Millenium-

Thanks for going over that Oriole stuff. It's always weird ripping some other teams players (Julio, Ponson), but feels a little better when their own fan agrees. But I did that to my own team too, way back in the beginning when I told HypnoxXx Rueter's stuff was way too good. Now he has "crappy" stuff which goes along with his "smoke & mirrors" arsenal.

Anyone who cares-

I'm just sharing one of many mindless baseball stories. I'll make it quick. In grade school I'm visiting my relatives in Ojai in southern California. My uncle, a bigger baseball nut than myself, takes my cousin and I to a high school baseball game in the city of Oxnard, about 25 miles away, to see this unbelievable talent. The Rio Mesa High baseball field is immaculate, like a top college field (w/o the stands). Beyond the outfield fence lies the girls softball field, which is getting watered by sprinklers. The star that we had come to see hits a rocket from the right side that comes off his bat like a Tiger Woods drive (keeps on rising and then falls straight to earth) to dead center. It plugs in the wet ground way beyond the fence. After a kid retrieves it, the pitching coach of the team asks the kid to take the string used for the baselines and measure how far from the fence the ball landed, since its depression was obvious. The kid brings back the string and after the game they measure the home run at 495 ft. (granted it was an aluminum bat). Then after the game the star and his dad use the field and practice his left handed hitting all the way until dark. We stay and watch the whole thing, as he hits ball after ball pitched to him by his dad.

The star? Dmitri Young. True story.

Latest News Apr. 4, 2005 - 6:38 am et

Just days after being claimed by Seattle on waivers, Wilson Valdez will be the Mariners' Opening Day shortstop.

With both Pokey Reese and Jose Lopez hurting, and Ramon Santiago in the minors, Valdez gets the nod. ''We decided this is the way we wanted to go,'' general manager Bill Bavasi said. ''We were looking to shore up the position, create some depth and not have to bring up a prospect to play.''

Doesnt really matter for utilmate roster because HypnoxXx goes by the injury rule for players that injure for 3 months or less that he decided when making the ultimate roster.

A few changes ive noticed now matt miller on the indians should have a side arm delivery, But, his pitch trajectories are all wacky especially his slider, it looks like a screwball coming in, im not sure what it should be. I had a few more I was going to say but ive forgotten what i was going to say.

That's a trajectory issue, the player is giving a trajectory for a pitch that is recommended for that pitch.

It might be fixable with the in game editor.

Also players, Luther Hackman Cle (AAA), and Seth Greisinger Atl (AAA) also have trajectory issues

Yes I know it is a fixable issue with the in game editor, I was just giving these guys a heads up on the issue so that they can fix it on the set. So it looks like its mainly and imported player issue, im going to try and look into this a little more.

Brandon Duckworth is batting twice with no dh lineup. Pitcher spot is there twice. Tried to fix during exhibition game and game crashed. I like Stros, but it is messing up the game beacuse RR pitchers will bat like 4 or 6 times per starter every game. Possible fix? Just like to know. Thanks for the rosters btw ps2 rosters

Here's the master of the obvious:

A. Ramirez: 4yr. $42 mill.

CUBS FANS:

I won't make the argument for you (I do way too much anyways  ), but I'll give you some stuff to take to HypnoxXx and llcmac now that your boy Aramis is a high paid star:

"...the team was thrilled that Ramirez cut his errors down from 33 in '03 to 10 in '04"-Athlon Sports Baseball

"Defense: His agility was better last year because his weight was down, that produced noticeable improvement. Still working on his footwork. Really improved his throwing accuracy w/ a change in alignment of his feet"- S.N. Ultimate Scouting Guide

"He's improved his footwork. He's getting in better position to field the ball and make the accurate throw. His hands and arm strength have always been 1st rate"- Lindy's Scouting 2005

Yes, I know D. Lee at 1st "makes" him a better fielder. But does Lee catch the ball for him as well. Things that make you go Hmmmm....

There's a little event going on over at SBC today, so I'm out.

mjphillips-

See my answer to your post on the previous page or two. You'll find it.

Have you solved the problem where if in owner mode at the end of your first season, the program crashes so you can't go to season 2?

Thanks for your long hard work!!

A couple more possible ID changes:

The ID for the Nationals Tony Blanco is actually for the 1990's Tony Blanco and not really for this rookie. i guess it could be used because the old school blanco will never see the bigs again and the audio probably isn't there anyway.

Need ID for Steve Schmoll when created. Buddy Carlyle ID should be 140 (from tony3's list).

As I recall, you got ID# 2718 for Tony Blanco, and there's stadium announcement for him, use that one.

(btw, I'm changing the default audios for some players to hear different announcement, that was fun.)

Your'e right. for some unknown reason i didn't think of checking the list for that one. thanks, and by the way, how are you changing the default audios? are you able to add audio to the files, i.e. have barry bonds announced using last years audio file or how are you doing it???

nevermind, i found the thread in this forum regarding this possibility. that would be great to clean up the conflicting names but what would be really nice is to be able to extract and import announced names from 2003 and 2004. I have no knowledge on that subject. It would be a nice addition to this roster set or any others by furthering the realism.

"TAGS" PMs sent out to Kraw and abacus...Thanks to everyone for keeping their eyes peeled for theives...

And now a request...

A shock to you all, I'm sure, but I haven't touched the rosters since 1.0 was uploaded. I've actually been taking the time to enjoy my work, start my dynasty and actually PLAY the game LoL. (That and the Doom 3 expansion woohoo!) I still read the thread everyday, and I see that there's like 3 or 4 new PAGES everyday to it. So here's what I need. Would anyone like to become our "changes gatherer" (that sounds better than secretary lol)?

What I would need from you is to basically take all the suggested moves, changes and creations and make a list for llcmac and I so that whenever we decide to tackle an update, all the necessary info will be there. Furthermore, placing them into categories would be a big help too...Example...

1) Player Movement

a) trades

B) released

c) signings

d) retirements

2) Player Tweaks

a) Ratings fixes

B) Appearance fixes

c) Audio/Photo ID # changes/fixes

3) Proposed CAPS (include what team and level they should be created for)

4) Roster Tweaks

a) Lineups and Rotations fixes

If anyone would be willing to gather all of this info that has been done since we released 1.0 and then keep it updated until llcmac or I ask for it, we would REALLY appreciate it.

I love this site. Red Sox fans cursing Foulke and blaming Epstein for the Renteria signing already. Riveria’s all washed up. Claims that Jeter is the best clutch player (which he actually might be). Most Underrated (?): Buerhle vs. Sheets. A brief glance of the forum is like a night at the Improv.

On another note, I saw HypnoxXx’s request for a secretary. Whoever decides to take on this helpful task, I will continue to go thru each organization’s pitchers in roughly the same format. This way members can catch glaring weaknesses in my stuff. I promise that I’m looking at as many places as I can before I post this stuff. I use about 5 different scouting sources for each pro player. While some rating tweaks may be explicit (throws 91-94 now instead of 87-89 before), some rating tweaks just may be to downgrade or upgrade a certain pitch. Then let HypnoxXx or llcmac give it a little tweak in whatever direction. Sometimes a whole new or different pitch must be added, along with a description (plus, above-average, etc.). Sometime it helps to have MVPedit open when you go through it, to see what it is that needs to be changed. Feel free to ask if there are any questions.

As McCarroll brought to the thread’s attention last night (and GForce has stated in certain threads), the only way to rate for POTENTIAL is through the star rating system. I don’t have the magic answer, but I sure don’t want a league full of Pujols’ or Randy Johnsons. On the other hand, I’m not going to let the potheads at EA determine who gets a 5-star (at least not in my dynasty) I would recommend that someone start a poll on the best, MOST FAIR way to represent this. I have suggested using the Top 100 list at different intervals, but by no means is my idea the best. However, I’m sure some fans whose team doesn’t have any top 10 or 20 prospects will be left out. The Giants haven’t developed a bonafide star (maybe Joe Nathan) in a long, long time, so it’s not unrealistic that some teams will be left out. It would be something interesting to get some knowledgeable input on.

MLB-Chicago White Sox

Again their rotation looks pretty good (I love Buehrle, excels with an “everyman’s†arm).

J. Contreras is a head case like Ponson but doesn’t have nearly his stuff so I’ll leave him alone. Takatsu is just “freaky-deakyâ€.

But the middle guys I have a problem with. In the S.N. Scouting Guide, White Sox relievers (not including closers) are rated:

[1. T. Gordon, 2. J. Rincon, 3. B.J. Ryan, 4. L. Hawkins]

5. Damaso Marte (he may have had an off year in ’04, but look at his last THREE years together, AWESOME)

23. Luis Vizcaino

39. D. Hermanson

91. Cliff Politte

When you look at their stuff it’s the exact opposite. The easiest way is to go over each individually.

Marte-

“…90-94 mph fastball w/ good life...an 81-84 SLURVE and a straight change he uses sparingly…starts the slurve at lefties and backdoors rightiesâ€- S.N. Ult. Scouting Guide

“…slider that acts like a slurve…†from: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/scouting?statsId=6261

Translation: He should have two 90-ish (overall) rated pitches. His fastball and a SLURVE, while his changeup should be around 70 (where it is now). [90-ish= 89-91, 80-ish= 79-81, etc.]

Vizcaino-

“…fastball comes w/ heavy BORING action and tops out at 94 mph…also has a quick late-biting slider and a splitter that has very late sinking action, which is his out pitch…â€

Translation: Splitter is his “best†pitch and should be in the high 80s, while his fastball should be very close (mid 80s), and a 80-ish slider. 3 very good/good pitches.

Hermanson-

5 average/below-average pitches. No argument here, considering his age.

Politte-

He has an 87 rated slider in the game. Huh? On what planet? Look at this quote: “Will make too many mistakes w/ a slider that has a short break.†Bottom line: his stuff should be near or worse than Hermanson’s (according to stats AND scouting report)

I’m working on the CHW minors right now.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

It’s a while before I get to the Giants org, but somebody OTHER than a Giants fan who has access to Giants games (MLB.tv, etc.) please look at today’s game Dodgers/Giants. While at the game (on a business card no less), I counted 5 pitches other than a fastball and splitter-like changeup for Schmidt (2 curves, 3 sliders). All but one K was on the 88 mph changeup (look at the movement). I’ve tried on this thread to point out that Schmidt is not Pedro or Maddux w/ 100 different pitches. He is a TWO PITCH pony, it just so happens that those two pitches are down right nasty, filthy, etc. PLEASE, someone corroborate this when I get to Schmidt’s attributes. His slider is average and his curveball is so-so, at best.

READ THIS ARTICLE: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_...228/ai_n6158363

How fun is it for Oriole fans if B.J. Ryan’s best pitch is a splitter? Or Red Sox fans if Wakefield throws a devastating fastball?

Really rough guideline I used last year was using John Sickels' prospect handbook (since he, like me, tends to grade somewhat conservatively).

A or A+ = 5

B+ or A - = 4

C+, B- or B = 3

C or C- = 2

Prospects not in the book = 1

If my TotalMinors potential projections (which are not part of the prospect creator sheet, but I should really add again) said something drastically different than this I adjusted, but basically this was how I did star rating.
