PHI:

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he intends to keep Jimmy Rollins in the leadoff spot and follow him with Shane Victorino.

Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell are set to occupy the following three places, leaving Aaron Rowand and Wes Helms to contend for the sixth spot in the order. The catcher likely will bat eighth. Philadelphia Daily News writer Bill Conlin presented an interesting case for having Rollins bat fifth, but Manuel would hear none of it. At .277/.334/.478, Rollins did have the line of a No. 5 hitter last year. However, he probably wouldn't leg out as many doubles and triples with Howard on base ahead of him.

I'm thinking about re-working my readme and some other stuff around the actual download and I want you guys to tell me what UR is to you. Please keep it in one word or one sentence.

An example:

- UR is in-depth organisations loaded with tons of prospects that takes your dynasties one step further.

I appreciate and value your input on this :)

The Ultimate Rosters project is one of the longest running and most successful MVP 2005 mods. Roster changes and transactions are kept up-to-date, and are surprisingly accurate; Player ratings are very well made, and are adjusted very well. With UR, you don't get any less then the best.

Sean Burroughs reportedly suffered a separated shoulder last week after falling while fishing on a beach in San Diego.

An MRI reportedly revealed a sprained AC joint, which will sideline Burroughs for at least 7-10 days. At this point Burroughs has almost no chance of avoiding Triple-A to begin the season.

Manager Grady Little said Tuesday that Derek Lowe will be the Dodgers' Opening Day starter for the third straight season.

Chris Carpenter said Monday that he plans to put a changeup back into his repertoire this year.

Todd Walker said Monday that he's not worried about his playing time despite likely being in a reserve role behind Marcus Giles and Kevin Kouzmanoff.

The New York Times reports that Lastings Milledge has "packed on 13 pounds of muscle after lifting weights and giving up red meat."

If Joe Borowski struggles or gets hurt, manager Eric Wedge indicated Monday that Roberto Hernandez could be next in line for saves.

After throwing a bullpen session Monday, Kerry Wood (shoulder) said he plans to avoid throwing a curveball this season.

A.J. Pierzynski speculated Monday about how much playing time he'll lose to Toby Hall, who's expected to start ahead of him against some left-handed pitching.

Carl Crawford is wearing wrist sleeves to help combat any wrist pain he might incur while swinging the bat.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he intends to keep Jimmy Rollins in the leadoff spot and follow him with Shane Victorino.

Julian Tavarez said Monday that he'd rather start than pitch out of the bullpen.

Manager Phil Garner named Roy Oswalt the Astros' Opening Day starter.

That's no surprise, but Garner also laid out his Opening Day lineup: 2B Craig Biggio, CF Chris Burke, 1B Lance Berkman, LF Carlos Lee, 3B Morgan Ensberg, RF Luke Scott/Jason Lane/Richard Hidalgo, SS Adam Everett, C Brad Ausmus.

The Cubs and Carlos Zambrano have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract worth $12 million.

Ichiro Suzuki will start the season in CF and will bat leadoff. Raul Ibanez will play left field, Jose Guillen will field right, Jose Vidro will DH, Richie Sexson will play first, Jose Lopez mans second, Adrian Beltre takes third, Yuniesky Betancourt is SS, and Kenji Johjima will catch. In addition, Felix Hernandez enters the season as the #1 starter, followed by Jarrod Washburn, Miguel Batista, Jeff Weaver, and Horacio Ramirez. J.J. Putz is the closer and Chris Reitsma likely sets up.

FWIW, Baseball Prospectus released a top 100 list: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....f01fb5a378358c9

If you want some info about Jake McGee (in the D-Rays), this interview is good: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...res/263350.html

Highlights that might help the roster:

BA: I've seen your breaking ball called both a curveball and a slider. How would you describe it?

JM: At times, I throw it a little loopier and that's probably when you think it's a curveball. And then 0-2, 1-2, sometimes I throw it a lot harder; it looks more like a slider. So I'd say I throw a little of both but it's the same pitch pretty much.

BA: Are you going to lean toward primarily throwing one version of the pitch in the future?

JM: No, I'll probably still be using both. Like early in the count when I want to get ahead, I'll just throw the slower one over…just to get a strike in there.

--

BA: You've added about 40 pounds to your frame since high school, which has helped you add velocity to all of your pitches. What have you done to strengthen your core, and how has that weight effected your athleticism?

JM: Well, when I got drafted my shoulders were huge and I was really skinny. The past few years, I haven't been working a lot of upper body -- just a little bit -- and I've been doing a lot more legs than usual. So I've just been upping that every year…just doing a lot of legs and just light upper body. I don't want to get my shoulders all tight.

BA: Have you been able to maintain your athleticism with that added weight?

JM: Yeah, definitely. Doing a lot more squats, I think, helped a lot. Just getting my legs bigger helps a lot. Because my first year I felt like my legs were giving out and then the rest of my body would give out -- it would be harder to pitch. So, I've just pretty much just focused on (building leg strength).

BA: Your strikeouts per nine rate has improved every season (8.42 in 2004; 10.45, 2005; 11.49, 2006). How much of your progress last season do you attribute to your added velocity vs. your improved stuff?

JM: I think it's the added velocity and, to me, just getting more experience and just more innings in minor league baseball. I was a lot more comfortable last season because it is a long season and such.

BA: One of the pitches that the Devil Rays have been having you work on is your changeup. How do you feel about your progress with that pitch?

JM: I feel it's gotten a lot better…especially last year it got a lot better. And then this offseason I've been working on that the most. So it's really good this offseason.

together with:

From Totte's new readme: "Ultimate Rosters is the only roster set which alots UncleMo 15 cyberface slots that are used to maximize your gaming experience by giving your more generic faces. You get to keep your default generic faces plus you get 15 extra generic faces that contain better graphics and are updated often! Less deserving players such as Vinny Castilla, for example, are no longer alotted a face slot so as to better serve the community. The best part about UR's new feature is that no one will even notice since the "loss" of the 15 cyberfaces formerly allotted to less deserving players is minimum. With roughly 30 teams in the MLB, that is less than 1 cyberface per team that is missed. Even better, as a trial run you'll notice that the MVP 07 mod has gotten the end users ready for this change since the new generic cyberfaces were given face slots on top of the 15 that came with the MVP 07 mod. No other roster set has allotted for this to happen. Not anymore. You can only find it here with my rosters. Ultimate Rosters! You're going to love it!"

This is where I got my info from a couple weeks ago from scout.com:

Huber hasn’t taken to the outfield quite as quickly as the Royals had hoped, but he does move pretty well in left, and he’s more comfortable in the outfield than he was at first base. His arm is well-suited to the position, and while he’ll probably never be anything more than an average outfielder, he is athletic enough to make it work. At the plate, the Royals are concerned about Huber’s streakiness, and his swing is still a little unconventional. Huber worked hard with Omaha hitting coach Terry Bradshaw this season to improve his swing path, but he still has some work to do.

It was a bit surprising that Huber wasn’t added to the active roster in September, but the Royals were trying to get a better look at some of the other young outfielders on their roster, and they simply didn’t feel there were enough at bats for him. Huber will get a shot to make the team out of spring training, and depending on which outfielders are still with the club come spring, he could possibly platoon with Shane Costa in left field.

Just some random info...

The last few days have been extremely busy for my part and I've got tons of stuff that needs to be edited in the rosters. I'll probably try and clean my desk with that stuff tomorrow night or on Saturday.

I'm leaving for Dublin early Sunday morning to watch Dave Matthews on his solo acoustic European Tour and I'll be back very late Tuesday night. Questions regarding UR will be handled by MarkB during this time. Please keep posting as usual though as I'll try and catch up with all the stuff on Wednesday as I have the day off.

On another note I'd like to announce that I'm moving out of my folks house on April 1st into my very own apartment. The building I'm moving into is called the America House (not a joke!). Is it a coincidence that someone like me would get a condo in a building with that name? :)

Well I'm heading out for lunch. Take it easy people!

Enjoy yourself, and good luck! :)

Manager Lou Piniella implied Wednesday that Felix Pie has little chance of beginning the season with the Cubs.

A three-year starter at second base, Jose Castillo worked out at third base Wednesday.

Despite the offseason acquisition of Juan Pierre, manager Grady Little said Thursday that Rafael Furcal will remain the Dodgers' leadoff man.

In revealing his Opening Day lineup on Wednesday, Astros manager Phil Garner had Morgan Ensberg penciled in as his third baseman and No. 5 hitter.

In an effort to have a little more left in the tank come September and October, Billy Wagner is developing a splitter.

Wagner's splitter may be more of a changeup than a third strikeout pitch.

Do we have any idea on what his velocity might be on a pitch like that? 88 mph?
