Thanks so much for all of your contributions guys.

Sorry I haven't been around the boards at all the past few days. We have this huge tourism expo this week and I've been out partying all night with different airline and cruise companies. Spent last night with KLM and Air France on a special Trinidad & Tobago night with free Miller beer, a caribbean buffet and great live acts from T&T. Sometimes you just get the feeling you're in the right business :D

Hey Totte, with Matsuzaka's in-game delivery, his curveball and slider are practically the same. i was wondering perhaps he should be getting a 4-seam with some lateral movement. a 74 mph screwball (his changeup). i've been watching the clips on mlb.com and it seems that he's got a very nasty changeup and a 4 seamer with very good late movement. any thoughts people?

MarkB once explained the pitches relation to the laws of physics. A 4-seamer with sink isn't good combo so to speak...

Okay I suppose I'll post the outlook on the Braves for this year:

SP-Smoltz

SP-Hudson

SP-Hampton

SP-James

SP-Davies

LRP-Redman

LRP-Cormier

MRP-McBride

MRP-Boyer

SU-Soriano

SU-Gonzalez

CP-Wickman

Batting Order/Lineup:

2B-Johnson

SS-Renteria

3B-C. Jones

CF-A. Jones

C-McCann(who BTW just got a new contract)

RF-Francoeur

1B-Thorman

LF-Langerhans

P/DH

Bench:

1B-Wilson

C-Pena

2B-Orr

LF-Diaz(DH)

3B-Aybar

Redman will probably be in Hampton's spot until he returns in early-mid May, but I would just go ahead and leave him in the rotation.

Wilson and Diaz will get playing time at 1B and LF respectively, but they haven't had a tremendous spring (.239 and .209 BA's) and the Braves are cautious about Wilson's arthritis.

I would up Davies' stamina to around 81-83. He's had a great spring and looks to be back on track after last year's injury.

Wilson's second position is OF. Diaz's is OF.

Aybar will likely start the season on the DL. So Chris Woodward will probably be in his spot on the bench on opening day. Aybar will be on the team, however, once he returns.

It is really a toss up between Boyer and Paronto. I'm just going to say Boyer at this point because he's had a slightly better spring and talk says he will probably make it. They both could end up making it if Aybar goes on the DL and they decide to call up a pitcher instead of Woodward or another utility man.

Think he'll be making any appearances at the big stage this year?

unless there are a lot of injuries and/or implosions, i doubt it. there's a log jam at the starting pitcher spot and lincecum should get the call up before he does.

i'm interested to see how he does this season though - he hasn't been the same since his surgery and a return to a familiar system might help him out.

Indians: Cleveland.com (Plain Dealer Newspaper) reports that Hector Luna has been sent down to Triple A Buffalo...Mike Rouse (out of options) and Luis Rivas will battle it out for the reserve infielder position.

Jays notes:

RP Brandon League is still not ready to pitch in major league camp. His fastball is consistently topping out at 91-92 which is a huge drop from his usual 96-100 mph. He is working with the pitching coaches to correct the problem but it's likely due to his shoulder injury.

SP A.J. Burnett threw in a AAA game today and threw 5 2/3 scoreless inning. He allowed just 3 singles, didn't walk anyone and struck out 7 batters.

SP/RP Victor Zambrano started today for Toronto against the Yankees. He pitched 4 innings allowing 2 runs in a no decision. He allowed 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3 in that span. He got a no decision in the contest. His spring ERA is now 1.98.

SP Casey Janssen threw 4 innings in relief of Zambrano allowing a pair of runs also on a 2-run home run by Alex Rodriguez. He left with a no decision in a 4-4 tie through 8 innings.

RP Jordan De Jong pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his first appearance of the spring in MLB camp. He allowed just a single. He split last season between between AA and AAA and will likely begin the year in the AAA bullpen.

OF Reed Johnson was 2-for-4 leading off the game. He's now batting .382.

OF Vernon Wells also had a strong day at the plate going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and RBI's. He's now at .359 for the spring.

DH Frank Thomas went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI also in the contest.

SP Jason Scobie pitched a scoreless frame in the 10th inning. He allowed no hits, no walks and didn't strike anyone out. He split last season between AA and AAA after being signed as a minor league free agent last season. He'll probably begin the season in either the AA rotation or bullpen.

EDIT: RPs Blaine Neal and Brian Wolfe were reassigned to minor league camp, taking them out of the running for the bullpen on the MLB roster. Neal will likely be in AAA or AA while Wolfe will be in AA or A to start the season.

I bet they're gonna go with Rivas as he's been solid so far this spring. Rousa could probably be sent down to AAA without being claimed

if Rivas can play SS then he'll stick...Wedge rarely uses his bench, but they need protection for Peralta (who needs to be pushed...too many mental lapses last year). But Peralta had eye surgery during this offseason and is seeing the ball come off the bat much better defensively this spring.

San Diego Padres outlook...

SP1 - J. Peavy

SP2 - C. Young

SP3 - C. Hensley

SP4 - G. Maddux

SP5 - D. Wells

(to the best of my knowledge, the rotation is a lock, though Hensley and Maddux might flip-flop)

LRP - M. Thompson

LRP - T. Stauffer

MRP - D. Brocail

MRP - S. Strickland

SU - S. Linebrink

SU - C. Meredith

CP - T. Hoffman

Batting Order/Lineup:

2B - M. Giles

RF - B. Giles

CF - M. Cameron

1B - A. Gonzalez

3B - K. Kouzmanoff

SS - K. Greene

LF - T. Sledge/J. Cruz Jr.

C - J. Bard

Bench:

C - R. Bowen

3B/1B - R. Branyan

3B/SS - G. Blum

LF - P. McAnulty

Bud Black has already announced that Mike Cameron and Adrian Gonzalez will regularly be flipping back and forth in the 3/4 spots.

I would up Terrmel Sledge's range and defense a tad. He looks finally recovered from a hamstring injury that plagued him all of last year, and has been solid in the field. That said, the Padres are going to have a left field platoon this year, with Jose Cruz Jr. starting against lefties and Sledge against righties.

Kevin Kouzmanoff's defense at 3rd has looked good. His range isn't great, but he's shown a steady glove and nice touch on his throws across the diamond.

David Wells' stuff has looked terrible this Spring. I would drop his stuff a notch: I'm expecting a so-so season from Boomer.

Greg Maddux, on the other hand, looks like Greg Maddux. 15 wins, coming right up.

Chris Young is the best pitcher the Padres have. His stuff looks even better than last year. Peavy's looking better, too, and is still "the Ace" of the rotation, but I think Young should have better stats.

Rule V draftee Kevin Cameron has a wicked-looking cutter, and the Padres really want to find a spot for him. But Scott Strickland is guaranteed $100k no matter what, so I'm not sure if they'll bump him to make room for the youngster. It's doubtful that K. Cameron would clear waivers, so look for his name on a new team soon.

AAA catcher Luke Carlin is an outstanding defensive catcher, and might bump Rob Bowen from the backup catcher's spot. Bowen's defense has been shoddy all Spring. Padres are also giving long looks to AAA catcher Pete LaForest, who has hit well.

Here's an updated status on Jays outlook for opening day roster:

Rotation

1 - R. Halladay

2 - A. Burnett

3 - G. Chacin

4 - T. Ohka

5 - V. Zambrano (possibly S. Marcum)

J. Thomson is likely to be released or start the season on the D.L. Marcum and Zambrano could flip and be in the bullpen or rotation respectively

Bullpen:

LR - F. Rosario

MR - S. Marcum

MR - J. Accardo

MR - S. Downs

SU - J. Frasor

SU - B. League (if ready for opening day)

CP - B. Ryan

Brian Tallet has had a terrible spring and could likely begin the year in AAA. If League starts the year in the DL, it's quite possible that Casey Janssen will break camp in the bullpen.

Lineup:

vs. RH

LF - R. Johnson

1B - L. Overbay

CF - V. Wells

DH - F. Thomas

3B - T. Glaus

RF - A. Rios

C - G. Zaun

2B - A. Hill

SS - R. Clayton

vs. LH

LF - R. Johnson

RF - A. Rios

CF - V. Wells

DH - F. Thomas

3B - T. Glaus

C - G. Zaun

1B - L. Overbay

2B - A. Hill

SS - R. Clayton

Overbay and Zaun could flip in the LHP lineup.

Bench:

SS/INF - J. McDonald

SS/INF/LF - J. Smith

C/1B - J. Phillips

RF/LF/1B/DH - M. Stairs

I think he pitches more of a 3/4 than submarine, IMO I think it's fine the way it is.

Oops it was Shawn Scobee who was an outfield prospect converted this season to be a pitcher. He was in Low-A last season. Not sure where he'll end up.

Jays cut the following players in minor league camp:

RP Jason Arnold

RP Josh Sowers

RP Hector Delgadillio

RP Casey McKenzie

Sowers and McKenzie pitched in Low-A, Delgadillio was in R. Jason Arnold retired last season and may have decided to come back this year but he got cut. You probably have to re-add him if he signs elsewhere.

Here's some Indians news for ya. Copied from the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Akron Beacon Journal.

Indians send Luna down.

Hector Luna, who made his eighth error of the Grapefruit League season Friday night, was optioned to Class AAA Buffalo on Saturday by the Indians. Infielder Keith Ginter, right-hander Brian Sikorski and catcher Armando Camacaro were also sent down.

Ginter, Sikorski and Camacaro were re-assigned to minor league camp. Ginter and Sikorski are expected to open the season at Buffalo.

Starting rotation:

C.C. Sabathia

Jake Westbrook

Cliff Lee (will start season on DL, replaced likely by Fausto Carmona)

Jeremy Sowers

Paul Byrd

The bullpen is set with closer Joe Borowski followed by Rafael Betancourt, Roberto Hernandez, Aaron Fultz, Fernando Cabrera, Jason Davis and Matt Miller.

Wedge can't use a set batting lineup, however

much of the Indians' lineup is a settled issue.

1. Grady Sizemore

2. Nixon against righties, Michaels against lefties

3. Travis Hafner

4. Victor Martinez

5. Blake, no matter which position he plays

6. Dellucci against right-handers, (?) against lefties

7. Jhonny Peralta

``We've had a lot of discussion about the eight and nine spots,'' he said. ``Josh Barfield and Andy Marte are the guys, but I don't know where they will bat yet.
