Ultimate Roster Project (PC,Xbox,PS2)

Todd Linden (SF) is trying CF.

Linden drove in three runs with a pair of two-out singles, displaying the compact left-handed swing many thought he lacked. He also started in center field, a spot he's trying for the first time as a professional.

He's already got RF as his 2nd pos, I would just change it to OF instead.

Felix Hernandez (SEA) will make 420,000 this year.

Right-hander Felix Hernandez will get an $80,000 pay raise this season, going from $340,000 last season to $420,000 in 2007. He wanted more, but had his '06 contract renewed by the club Friday for a 23.5 percent salary boost.

Tomo Ohka will make 1.5 million this season

The Jays signed Ohka to a one-year, $1.5 million deal in the offseason. He went 4-5 with a 4.82 ERA in 2006, but he was limited to 18 starts due to a shoulder injury. So far, the ailment hasn't presented a problem this spring.

Matt Smith (PHI-AAA) uses a cutter

Smith's quirky delivery is tough because it comes from a slender 6-foot-4, 215-pound body, and his high-80s fastball tails away from lefties.

I'd say replace the 2-seamer with the cutter as it states that it tails AWAY from lefties. left diag or left extreme trajectory.

Mike Pelfrey (NYM-AAA) no longer uses his curveball

Pitching coach Rick Peterson told Pelfrey last summer that improvement in his secondary pitches was essential. He urged the right-handed 23-year-old to abandon the curveball that he'd used only occasionally at Wichita State, replace it with a slider and modify his changeup. The little pitching Pelfrey did from that point on -- through his abridged Arizona Fall League tour -- was done with those directives in mind.

The slider was to add deception to Pelfrey's repertoire -- it looks more like his fastball than the curve did. The changeup was to keep the hitters honest and off-balance and give Pelfrey another pitch that might produce ground-ball outs. Four of the six outs he achieved on Saturday came on ground balls, the other two on a 4-6-3 double play.

The curve was scrapped for his slider, so drop the curve.

Juan Padilla (NYM-AAA) uses a cutter instead of a curveball

Padilla is able to throw his three pitches -- fastball, cutter and changeup -- without feeling anything close to pain. In addition, he has learned to deal with the anxiety of wanting to pitch and wanting to demonstrate how strong and healthy he is.

Replace his curve with the cutter, right diag or right extreme trajectory, probabaly 87-89 velocity.

Jays changes:

RP Jason Frasor scrapped his curve all together and doesn't throw a split. His repertoire should be Fastball, slider, change. His change kinda drops in to righties/away from lefties.

SP A.J. Burnett now uses low socks not high.

Jeremy Accardo is not a lock to make the bullpen after a shaky end of the season. He could begin in AAA if someone beats him out for a spot. Shaun Marcum is the most likely candidate to do so if he doesn't make the team.

Royce Clayton now has a bald head and no longer has braids as his cyberface is.

Scott Downs' fastball should be bumped up to 87 or 88. It tops out at 89 but typically sits around 87-88.

Gustavo Chacin's fastball should not be 90.. it tops out around 90-91 but most of the time sits around 88-89.

Brandon League doesn't throw a curveball or a circle change anymore. He's strictly 4-seam, 2-seam and slider. I believe he threw a split a couple of times last year so that could be added.

Alex Rios and Troy Glaus both should have black gloves.

Get rid of Francisco Rosario's changeup.

Change Jason Smith to 2B/INF.. he's listed as a 2B on the Blue Jays official site.

Change Matt Stairs to LF/RF. He will see some time at 1B as well but not a lot.

Ty Taubenheim will most likely throw out of the bullpen in Syracuse and Geremi Gonzalez will work exclusively as a reliever this season and probably for the foreseeable future. I'd move Ismael Ramirez up to AAA to take his spot but I'm not sure who to send down. For now, just leave Taubenheim in the rotation. If Rosario doesn't make the team and is placed on waivers (and unclaimed) he could end up in the rotation spot.

Jeff Duncan may end up in AA and Vento in AAA in his spot but nothing is official on that. If that were the case, Vento would be the starting CF for Syracuse.

Ryan Houston may end up being the closer in Syracuse this season. He already has a save in Spring Training.

If Sergio Santos gets demoted to AA, expect to see Syracuse go with a 13 man pitching staff. Ismael Ramirez will be on the team as one of the starters (replacing the injured Victor Zambrano).

Not sure if this is old news or not, but I browsed this while drafting up one of my fantasy teams on Yahoo...

"Mar 4 -- Dan Haren was pleased with his cut fastball during his first spring appearance on Sunday, the Contra Costa Times reports. "It was probably my best pitch," he said. "I'm not ready to get overly excited yet, but ... I got a few swing-and-misses on it. A lot of it is trusting it, and it's hard to get that when it's crunch time in a game during the regular season. Hopefully, I can build some of that down here," Haren said of the new pitch. While it's hard to gauge how much a new pitch will add to a pitcher's value, particularly one as common as a cut fastball, it's nice to see Haren not content despite a really nice season last year.

Bill Hall (MIL) has moved to CF full time

If they all stay happy, the Brewers' 2007 outfield could be a formidable unit. Last year's club MVP and home run, RBI and runs leader Bill Hall moved to center field, and the team plans to leave him there for the foreseeable future. Young Corey Hart, who has played for years behind other, higher-profile Brewers prospects, figures to see most of the action in right field.

1st POS CF, change him in the lineups to CF as well.

Kevin Mench and Geoff Jenkins look to platoon in LF.

Outfielders Geoff Jenkins and Kevin Mench, both looking to rebound from subpar years, made it abundantly clear during the first days in camp that neither is interested in the idea of a platoon. Yet that is precisely what manager Ned Yost is leaning toward, using the left-handed-hitting Jenkins and the right-handed Mench in left field.

Start Jenkins vs. righties and Mench vs. lefties

Ryan Braun (MIL-AAA) looks to have a decent shot to win the job at 3rd base.

Don't blink or you might miss Braun's status as a Brewers prospect. Drafted just two years ago and without a single at-bat above the Double-A level, Braun is doing his part this spring to win Opening Day duties at third base.

The Brewers are jumbled there. Corey Koskie remains sidelined with post-concussion syndrome, and more than seven months after he jarred his head, he still can't do much more than walk on a treadmill. Plan B is a platoon of veterans Craig Counsell and Tony Graffanino, but that would leave the team a bit short of depth on an infield that has had injury issues in recent years.

So the team is giving Braun a good, long look. No one doubts he can hit, but Braun will have to show the team that he can play defense at third base.

"It's pretty apparent," Braun said. "I've worked hard and I feel like I've definitely made some strides."

Those defensive strides fall into bench coach Dale Sveum's department. Braun played shortstop until his junior year at the University of Miami before switching to third, a move Sveum made during his Brewers playing career. Braun has also been tutored by Alex Rodriguez, who has ties to the U and made perhaps the highest-profile move from short to third in baseball history.

As Sveum describes it, Braun's problem is that he still has shortstop moves at third base.

"He has really good hands, he just has to understand the game a little bit more," Sveum said. "His throwing is probably the biggest problem right now. He has a great arm, he just has to understand that. He's not a 'major overhaul' guy by any means."

Added Yost: "He's a project, but he's not a huge project defensively. He's got baseball instincts. He's got smooth hands. He's got good quickness. He's got good range. We just need to slow him down a little bit. When he gets in trouble, it's because everything speeds up. He throws the ball too quick. He doesn't get his feet set. Once he learns the rhythm of the game a little bit and gains confidence, he's going to be fine."

Braun could definetly use a boost in ratings in a few spots. He was 26 of 30 in stolen bases last year. He could maybe use a slight boost in speed (from 75 to the 77-79 area) as well as a boost in aggressiveness to at least 10 or 11 (up from 3) and baserunning to 10 or 11 (up from 7). He also needs a boost in the hitting department, as he is at 43 con, 39 pow vs Lefties, and 47 con, 37 pow vs. righties. He hit .303 with a .589 slg pct and 15 HR in only 231 Ab's in AA last year. Over 550 ab's that's 29-30 HR's. He hit .348 with a .775 slg pct and 10 HR's in 89 AB vs. lefties and .275 with a .472 slg pct and 5 Hr's in 142 AB's vs. Righties. I would suggest 55-61 for contact and 62-66 power vs. lefties and 49-54 for contact and 57-61 for power vs. righties. I don't know what that does to his HR rating, but if it affects it his lefty rating should be higher than his right. Up his range into the 10-12 range, and raise his throwing strength into the same range. Also, he hasn't played outfield at all, but did play some short in college and his first year in the minors, so if anything his 2nd Pos should be SS not OF.

I really have to start coming to the boards more often to catch up on things.

I'm sure it's been asked Totte, and I'm sorry if I'm repeating the same question over and over again.

Any idea when the latest, most up to date rosters will be released for PS2?

Thanks for all the work you are doing, and if you can let me know then please do so. Thanks again.

OF John-Ford Griffin started in RF today for the Jays.. change him to LF/RF now.

INF Jason Smith just made a defensive switch to LF in the 6th inning of today's S.T. game (after starting at 3B). So he can probably be changed so his 2nd position is UTIL.

Kevin Barker should also be listed as 1B/RF.

C Erik Kratz came in defensively at 1B as well. So I'd change him to C/1B.

That was mentioned a couple of pages back and has been taken care of. Thanks for the insight though my friend. It's nice to see you back around the boards every now and then :)

The things is that kraw is the only one I know of that can convert the rosters into a ps2 format and since he's out of town working for x months, there won't be any updates until he's back (given he still feels like converting the rosters when he gets home).

all i do is click on the game i want to watch/listen too, add then it'll ask me for my log in info.

there is a sign-in link at the very top of the page though. about halfway between the center of the page and the right side.

I'm pretty sure the patch won't fix it. There's a possibility of a second patch that would just deal with cyberface issues. We'll make sure Gomez is fixed, assuming he was supposed to have a cyberface.

game's now over, so those edits are complete. it was a real nail-biter: Sox 13, Cubs 2. :)

Yeah I can see that :). Looks like it was a close game that didn't have the Sox come out on top until late in the game

hey Totte, did BigShmooz every get back to you about Brad Halsey's face being used for Rich Hill in the next release?

****, I forgot to ask him but I'm sure it's not a problem. I mean I'm using Jonathan Papelbon's face for Josh Papelbon and Justin Germano's face for Greg Dobbs so I think it's all good bro :)

Interesting bit of speculation from the Angels camp:

Apparently minor leaguer Marcus Gwyn might get the call for the big club if Jered Weaver is not ready to start in the opening rotation--http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070304&content_id=1827635&vkey=spt2007news&fext=.jsp&c_id=ana

Unfortunately I know little to nothing about Gwyn. I do know, though, that he's not currently on the UR.

I had Gwyn in a previous version of UR but he was removed because I needed the space. I've added him back in for 8.2 already though so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll just up his ratings a bit...
