Some Jays notes from Spring Training so far:

Casey Janssen has added a splitter to his repertoire and it has been very effective as a strikeout pitch in two outings so far. His repertoire should be: 4-seamer, 2-seamer/sinker, cutter, slider, splitter. His curve is pretty much his 6th pitch now and is more of a show pitch for something different. He does also have a change but he'll mainly only throw it to lefties.

Josh Towers has a sinker now. Make his rep: 4-seam, 2-seam/sinker, cutter, slider/slurve and splitter.

Manager John Gibbons wants Adam Lind on the team which is why he's playing a lot in S.T. so far. However, with Johnson/Wells/Rios entrenched in the outfield there's no room for him and the team would rather have him start in AAA then be on the bench up here. Unless a move is made or one of the afformentioned outfielders is injured, he'll likely head for AAA. The Phillies GM (Pat Gillick) has been seen at a couple of games and they are interested in Rios. Although, J.P. Ricciardi says he won't give him up unless the Phillies give them a big offer involving either Cole Hamels or Brett Myers which is not likely. Ricciardi really likes Johnson and wants to keep him, although he is the most expendable of the starting OF.

Is there any way you can make it to where relievers don't get sent down when the CPU Optimizes your opponents rosters?

Don't think so but it'd be sweet cuz that's one of the biggest problems with the game. Having the CPU optimize your rosters always result in an organisation meltdown :)

Maybe give relievers some meaningless good attribute (fielding or something) that ups their ratings?

It's just such a PITA going into dynasties and having all starters in the pen like 5 games into the year.

They'll just make the whole bullpen starters except the closer after a while, there's nothing you can do about it. It's just the stupid game engine.

White Sox agreed to terms with RHP Javier Vazquez on a three-year, $34.5 million contract extension through 2010.

Sweet. Good to see them keeping him in Chicago :)

Did Mark Redman sign anywhere yet? Any rumors about teams interested in signing him?

He's still a free agent. I know when Benson got hurt Baltimore took a look at him and Steve Trachsel, but signed Trachsel instead.

Jays notes:

C John Schneider came in as a emergency replacement for starting CF Ryan Patterson in today's game after Patterson was hit by a pitch on the hand. Nobody was left on the bench except Schneider and he was forced to play in RF for the final inning. Don't change his positions as this was just an emergency move.

P Gustavo Chacin sped up his delivery a bit in yesterday's game and was very successful, throwing 3 innings of one hit ball in the eventual 6-3 loss.

Greg Miller (LAD-AA) - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5935

2nd pitch is a slider, not a curve, probably in the 85-88 range.

Miller has been one of the talks of Dodgers camp this year, showing an above-average fastball/slider combination, as well as a decent changeup. Because he had so much success so early, it's easy to forget that Miller is still just 22 years old, and the Dodgers seem likely to move him back into the rotation this year at Triple-A Las Vegas. Another arm where it's too early to give up on him.

Ryan Braun (MIL) - Looking more and more as if he will be the full-time starter at 3rd base.

Going into the season, there were whispers of Milwaukee fans possibly getting an early preview of their future at third base. Corey Koskie continued to struggle following a late-2006 concussion, and Ryan Braun was coming on strong. Less than one week into the exhibition season, those whispers are becoming full-throated screams. With Koskie still unable to take place in any baseball related drills, Braun is taking advantage of the opportunity by going 6-for-10 with three home runs in his first two games, although some minor elbow soreness has benched him since. Provided his defense at the hot corner is even borderline acceptable, Braun is looking more and more like the Opening Day option at the hot corner, and it's likely he won't be giving the job back anytime soon.

Sean Thompson (SD) - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5888

Also has a changeup

Thompson's listed height of 5'11" is generous, and radar guns are less so, as Thompson has rarely even touched 90 mph in his five-year pro career. So why are we talking about him? Because the Padres need some lefties in the bullpen, and Thompson looks like he'll get a shot. Despite said concerns, he might be able to handle the job. Thompson knows how to pitch backwards--both his curveball and changeup are plus offerings, and more importantly for the Padres, he knows how to get lefthanders out and keep the ball on the ground. As part of the rotation at Double-A Mobile last year, Thompson limited lefty batters to a .231 batting average with a groundball-to-flyball ratio of more than two-to-one. Situational lefties are usually a pretty anonymous group, and Thompson has never pitched out of the bullpen, but compared to minor league life, the big leagues offer nicer hotels, nicer transportation, better per diems, and the pay isn't so bad either, I hear.

You suggesting a new pitching motion or do you wanna wait and see how things develop?
