Philip Hughes does not throw a curve - he actually throws a knucklecurve. He said so on his site: http://z11.invisionfree.com/Philip_Hughes_...p?showtopic=758

Jays are close to signing 1B Lyle Overbay to a three-year extension. He's eligible for arbitration and the Jays want to lock him up to a deal before then.

Keep me posted on what happens

Worrell retires (Rotoworld)

Giants announced the retirement of RHP Tim Worrell.

It's good news for the Giants that they'll get out of paying him an additional $2 million after GM Brian Sabean burdened the organization with his two-year, $4 million contract last winter. Worrell had a 7.52 ERA in 20 1/3 innings before undergoing shoulder surgery last year. The 39-year-old was expected to be ready for spring training, but he's chosen to call it a career rather than continue his rehab. The Giants could redirect his money into a proposal for another reliever.

That was a bit unexpected if you ask me. Who do you want me to recall in his place tothe MLB roster (until they sign a new guy/if they do)?

Russ Ortiz (signed 1 @ 370K) should fill Worrell's now empty roster spot. Brian Wilson and Billy Sadler will probably get strong looks in ST now; but until then, I'd put Ortiz at LRP, Correia at MRP, and Munter in Worrell's SU hole.

Want me to change Correia's position to RP/SP?

Yeah, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea. The consensus seems to be that the Giants have given up on him as a starter - especially with Sanchez and Lincecum soon to move into the rotation.

Hennessey will surely get one more chance at the rotation as well - but he could very well go the way of Correia by the end of the season.

So putting Correia in MRP as an RP/SP with a stamina of around 50 sounds good?

Cardinals re-signed outfielder Rick Ankiel to a minor league contract.

Cardinals signed infielder-outfielder Jolbert Cabrera to a minor league contract.

Cardinals signed RHP Ryan Franklin, who had been with the Reds, to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Angels sent RHP Chris Bootcheck outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Nationals manager Manny Acta would like to see Cristian Guzman take over as his club's No. 2 hitter this year.

Nook Logan will enter spring training as the Nationals' everyday center fielder, manager Manny Acta confirmed on Wednesday.

Although the Brewers originally wanted him in left, Bill Hall is guessing that he'll end up playing center field this season.

While John Thomson's contract with the Jays is technically worth just $500,000, he'll earn $1.5 million if he's on the Opening Day roster.

Despite retiring Wednesday, Tim Worrell will get paid the $2 million he's still owed by the Giants for 2007.

Royals agreed to terms with LHP Jimmy Gobble on a one-year, $712,500 contract.

Totte, apparantly it was reported on KTLA news in LA that a deal to send Brad Penny to the Jays may be close. The rumored deal would involve Alex Rios and Dustin McGowan going to LA for Penny and Billingsley. Some prospects may also be involved.

The Jays are also apparantly close to acquiring OF prospect Elijah Dukes from Tampa Bay for Shaun Marcum plus a prospect (possibly Josh Sowers).
