Important stuff in bold.

Tigers signed outfielder Timo Perez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Timo and Neifi on the same team? The really amazing thing is that neither would be the worst hitter on the roster, what with Ramon Santiago already locked into a spot. Timo, though, shouldn't have any chance of winning a job out of spring training.

Timo's a good little player, 4th OF type. Just don't have him on first, when you know, a ball is hit to deep left, in a corner. He doesn't run well then. *mutters to himself and stomps away*

Padres sign SP Shawn Estes to a minor league contract

David Newhan's contract with the Mets is worth $175K and if he makes the big league club he'll get $575K

Yankees close to re-signing 2B Miguel Cairo for one-year @ $750K

Rockies are close to signing C Javy Lopez to a one-year deal

With no room for the right-handed hitter on their bench, the Rockies are discussing Luis Gonzalez with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan.

Also, I don't know if this has been discussed, but the Cubs outfield situation will probably be:

LF Murton

CF Jones

RF Soriano

compared to another roster which has Pie in center.

Also, the Cubs will likely send Ronny Cedeno to AAA so he can start at SS.

Ryan Theriot's 2nd position should probably be changed to UTIL, as there has been some talk of trying him in the outfield.

So what would you like the Cubs 25-man roster to look like in the next release? Lineups? Rotation? Bullpen?

I don't even think Jim Hendry has any idea exactly what the Cubs outfield will look like. I'd work on other teams for now until there is some kind of trade or signing, or announcement by the club to tell what things will look like. But for now, I agree with cubsfaninfla

Just a Jays note as far as the rotation it would seem that according to a recent report that they've exhausted all trade avenues and the remaining free agents don't fit the bill or aren't interested. So they have failed to acquire a #3 starter and the rotation will be:

1. Halladay

2. Burnett

3. Chacin

4-5 Marcum/Janssen/McGowan/Towers fighting for them. Most likely Marcum wins a spot because of his solid half season in the rotation last year and Janssen or McGowan taking the 5th spot, and hopefully Towers getting released. I think Janssen actually gets the edge for the rotation at this point since he had success as a starter last season at the MLB level. But because McGowan has to be carried on the MLB roster they may have to give it to him and send Janssen to AAA to start the season.

I don't have a link for confirmation, but the plan for the Cubs outfield as of right now is:

LF Murton

CF Soriano

RF Jones

Jones has asked to be traded, so that will probably change. I guess he can't stand to play for a real manager and not the joke that was Dusty Baker. If/When Jones is traded, Soriano will move to RF. It looks like they will then give Pie the chance to win the CF job in Spring Training.

They are also one of the finalists to sign Cliff Floyd. If they do, LF will be a platoon between him and Murton.

As it is the lineup should be:

vs. RHP

CF Soriano

2B DeRosa

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

RF Jones

C Barrett

LF Murton

SS Izturis

vs. LHP

CF Soriano

2B DeRosa

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

C Barrett

LF Murton

RF Jones

SS Izturiz

Bench: Blanco, Ward, Theriot, Pagan

I'm not sure about the last spot. Right now I would say Cedeno.

Rotation:

SP Zambrano

SP Prior

SP Lilly

SP Marquis

SP Hill

LR Miller

MR Wuertz

MR Dempster

MR Cotts

SU Eyre

SU Howry

CL Wood

Obviously, I'm guessing a little on the pitching. I expect Wood to win the closer job over Dempster. Either way, the one who doesn't win it will most likely be in middle relief.

Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks will officially come to terms Sunday on a contract extension for 2008, says Newsday.

Newsday maintains that the deal was essentially agreed to before the trade was done Thursday. Johnson is expected to get a one-year extension worth about $10 million. He'll then take his physical Monday, leaving the trade with the Yankees to be announced on Tuesday.

Under the terms of his deal with the Brewers, Jeff Suppan a $1 million signing bonus and salaries of $6 million in 2007 and $8 million in 2008.

In an effort to improve his fielding, Jack Wilson has lost 12 pounds and, more important in his eyes, strengthened his ankles and calves.

What about Glendon Rusch? Isn't he supposed to be a LRP on the Cubs 25-man roster?

Rusch had a blood clot in his lung. He probably won't be ready for the start of the season. With Cotts there now, I don't think he'll make the 25-man roster anyway. He had a pretty bad season last year.

That last spot is pretty open. It could be Rusch (if healthy), Novoa, or Wuertz. I went with Wuertz because he pitched great last year. 2.66 ERA in 40 2/3 IP

The Rockies have reportedly sold Luis Gonzalez's contract to the Yomiuri Giants of Japan.

We'd still like to see some major league team claim him off waivers when the Rockies try to pass him through, but it probably won't happen. Instead, Rockies ownership will get some more money that won't be spent improving the quality of the product on the field.
