Looks like it's going to be Kottaras, which is an absolute joke. What the Padres are thinking is anyone's guess at this point. Giving up your best catching prospect for an old, washed up fat guy? The goal must be "get to the playoffs in 2006, lose in the first round, then suck for years" in San Diego.

SP Mark Mulder placed on the DL, likely done for the season and possibly altogether with the Cardinals. Will be replaced by Anthony Reyes in the rotation.

Then again, the whole rotation is gonna change when the rosters expand. I wish MVP allowed for the roster expansions. I mean, the minor league schedules are over at that point (in the game) - it's like they were planning on including a feature for roster expansions but then never did it.

EDIT: Also, any minute now CF Jim Edmonds will be placed on the DL as well, likely to be done for the season and probably his time with the Cards is over as well (see: Mulder). He'll be replaced in center by Juan Encarnacion, with Preston Wilson taking Juan's spot in right. LF will continue to be primarily Chris Duncan with cameos by Taguchi, Spezio, Rodriguez, et al.

Incidentally, with Bennett out and Molina ailing, they called up AAA C Mike Rose (click me: http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/ml...ayer_id=425852).

In another move for a former Boston pitcher, the Padres signed free agent reliever Rudy Seanez, released earlier in the season by the Red Sox. Seanez, 37, was one of the club's bullpen assets in 2005

it makes me laugh, some of these panic trades that has happened in the past. This is absolutely one that's dreadful for the Padres, but they improved their pitching, not necesarily securing a playoff spot, but it can help, David Wells is a good pitcher, but they should'nt have given up a young early twenties catcher, especially when he is their 2nd best prospect.. pitiful, but Red Sox fans must be pretty happy with this trade.

Wow, San Diego is stupid. Boston got a pretty good deal out of this. When Varitek is done, they have Kottaras to come up and catch. These panic trades are really starting to bug me, this one espcially. Wells won't help the Padres, he'll make them worse. Giving up their number two prospect for a washed up pitcher is rediculous. The NL West really is screwed.
