And the biggest deal yet...

The Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers have agreed in principle on a trade that will send Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for key prospects, sources told ESPN's Peter Gammons on Tuesday.

The Tigers would send outfielder Cameron Maybin, pitcher Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and minor league pitchers Eulogio De La Cruz, Dallas Trahern and Burke Badenhop to the Marlins.

I can't wait for the season to begin!

Yo I don't play MVP anymore but this happened today:

Jays got CF/UTIL Buck Coats from the Reds for a PTBNL/cash.

They are also still involved in talks with BAL for Erik Bedard, SF for Lincecum/Cain and also possibly PIT for Bay.

C Paul Lo Duca is very close to signing with the Jays also to a 1YR/$2.5M contract. He'll split time with Zaun as the catcher.

I haven't heard the Bay or Lo Duca rumors yet but good for them. They would both be nice fits, especially Bay (or Bedard) who's canadian.

So what do you play these days? NHL?

The Dodgers have reached an agreement with Jones - two years, $36MM. Despite all the posturing from Scott Boras, the Dodgers got Andruw for a reasonable rate and term. Nice move by Ned Colletti.

Not a trade, but here's a note on the Angels roster:

"Barring another major move between now and the start of the season, Scioscia said he is leaning toward using Gary Matthews Jr. in the second spot behind leadoff batter Figgins. Vladimir Guerrero probably would hit third, and Hunter and Garret Anderson would hit fourth and fifth."

This is from the LA Times 12/06/2007, http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-spw-angre...eadlines-sports

So it looks like the line-up against all pitchers/DH rules/etc. will be:

Figgins

GMJ

Guerrero

Hunter

Anderson

(Kotchman?)

(Kendrick?)

(Napoli?)

(Aybar/Izturis?)

Most of the other trade rumors are dying down. The Lincecum thing is still in the air but it's in SF's court. Lo Duca wants more than the deal they're willing to give him but something will probably still be worked out. I got a PSP now and just play PSP games for the most part. You got all the Rule 5 changes? Jays released Ryan Houston to make room for their guy they claimed in the MLB phase on the 40-man roster (Randy Wells I believe is his name).

I wish I could play NHL, but the PC version is such a piece of crap. It's the same thing as NHL '06.

I just got my hands on a list of the moves that went down but it didn't mention the release of Houston.

Is it really that bad cuz 06 sucked?! Then I'm definitely not spending a dime on buying that game

From the reviews I've read '06, '07 and '08 for PC are all the same esentially with very little changes. Almost all the changes for consoles did not happen.

As for the Jays, the Giants seem reluctant to trade Lincecum since they are really in a rebuilding phase. They haven't told the Jays no but they are exploring other avenues including some talks for a Hideki Matsui/Noah Lowry trade with the Yankees.

Also, the Jays are about to sign FA C Paul Lo Duca to a one-year deal worth about $3M. The deal should be announced later on tonight officially with the real terms. I assume there's performance bonuses or something included. He'll split time with Zaun as the catcher, getting more starts vs. LHPs.

"Tigers acquire outfielder Freddy Guzman from the Rangers for first baseman Craig Shelton"

-- Is it Craig Shelton? I always thought his name was Chris! But, that's not what mlb.com said.

Padres acquire right-hander Jose Guevara from the Marlins for cash considerations

Cubs acquire right-hander Tim Lahey from the Rays for cash considerations

cybernetic, the 06 gameplay is the best, IMO, but it still lacks precision control.

Totte, did you get all the rule 5 selections? They're in the MLB news at rotoworld, check the posts around 10-11AM for them.

Way to make a statement with your first post

I'm in the habit of checking the Baseball America prospects blog every day:

http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/

I update my rosters using all of the information contained there within. Right now it's a bit cluttered because they did a live blog for the Rule 5 draft, but normally it's a very neat and ordered look at prospects from all minor league levels.

Probably the most helpful for you would be the weekly rundown of all minor league transactions -- I believe it's updated every Wednesday, so I always make sure to check it then and stay current with all the minor league happenings.

Other than that it's regularly updated with scouting reports on various prospects, so all in all, it's a very helpful tool for roster modders like yourself.

Totte, instead of doing the contracts mid-season, how about I do them during spring training?

I'm definitely up for that. How 'bout you? You able to help out again? Please :)
