Totte
The Dodgers deal may also include Reed Johnson or Adam Lind as well. An update on the Dukes thing, it's apparantly a bogus rumor. You really think they'd give up both Rios and Lind? I thought they were shopping Rios for a starter cuz they felt that he was expendable since Lind is making such a strong push for the 25 man roster. cybernetic
That's what I assumed.. I'm just going by what I've heard. The Dodgers won't trade Penny without Rios being in the deal. I'm sure the Jays would rather trade Reed Johnson instead of either or them and have Rios and Lind as the starting corner outfielders. I don't like the deal myself, I think we're depleting our lineup too much to get starting pitchers. If we could just get one of the pitchers and lessen the package I'd be more for it. Keep in mind that Penny started the ASG last year and that Billingsley is a potential Ace. Giving up Rios wouldn't hurt the Jays that bad and adding Johnson to the deal would be ok. Trot Nixon is available through free agency and Pat Burrell could be had in a trade with the Phillies so it could be a good deal for the Jays. cybernetic
McGowan can be an ace too. He certainly has the stuff for it but never regained his command since his Tommy John surgery in '04. I'd think we'd need a right-handed hitting outfielder to replace the loss of Rios and Johnson

How about Burrell's bat then? He'd probably come pretty cheap considering his salary

TwentySeven
The Mets say that only Tom Glavine and Orlando Hernandez are guaranteed places in the rotation entering spring training. GM Omar Minaya indicated that John Maine and Oliver Perez have "a leg up" on the next two spots, but manager Willie Randolph wouldn't even go that far. Still, even if the Mets succeed in adding a starter, Maine seems like a lock with a decent spring. As things stand now, Mike Pelfrey is the top candidate for the fifth spot. Astros signed outfielder Richard Hidalgo to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. Cardinals agreed to terms with LHP Randy Flores on a two-year, $1.8 million contract. Cubs signed infielder Tomas Perez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. White Sox acquired RHP John Lujan from the Rangers for catcher Chris Stewart. Rangers designated infielder Drew Meyer for assignment. Orioles acquired RHP Jim Miller and RHP Jason Burch from the Rockies for RHP Rodrigo Lopez. Yankees invited C Todd Pratt, INF Andy Cannizaro, INF Angel Chavez, C Raul Chavez, RHP Tyler Clippard, C Ben Davis, INF Eric Duncan, OF Brett Gardner, RHP Phil Hughes, RHP Steven Jackson, LHP Ben Kozlowski, INF Ramiro Pena, RHP Ross Ohlendorf, C Peter Pilittere, C Omir Santos, OF Jose Tabata, INF Marcos Vechionacci, RHP Kevin Whelan, and RHP Steven White to spring training. Red Sox agreed to terms with RHP Kyle Snyder on a one-year, $535,000 contract. Mets agreed to terms with LHP Oliver Perez on a one-year, $2.325 million contract. rulegm
Yeah right. Orlando Hernandez is guaranteed to BREAKDOWN as he always does. Where was he last year when the Mets needed him? Oh thats right, on the friggin DL. And to top that off, he gets a 2 yr deal. PFFFFFF!

cubsfaninfla
This may be helpful The Royals believe Andres Blanco could be ready for Opening Day following shoulder surgery at the end of last season. It was originally thought that he'd miss the entire spring, preventing him from getting a chance to battle Angel Berroa for the starting job at shortstop. That still may be the case, but the team is more optimistic that it was before.
cubsfaninfla
Red Sox signed outfielder Alex Ochoa to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. Ochoa, 34, will give the majors another try after hitting .283/.350/.445 in four seasons in Japan. Interestingly, he was the player the Chunichi Dragons signed in 2003 after the Kevin Millar fiasco with the Red Sox. Ochoa is a .279/.344/.422 hitter in 2,107 at-bats as a major leaguer, but since he's clearly on the decline now, he's a fifth outfielder at best. The Red Sox shouldn't have need of him. That's certainly interesting but I'm sure they'll cut him after Spring Training. sfgiantsflgators
I'm very sorry, but I don't want to read 870 pages of text. Could somebody tell me what this thread is about? Thanks. The Ultimate Roster Project is a mod. It's a complete Single-A through MLB roster that features all-"real" players...meaning that there are none of the fake players you get in the default EA rosters. I respect all the other modders who do their own rosters (kgbaseball, SwinginSoriano), but this is my roster mod of choice.
