It's good news for the Giants that they'll get out of paying him an additional $2 million after GM Brian Sabean burdened the organization with his two-year, $4 million contract last winter. Worrell had a 7.52 ERA in 20 1/3 innings before undergoing shoulder surgery last year. The 39-year-old was expected to be ready for spring training, but he's chosen to call it a career rather than continue his rehab. The Giants could redirect his money into a proposal for another reliever. That was a bit unexpected if you ask me. Brian Wilson and Billy Sadler will probably get strong looks in ST now; but until then, I'd put Ortiz at LRP, Correia at MRP, and Munter in Worrell's SU hole. The consensus seems to be that the Giants have given up on him as a starter - especially with Sanchez and Lincecum soon to move into the rotation. The rumored deal would involve Alex Rios and Dustin McGowan going to LA for Penny and Billingsley. Some prospects may also be involved. The Jays are also apparantly close to acquiring OF prospect Elijah Dukes from Tampa Bay for Shaun Marcum plus a prospect (possibly Josh Sowers).
