Any word on the value of the deal?

Here ya go

Marcus Giles will get a one-year contract and a 2008 option from the Padres.

Giles, whose physical was scheduled for this morning, will get a base salary around $3.25 million this season with incentives that could take his contract to $4.25 million. The club option for 2008 is at $4 million.

Giants sign Ryan Klesko to a one year deal worth an undisclosed amount of money - Per club policy, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

I like the comment Rotoworld made: Klesko turned 35 in June, so he now fits the Giants' minimum age requirement.

It is possible that he will platoon at first base with Rich Aurilia - Klesko vs. righties and Aurilia vs. lefties, however this is not confirmed.

Update on the Ryan Klesko contract: Klesko is guaranteed $1.75 million under the terms of the deal he signed with the Giants. He can earn up to another $2 million in bonuses based on plate appearances. Giants manager Bruce Bochy made it clear that Klesko would have to battle for playing time in spring training. "Right now, we said Rich [Aurilia] would get the bulk of playing time at first base," Bochy said, "but it's always going to stay competitive. We're going to do whatever it takes to play a ballgame. If Ryan should be in there and he's swinging the bat well, we've got to find a place for him."

Diamondbacks released infielder Andy Green.

Clearing the way for him to join the Nippon Ham Fighters. The D'Backs will receive about $275,000 from the Fighters for Green, who a month ago agreed to a deal that guarantees him $800,000 and includes an option for 2008.

Twins re-signed outfielder Rondell White to a one-year, $2.75 million contract with a vesting option for 2008.

Braves signed infielder Chris Woodward, who had been with the Mets, to a one-year contract.

Japanese lefty Kei Igawa has not yet been signed to a formalized contract, but at this point the Yankees and agent Arn Tellem are just ironing out details such as how the his $20M contract will be divided over the five years and various performance bonuses. It is likely that he will take his physical today and the signing will be announced later this week to the press.

Padres re-signed RHP Doug Brocail to a one-year, $500,000 contract.

Pirates signed catcher Einar Diaz to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

The 33-year-old Diaz will likely share time at Triple-A Indianapolis with Carlos Maldonado.

Marlins signed infielder Joe Dillon and RHP Rich Dorman to minor league contracts.

Dillon, 31, batted .167 in 27 games for the Marlins in 2005 before his rights were sold to the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese Central League. He turned out to be a flop in Japan, batting just .195 in 87 at-bats. Dillon hit .360/.459/.631 in 350 AB for Triple-A Albuquerque two years ago, so there is some ability here. He could end up as the platoon partner for Mike Jacobs at first base, though he'll probably open the year in Triple-A.

Actually, Woodward's signing with the Braves.

You're right, of course, I guess I mixed him up with someone else or something.

OF Jeff Conine, who was with the Phillies, was traded to the Reds for minor league 3B Bradley Key and OF Javon Moran

I'm just wondering about Mariano Rivera's defensive rankings, because as far as what I've seen and heard, he's a very good defender, and he is probably one of the most athletic Yankees currently - originally he was a SS and when he was in the minors, he was among the best hitters and best fielding outfielders on his minor league teams. I'm just wondering what your opinion on that is.

Devil Rays signed outfielder Jason Grabowski to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

The 30-year-old Grabowski, generally a terrific hitter in the minors, had no more luck in Japan than he did in the majors, batting .146/.296/.326 in 89 at-bats for Orix last season. He's at .196/.275/.339 in 301 at-bats as a major leaguer. The Rays likely will assign him to Triple-A Durham.

Devil Rays signed RHP Gary Glover to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Glover, who went 5-4 with a 5.57 ERA in 11 starts and four relief appearances for Milwaukee in 2005, spent last year in Japan and had a 4.97 ERA in 96 innings. He'll have a reasonable chance of making the Rays, probably as a middle reliever. Still, there's hardly any upside here.

Red Sox signed RHP Adam Bernero to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Bernero, 30, has a 5.91 ERA in 376 innings while spending parts of the last seven seasons in the majors. He'll almost certainly be a part of Triple-A Pawtucket's rotation to begin the year.

Phillies signed catcher Rod Barajas, who had been with the Rangers, to a one-year contract with a club option for 2008.

It's believed that he's guaranteed $2.5 million. Barajas will battle Carlos Ruiz to be the Phillies' starting catcher. Either way, it probably won't be more than an 60/40 split between the two. Given 300 at-bats, Barajas could be good for 10-12 homers and 40 RBI, making him a bit more than a $1 catcher.

Yankees signed LHP Andy Pettitte, who had been with the Astros, to a one-year, $16 million contract with a player option for 2008.

Rockies signed RHP Danny Graves to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

If he makes the team, Graves will receive a $600,000 contract and a chance to earn $400,000 in incentives.

Athletics invited C Kurt Suzuki, C John Baker, 1B Daric Barton, 2B Kevin Melillo, INF J.J. Furmaniak, OF Travis Buck, OF Vince Faison, LHP Erasmo Ramirez, LHP Dallas Braden, RHP Mike Mitchell, RHP Connor Robertson and RHP Kaz Tadano to spring training.

Suzuki is going to be ready for Triple-A next year, so it might be that either Baker or Jeremy Brown will be released in spring training.
