TB:

With the Rays considering using him as a utilityman, B.J. Upton is set to see work at second base, third base, shortstop and the outfield this spring.

"I would like to take the pressure off his defense somewhat. Everything has been about his defense," manager Joe Maddon said. "During the last couple of years, it's been all about being the shortstop of the future, and then you throw him over to third base and it's about becoming the third baseman of the future. You know what? Let's come be a major league baseball player, hit, and we'll figure out the best spot for you." If he does hit, the team will have to find a regular spot for him somewhere. He could post the best OBP of anyone on the roster.

Also, like I promised I would post when it was released, here's Rotoworld's Top 10 prospects for NL Central teams:

I think next is AL West...will post when released (think it's a Monday thing). :D

From the LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/angels/la-sp-angels12feb12,1,960306.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-mlb-angels):

--Mike Napoli lost 15 pounds and added muscle mass. This should make him Athletic, whereas I think he was Heavy last season.

--Joe Saunders gained 15 pounds. Not sure how this changes his body build.

--Jered Weaver will now wear number 36, aka Jeff Weaver's number with the Angels. This is a change from his current #56.

Every time I try and use the ur810plus with MVP07, it crashes right before I am about to start game play? What is my problem?

Is it crashing with all teams? All stadiums? Did you install any other stuff besides the 07 mod? Did you apply the patches by EA before you installed the mod?

ANA:

Mike Napoli, who is set to battle Jose Molina and Jeff Mathis for playing time, lost 15 pounds over the winter.

Napoli struggled mightily over the second half of last season, maybe in part due to fatigue. He's the favorite to enter 2007 as the Angels' primary catcher, but he has some work to do. If he gets 350-400 at-bats, he could be good for 20 homers. However, he's not going to start hitting for average.

FLA:

Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez labeled Alfredo Amezaga as a fallback option in center field.

Gonzalez would prefer to see someone else step up and claim the job, allowing Amezaga to fill a utility role. Other candidates for the job include Alex Sanchez, Reggie Abercrombie and Eric Reed, and the Marlins haven't given up on bringing in someone from outside the organization.

New Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez intends to go with the same top of the lineup that was successful last year, with Hanley Ramirez batting leadoff and being followed by Dan Uggla, Miguel Cabrera and Josh Wilingham.

Gonzalez currently sees Jeremy Hermida in the fifth spot, Mike Jacobs sixth and Miguel Olivo batting seventh. That would leave the winner of the center field job hitting eighth.

In a sharp blow to the Orioles' 2007 hopes, right-hander Kris Benson will miss the entire season due to a partially torn rotator cuff, FOXSports.com has learned.

Benson, 32, will require surgery to repair his injury, which surfaced after he began throwing in off-season workouts, according to a source with knowledge of his condition.

The Orioles, coming off nine straight losing seasons, expected Benson to help solidify a rotation that includes left-handers Erik Bedard and Adam Loewen and righties Daniel Cabrera and Jaret Wright.

To replace Benson, the Orioles could sign a free agent from a dwindling list that includes right-hander Steve Trachsel, left-hander Ron Villone and left-hander Mark Redman.

Wow. I'd like to thank the Orioles for John Maine. Thank you so very much :)

Villone to replace Benson? Isn't ha a reliever?

My bet is that they're gonna try running with Hayden Penn as the 5th guy and if it doesn't work out, sign some crappy guy or trade for some help.

CWS:

White Sox signed first baseman Eduardo Perez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Perez slumped after a trade to Seattle last year, but he still hit .275/.331/.503 in 153 at-bats against lefties, indicating he's still worthy of a platoon role. Unfortunately, the White Sox won't have one to offer him, not unless they like the idea of giving him considerable time in the outfield for the first time since 2003. He could get the bench spot vacated by Ross Gload and give Jim Thome the occasional day off against a tough southpaw.

Chances are that Guthrie and Penn will fight it out for the 5th starter spot and I see Burres and Olson in that mix as well.

Blue Jays re-signed RHP Pete Walker to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Tigers agreed to terms with OF Curtis Granderson, RHP Yorman Bazardo, RHP Roman Colon, RHP Kyle Sleeth and 3B Kody Kirkland on one-year contracts.

Two months removed from his last chemotherapy treatment, Jon Lester showed up at Red Sox camp on Monday at 212 pounds, just three pounds shy of his desired playing weight.

SI.com's Jon Heyman confirms that the Orioles are talking to free agent Steve Trachsel as they look for a replacement for Kris Benson.

Nationals agreed to terms with outfielder Nook Logan on a one-year contract.

COL signed RP Matt Herges to a minor league deal and invited him to Spring Training

The White Sox revealed that Alex Cintron underwent surgery in December to remove bone spurs in his right elbow.

Maybe he'll take it easy when it comes to throwing early on in spring training, but he should be ready to play when the exhibition schedule begins. Cintron is the alternative at shortstop should Juan Uribe's legal troubles prevent him from playing for a time.

Free-agent-to-be Carlos Zambrano said 2007 will be his last season with the Cubs if he doesn't get an extension this spring. "I'm ready to sign, and I would do my job anyway with the Cubs this year," Zambrano said. "Whatever happens, I don't want to know [anything] about a contract during the season. I want to sign with the Cubs before the season starts. If they don't sign me, sorry, but I must go. That's what Carlos Zambrano thinks." GM Jim Hendry already made a huge mistake by not getting a deal done at the beginning of the winter, but with so much money to blow that they could give Jason Marquis $21 million, there's no way the Cubs can let Zambrano go. Something should get done. It's just going to cost the team quite a bit more than it would have three months ago.

Jonathan Papelbon, who is making the move back to the rotation this year, has begun putting his curveball back into his arsenal.

"Last year it was fastball, slider, split(-fingered fastball) and I’m going to incorporate the curveball this year to give hitters another look," said Papelbon, who threw 35-40 pitches off the mound on Monday. "It will just be a matter of getting the feel and the touch back but right now, it feels pretty good." Papelbon is also working on a sinking fastball.

Joel Zumaya believes the way he grips the baseball when throwing -- not lengthy sessions of Guitar Hero -- caused the forearm problems that limited him at the end of last year.

"They had a tough time trying to find out what was wrong with my arm," Zumaya said, "and I told them I was playing this guitar game. I don't believe that's what it was, and to tell you the truth, I haven't stopped playing it." Zumaya is expected to remain in a setup role for the Tigers this year.

Steve Trachsel and the Orioles have agreed to terms on a one-year, $3.1 million contract with a $4.75 million option for 2008, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

Any thoughts on why'd they make this deal? Don't the Cubs need the pitching depth if Zambrano/Prior goes down again?
