Mariners optioned LHP Jake Woods, INF-OF Mike Morse and OF Adam Jones to Triple-A Tacoma.

Woods was expected to make the team as a middle reliever, but the Mariners are going with Rule 5 pick Sean White and rookie Brandon Morrow over him. He'll likely be in the rotation at Tacoma.

Mariners purchased the contracts of RHP Brandon Morrow, LHP Arthur Rhodes and C Jamie Burke from Triple-A Tacoma.

We hope the Mariners weighed every disadvantage to carrying Morrow just 10 months after drafting him fifth overall last year. He does seem ready to help the bullpen now, but so is Jake Woods. The Mariners may regret starting his service time clock this early and putting him on the 40-man roster years before they had to.

Mariners reassigned shortstop Rey Ordonez to minor league camp.

Mariners designated infielder Michael Garciaparra for assignment.

Mariners acquired outfielder Jason Ellison from the Giants for LHP Travis Blackley.

Yankees released LHP Ron Villone and catcher Ben Davis.

Villone was told Friday he wouldn't make the team. He's still deciding whether to head to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre or seek employment elsewhere.

Cubs optioned outfielder Buck Coats to Triple-A Iowa.

Marlins purchased the contracts of OF Alejandro De Aza, INF Jason Wood and RHP Lee Gardner.

Brewers optioned RHP Jose Capellan and INF Vinny Rottino to Triple-A Nashville; reassigned RHP Stephen Bray, RHP Chris Spurling, LHP Joe Thatcher, INF Ozzie Chavez and C J.D. Closser to minor league camp.

Capellan lost his spot to Greg Aquino after giving up 10 runs -- six earned -- in 10 2/3 innings. The bigger surprise is that the Brewers are keeping Tony Gwynn Jr. over Rottino when there will be little for the 24-year-old to do other than pinch-hit and pinch-run. It seems unlikely the club will want to limit Gwynn to that kind of role all season long.

Athletics purchased the contracts of OF Travis Buck and INF Todd Walker from Triple-A Sacramento.

Athletics optioned LHP Brad Halsey to Triple-A Sacramento; reassigned infielder Lou Merloni to minor league camp.

Athletics designated infielder Antonio Perez for assignment.

White Sox agreed to terms with LHP Matt Thornton on a three-year, $3.25 million contract with club options for 2010 and 2011.

Mets optioned RHP Mike Pelfrey to Single-A St. Lucie.

Pelfrey, the Mets' No. 5 starter, will make a start for St. Lucie on Saturday before making his season debut on April 13.

Orioles sent RHP Todd Williams outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Dodgers purchased the contract of RHP Rudy Seanez from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Manager Manny Acta announced his batting order, with the only minor surprise being that catcher Brian Schneider will hit sixth.

"He's a lot better hitter than what I remember," Acta said. The catcher hit .371 (13-for-35) with a home run and five RBI during the spring. The rest of the Nats lineup will go like this: Felipe Lopez, Cristian Guzman, Ryan Zimmerman, Austin Kearns, Dmitri Young, Schneider, Ryan Church and Nook Logan.

Manager Bob Melvin announced he plans on using Stephen Drew as the Diamondbacks' leadoff hitter.

Eric Bruntlett cleared waivers before being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

Coach Bob Melvin confirmed Saturday that Dustin Nippert has made the 25-man roster out of the bullpen.

Dodgers optioned 1B James Loney, 3B Andy LaRoche and RHP Chin-Hui Tsao to Triple-A Las Vegas; reassigned OF Larry Bigbie and INF Tony Abreu to minor league camp.

Dodgers acquired infielder Tomas Perez from the Cubs for future considerations.

Angels purchased the contract of RHP Chris Bootcheck from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Angels optioned 1B Kendry Morales, RHP Chris Resop, C Jeff Mathis and OF Nick Gorneault to Triple-A Salt Lake; reassigned RHP Alex Serrano, RHP Matt Wilhite and OF Curtis Pride to minor league camp.

Diamondbacks reassigned RHP Micah Owings to minor league camp and optioned RHP Yusmiero Petit to Triple-A Tuscon.

The Cubs and Carlos Zamrbrano are closing in on a five-year contract worth more than $80 million, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports.

Adrian Gonzalez's four-year deal with the Padres is worth $9.5 million.

He gets a $500,000 signing bonus, $500,000 this season, $750,000 in 2008, $3 million in 2009 and $4.75 million in 2010. The $5.5 million option for 2011 doesn't include a buyout, and he'll still be arbitration eligible if it's declined. As before, he'll be eligible for free agency for the first time after 2011.

Royals purchased the contracts of third baseman Alex Gordon and RHP Brandon Duckworth. Gordon will start at third base and bat fifth on opening day.

Royals optioned outfielder Joey Gathright to Triple-A Omaha.

White Sox agreed to terms with infielder Pablo Ozuna on a one-year, $1.25 million contract extension through 2008 with a club option for 2009.

He'll earn $1.05 million in 2008. The 2009 option is for $1.2 million and includes a $200,000 buyout. The 32-year-old Ozuna is making $800,000 this year and would have been arbitration eligible again in 2008. 2009 is his first year of free agency eligibility. There's little upside to this deal, and the possibility exists that he'll have a bad year and the White Sox will want him gone in 2008. Still, they're not risking much.

Royals manager Buddy Bell refused to name a No. 1 catcher on Sunday.

Jason LaRue and John Buck will keep battling for playing time. "It turned out OK," Bell said. "Both played very well defensively. Not sure how we are going to go about that."

The Diamondbacks have decided to use Brandon Lyon as the top setup man for Jose Valverde.

Tony Pena is going to be the seventh-inning guy. Brandon Medders can also help then, but he'll be used along with Doug Slaten for matchup purposes.

Chad Tracy will bat cleanup on Opening Day, Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said Sunday.

There won't be a set lineup in Arizona, as Melvin intends to play matchups. He'll go with the following alignment tomorrow: SS Stephen Drew, RF Eric Byrnes, 2B Orlando Hudson, 3B Tracy, LF Scott Hairston, 1B Conor Jackson, CF Chris Young and C Chris Snyder.

Jay Marshall (OAK-AA) Throws submarine style. He also has made the Opening Day roster.

Marshall: A 24-year-old submariner plucked from the White Sox organization in December's Rule 5 draft, he likely would have made the club without the injuries to Johnson (hip) and Loaiza (right trapezius).

If Marshall hadn't pitched well enough to break camp, the A's would have had to offer him back to Chicago, but Marshall posted a 2.76 ERA in 12 appearances to become the first Rule 5 player to stick with Oakland since righty reliever Mike Neu in 2003.

Marshall got the news in a morning meeting with Geren.

"He said, 'Do you think you can pitch up here?'" Marshall explained with a huge smile. "I said, 'I think I can.' And he said, 'Good. So do we. You made the team.' ... It was one of the best things I've ever heard in my life."

The first phone call Marshall made was to his parents, Rich and Debbie, in St. Louis. It had been Rich's job to keep the son apprised of what was being written about his chances throughout the spring.

"It was pretty exciting, obviously," Marshall said.

Geren said he'll try to get Marshall, who dominated left-handed hitters for most of the spring, some low-pressure appearances early in the year as opposed to sending him out to face, say, Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners in the seventh inning on Opening Day.

"We'll ease him in," Geren said.

Reds

Dustin Hermanson was released

In other roster news, pitchers Jared Burton and Jon Coutlangus made the club following fine performances in the spring. The most notable omission from the 25-man roster was Santos.

Lineup set: The Reds released their Opening Day lineup on Sunday. Ryan Freel will lead off and play center field, followed by Adam Dunn (LF), Brandon Phillips (2B), Ken Griffey Jr. (RF), Edwin Encarnacion (3B), Scott Hatteberg (1B), Alex Gonzalez (SS), David Ross © and Aaron Harang (P).

Brewers

Tony Gwynn Jr. made the team over Vinny Rottino. Jose Cappelan did not make the opening day roster

The full roster:

Pitchers (12): Aquino, Dave Bush, Chris Capuano, Francisco Cordero, Elmer Dessens, Ben Sheets, Brian Shouse, Jeff Suppan, Derrick Turnbow, Vargas, Carlos Villanueva, Matt Wise.

Catchers (2): Estrada, Damian Miller

Infielders (5): Craig Counsell, Prince Fielder, Tony Graffanino, J.J. Hardy, Rickie Weeks Outfielders (6): Gabe Gross, Gwynn, Bill Hall, Corey Hart, Geoff Jenkins, Kevin Mench.

Astros

Luke Scott will get the majority of starts in RF over Jason Lane. Lane will play some against lefties, but it won't be a straight platoon.

HOUSTON -- During batting practice on Saturday, manager Phil Garner trotted to the outfield where Luke Scott was shagging fly balls and informed him that he would be starting in right field on Opening Day.

It appears Scott will receive the majority of playing time in right this season. Garner won't use a straight platoon with Jason Lane, although he does plan to give Lane a handful of starts when the team is facing a left-hander.

"Luke will get a lot of the playing time," Garner said. "I will use not really a platoon situation, but I will play Jason Lane against left-handers on occassion."

That doesn't mean Lane will get every start against lefties. The Astros are facing Zach Duke on Monday, and Garner has no issue inserting Scott in the lineup for that game.

Also, Munson and Bruntlett did not make the MLB roster.

However, Chris Sampson (AA) won the 5th starters spot, and Non-roster invitees Brian Moehler and Rick White also made the cut, filling out the bullpen.

Orioles

Are going to go with a 13 man pitching staff to start the year

In terms of pitching, the Orioles are beginning the season with an eight-man bullpen. Danys Baez, Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker and Scott Williamson were signed as free agents in the offseason, and Baltimore is hoping they'll bolster what was arguably the team's biggest weakness in 2006.

Perlozzo said left-handers Walker, Parrish and Burres give the Orioles some interesting balance. Walker isn't a power pitcher, but Parrish definitely is one, while Burres can go multiple innings.

The decision to go with 13 pitchers leaves the bench thin, as Perlozzo will only have three players there in each game -- usually backup catcher Paul Bako and utility players Chris Gomez and Freddie Bynum.

Bynum made the team thanks to Payton going on the disabled list, retroactive to March 27, because of a strained right hamstring.

Braves

Cormier won the final spot over Davies

Davies lost out to Cormier for the fifth spot in the rotation. Davies will pitch next Sunday for Richmond at Buffalo if Cormier is healthy. The simulated game will be against Class A Rome hitters during a workout

Cardinals

Batting Order for opening day

1. Eckstien SS

2. Wilson RF

3. Pujols 1B

4. Rolen 3B

5. Molina C

6. Edmonds CF

7. Taguchi LF

8. Kennedy 2B

from the cardinals website:

That, combined with Molina's history of a significant platoon split, led La Russa to give his catcher a look in the No. 5 spot against left-handed pitchers -- such as the Mets' Sunday starter, Tom Glavine.

In fact, most of Saturday's Civil Rights Game lineup will likely be reprised on Sunday. Some of the choices are obvious, with David Eckstein (first), Albert Pujols (third), Scott Rolen (fourth) and Adam Kennedy (eighth) batting where they have for much of the spring. Others are less so.

To me, I would use the above lineup vs. lefties except for Taguchi I would put Duncan in there and swap him and Wilson in the order. Vs. righties I would swap Edmonds and Molina in the order, with Spezio in right and batting 7th. you could also keep Encarnacion as the RF starter as he is hurt now.

Yadier Molina uses the two-tone red handle, black barrel bat.

Chris Carpenter uses a black bat, His 2-seamer also has good downward movement, I would change it to left-slight

Preston Wilson - Light brown handle/black barrel bat

Pujols - Light Brown Bat

Edmonds - No shin guard

Mets

Carlos Delgado has low socks

David Wright - normal left wristband

Tom Glavine - light brown bat

Jose Valentin - Light brown bat

Jose Reyes - Black Bat

Carlos Beltran - Black bat

White Sox

Thorton and Ozuna both got extensions

Thornton receives a $550,000 salary in 2007 and will earn $875,000 in 2008 and $1.325 million in 2009, as the team bought out two years of arbitration. Chicago's option on Thornton for 2010 stands at $2.25 million, and the option would fall at $3 million for 2011, with $250,000 buyouts each season, representing another arbitration year and one free-agent year.

Thanks man, thought you would. I missed them last time they were in Toronto, but I'm going for sure the next time (which I hope is soon) ;)

The tour dates are up at the official site if you haven't seen it yet.

btw Totte, how was the move?

Only moved the kitchen stuff today because I'm waiting for the rest of the apartment to be painted this week but it feels good so far :)

Totte, do you want the Tribe's minor league rosters? Line ups would take a bit if you want those.

Yeah if it's possible and not too much to ask? :)

Thanks

Chris Walker is on the Tennessee roster for opening day. The rest of those moves look good right now if the roster limit isn't exceeded. I'm sure Iowa will release their roster later tonight or tomorrow. Their first game is Thursday.

P Chris Shaver is hurt and that is why he isn't on the AA roster I listed. I'd keep him there as he will join them when he's ready.

P Adam Harben will miss most of the year but he would have pitched in AA.

News alert for all of you UR-fans:

The roster will be out tomorrow as time just flies by. There are still some MVPedit errors in the rosters because of missing players in certain organisations. I'll try and work on it during the BOS@KC game tonight but there won't be a finished product until tomorrow.

I apologise for the delay as they were due for release today but I think I speak for all users when I say that it's better to wait another day and get more quality than a rushed version tonight.

Time for me to head to practice. First outdoor practice of the year - wohoo!

AAA Iowa Suggestions (based off 8.1.)

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...n=true&sid=t451

AA C Mike Mahoney retired and is now a coach, and AAA RP Jason Anderson was cut. SP Adam Harben is listed on AAA Iowa but I would keep him at AA as he is out for the season (Tommy John). Haven't seen anything about where RP Nate Bland is at. Not sure if he's a Cub anymore.

RP Ben Howard AA to AAA

SP Kevin Hart AAA to AA

SP Mark Prior Cubs to AAA

SP Ryan O'Malley AA to AAA (Weight to 205)

SP John Webb AA to AAA

C Koyie Hill AA to AAA

RP Clay Rapada Weight to 185

3B Scott Moore AA to AAA

RP Rocky Cherry Weight 225

1B Jason Hart Weight 235

Players not created on the roster

P Jim Henderson

P Corey Bailey

Starting Pitching Rotation (Just my guess)

Prior, Marshall, Omalley, Wells, Waldron

I'll try my hardest to get the A team cleared up today. It might not be until after work as I'm swamped this week. I haven't seen the release of them online yet but I'll be checking. :construct:
