baseball to return kicks for the University of Texas.

The Angels have not signed their 2004 1st round draft pick, Jered Weaver and have publicly stated that they are finished trying to sign him.

FREE AGENTS

Jeff Zimmerman signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers after the league-imposed deadline for teams to re-sign their 2004 free agents. Thus, Zimmerman will not be able to pitch until May 1, 2005.

I'm sorry that I am not able to provide sources and/or links for these moves, but when I was making my notes I did not write down the specific source(s) from which I got the information. Nevertheless, if you want to cross-check my work, you can go to the following websites, which is where I got most of my information:

MLB.com -- official team press releases and spring training stats.

BaseballAmerica.com -- Minor League Transactions and News Archives.

Rotoworld.com

There are some other players on team rosters that I strongly suspect are now free agents, but I do not want to list them until I find source information to confirm this.

Also, there are several minor leaguers signed to teams and who will play this year -- and might even make it to the Show -- (e.g., Tyler Houston of the Columbus Clippers, Gene Kingsale of the Ottowa Lynx, etc. ) not on your roster that are available on D.M.Z.'s Roster Template 1.2. These players can be imported into your roster. If you like, I can make a list of these players and the organizations to which they are assigned. I don't think that D.M.Z. will mind (not that I know him), because he stated in the Read Me file that accompanied the roster that he created the template for people "interested in developing their own DAT roster file" and he said that people should "feel free to edit anything on the roster, update it as much as desired and upload it to various websites." All he asked is that if anyone uses his roster, that they "make reference that this is the template used to begin the project. " The roster that I have been putting together for my own personal use is a combination of your 3.5 Roster and D.M.Z.'s 1.2 Roster Template and it's awesome. I think that you should check with him about importing some of players in his Roster into yours.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can do anything else.

Robb Quinlan of the Angels who is a lock to make the roster

Yes, Hardball Dollars is my site. I realize that I am off on the active roster and players like Quinlan. As the teams make decisions, I'll update the site to reflect the active rosters. For salary cap purposes, the Rob Quinlan's of the world don't make much difference.

hey Hypnoxx, Dean Palmer is in the original 04 files, because starting with the first patch Palmer was removed.

I'm sure that's why I don't have him, I just don't remember what all I did to update my rosters for last year's game. Everything is coming along slowly but surely, I just wasn't expecting to be so backlogged with stuff once I got back home. I'm sure I'll be back on top of things by tomorrow night and I'm going to look into DMZ's template.

Also, if anyone has some stats, scouting reports and pictures on Justin Huber, Dustin Nippert and Phil Stockman, I'd appreciate it.

mjd--I didn't mean ALL transactions btw, just the ones necessary to update the rosters I've got. If it has anything to do with players we'd have to create, I'm not concerned about it. Just making sure the players on our rosters are on the right teams.

Hyp-

couldn't find anything better online, so i'm just giving stuff out of BA Prospect.

"Huber has more offensive potential than most catchers. He should hit for a high average with 20-homer power, he also draws plenty of walks. He has average arm strength. Huber has a better bat than fellow trade acquisition John Buck, but his defense lags behind Buck's and may push Huber to first base or left field." p.228

here's his specs:

http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/288908

as for where he'll end up:

Huber, switching over from catcher, will be Omaha's primary first baseman.

The Royals have

George Brett in camp teaching Justin Huber how to play first base. ...

Dustin Nippert (NY)-

specs and stats:

http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/479986

scouting:

Date: Jan 12, 2005

Nippert might be the steal of the 2002 draft as the Diamondbacks grabbed him in the 15th round out of West Virginia. An imposing presence on the mound at 6'7" he uses that height to maximum effect especially when working with his power curve, a pitch with so much movement one scout referred to it as 'unhittable.' Had a benign tumor removed from his armpit in June of 2003, and missed the rest of the season because of it, but came back to dominate the Arizona Fall League that year, skyrocketing his stock with the organization. Nippert was moved up to the Diamondbacks 40 man roster in mid November to protect him from the Rule V draft. He has been working on a changeup to combat left handed hitters and if it becomes a plus pitch could very well become a front of the rotation starter for the Diamondbacks as early as '06.

Phil Stockman (AZ)-

specs and stats:

http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/448970

scouting:

03/17/2004

Third round pick Phil Stockman had a very good year in AA, striking out 146 batters in 148 IP, which ranked third in the Texas League. He throws his fastball at 89-94 MPH, though it's touched 97 MPH at times. He will change the arm angle and throw it with sinking action at 91-92 MPH. He also throws a solid breaking ball and changeup, and both could be plus pitches with time. As he adds more strength to his 6'6" frame, he could increase his velocity even further. He still needs to refine his command and consistency, but his biggest problem is that he's had a problem with blisters over the last three years. If he can't get past that, he may have to move to the bullpen. He'll move up to the AAA rotation this year.

Are you gys planning on updating till the season starts and then releasing a final version of this or what? I have to say that I am very impressed with all the hard work and attention to detail you all have shown in this attempt. Good job and thanks for the efforts.

Manager Tendencies...Interesting idea...Something we may look at later on, but right now we just want as accurate of rosters as possibles.

Next Update? I'm hoping by the weekend. Not making any guarentees, though.

Thanks again bby, can always count on ya.

mjd--going back to the DMZ file, yes, if you had some sort of list on who he's got in his rosters that we don't, I'd love to see it so I could make the necessary imports.

And here's who I have left to find from abacus' import list...If you find the whereabouts, let me know...

Carl Sadler

Mike Crudale

Gabe Molina

Allen Levrault

Jeremy Hill

Jason Roach

Roger Deago

Steve Woodard

Shane Loux

Chad Meyers

Still waiting to see if someone can export Dean Palmer for me, too...

awesome i think the manager profile tendencies is great on mvpedit and it will make the roster more realistic.

once roster is all updated, that will be cool to make game more realistic. you can even rate the manager and do intensity level for home and against other teams all thanks to mvpedit. :)

as of now, i think manager profile is based on the designer of mvp 2005.

keep up the great work. you guys are great.

just curious how do you come up with ratings on new players that you create because there missing?

do you keep the same ratings that already in the game?

thanks again

Since 99% of the CAPs we make are prospects, its a crapshoot on accurate ratings. I explained a few pages ago my outline for creating CAPs throughout an organization (Example: a top AA prospect should have ratings that are as good as an average or below average AAA prospect.)

All we can basically do is look at their scouting report to see where they excel and where there are holes in their game and rate them accordingly.
