abacusand13south
since I have no more players to look for to import ive been looking at some ratings and do you guys plan on giving Garret Atkins more contact and power? there is no way he's the worst hitter on the rockies. Hes more like the 2nd or 3rd best hitter depending on how preston wilson plays or gets traded.
jbmagicfan
thanks if you put players at AAA for injuries that 3 months and more, won't the cpu teams still promote them up to the majors?
llcmac
hmmm, that's odd using zips and my formulas, he should have 86 contact and 66 power. I'll have to make my formulas take coors into account.
GamerPyle
More Power??? with 1 career Major League homerun how much power do you plan on giving the guy? At Bats: 23 | Flyball: 30.4% | Groundball: 56.5% |
smart88
how can you base your stats on 23 at-bats?
abacusand13south
Gomer, If you look at the situation closer you will notice that garret is a great hitter and is continually improving and with such a small major league sample size you cannot say anything about how good of a hitter he is. By the way your stats are off, he has never had only 23 at bats. and Im probably not expaling myself very well but obviously you havent seen what the guy can do. With your only 1 career homerun remark, does that mean that iguchi should have no power at all since he hasnt hit a homer yet? also are you saying he shouldnt have the rating llmac says he should? im talking about in 3.5 he only has 40 something power and contact against lefties and righties that is my argument. AF3141
His career totals are 2 2B's, 8 RBIs, and 1 HR in 97 ABs, a huge average of .217 for his career. Your right, this guy is huge.

True, but if you go look at his minor league stats, specifically AAA stats, he has been pretty good (minors usually translate into atleast a decent MLB career or in this case projection) For example, in '04 he hit .366 w/ 15 HRs, 94 RBIs in AAA

GForce22
ZIP PROJECTIONS Zips Projections go WAY beyond the 23 at bats. Minor league history, trends, etc. Basing anybody on what they've done in 23 ABs, or 100 even, is preposterous. GH

br0nc080
if i remember right when i was going through rosters atkins is worse than a bunch of the minor leaguers on the rockies, which baffled me (and by a bunch i mean like all of AAA atleast). i think barmes is rated slightly above atkins, but still very low for a guy thats going to start (still below a lot of AAA)
bbythepier
They're easy enough to find, but here's a link to the ZIPS. http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/szymborski/ llcmac- I am NOT disputing your formulas (or GForce's) which they're based on. Just a few questions for a veteran roster maker: 1) Would you consider using the relatively new PECOTA projections, or a combination of the two, if PECOTA proves to be worth its weight? 2) Your (and GForce's) formulas are absolutely fine for my use. While dabbling in my own formula's i have run across another "baseball nut" site named: baseballnotebook.com, where the guy translates minor league stats into major league stats. So say 1 HR in the Texas League = .57 HR in MLB, or 1 HR in Pacific Coast League = .50 HR in MLB. He does the same for pitching. I found it interesting how correct he was on say Francisco Rodriguez's AA & AAA stats translated into MLB. This way you develop one Formula based on Major League performance and then translate minor league stats into this formula. It's a digress, I know, but I'm always trying to learn from veterans. (I'm an engineer so I get the math, just not sure on the sources.)
