Hey guys, just checkin in on you from sunny San Diego.

Sorry the latest rosters didn't work, I'll make sure to get them fixed once I get back home in about 2 weeks. Still shootin for a mid-april release...

Why did you have to go on vacation now?! You should have waited until getting the new roster out before going on vacation. You certainly have a lot of nerve keeping us waiting.

Just kidding!

I hope you keep Francisco Castillo on the Yankee "A" team.

Enjoy your vacation!

Cubs MLB rotation set.

1. Zambrano

2. Lilly

3. Dempster

4. Hill

5. Marquis

This really sucks, and it's a pretty cowardly move by Piniella IMO. He knew Marquis and Dempster would ***** and moan about going to the pen. So if the competion was close he was gonna take the easy way out and put the one guy (Lieber) who says I would do anything the Cubs ask of me.

The numbers speak for themselves.

Lieber career numbers- 129-121, 4.28 career era

Marquis career numbers- 68-61,4.56 career era

Dempster career numbers(as SP)-52-59, 4.99 career era

Spring training numbers

Lieber-2-0, 1.80 era, 15 IP, 0 HR, 2 BB, 12 SO

Marquis-1-1, 2.95 era, 18 IP, 1 HR, 6 BB, 12 SO

Dempster-2-1, 4.50 era, 16 IP, 2 HR, 8 BB, 13 SO

So it's pretty obvious to me that Lieber is the much better career pitcher then those guys, and pitched better then both of those guys this spring. This is a stupid move by Piniella.

Rant over.

Bullpen not totally set. Scott Eyre might be hurt to start the year and Marshall and Pignatiello will compete for his spot. These guys have spots so far.

CL: Wood

SU: Marmol

SU: Howery

LR: Lieber

Don't have the means to check who all is in the rosters anymore, but here are some Giants releases as of yesterday (from scout.com):

The latest round of releases included:

Marcus Sanders

Patrick Dobson

Joey Dyche

Henry Gutierrez

Juan Jean

Santiago Lara

Chad Rothford

Will Thompson

Tyler Von Schell

Matt Weston

Gregorio Geronimo

Yosandy Ibanez

The most notable on that list is Marcus Sanders, as he was one of the top ranked prospects in the system as recently as last season. Too many injury problems though.

Just thought I'd let you know - these were always my rosters of choice :D

Cates was released by Colorado earlier this week; he's a FA.

Webb is also a FA.

Thanks KG.

The Mets have given up trying to trade for Rule 5 pick Steven Register, and are letting him go back to Colorado. He'll report to AAA.

Ruben Gotay, who had been DFA'd by the Mets, has been picked up by the Braves.

Various MLB roster news.

Kyle Sleeth, the third overall pick in the 2003 draft, told the Tigers this week that he's retiring. Sleeth never made it all of the way back Tommy John surgery and was removed from Detroit's 40-man roster in August. "My arm's at full strength now, but I never got back the velocity where I was previously," Sleeth said. "With some guys, their velocity goes up afterward and with some guys it doesn't. I didn't gain any velocity, I lost velocity, but that's what I had to work with." He finished a 2007 season spent mostly at Single-A Lakeland with an 8.11 ERA in 77 2/3 IP.

The Houston Astros announced today that the club has asked for waivers on right-handed pitcher Woody Williams for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

The Rangers have reportedly acquired right-hander Dustin Nippert from the Diamondbacks for right-hander Jose Marte. Nippert was the favorite to win the last spot in Arizona's bullpen going in, but he had an awful spring and greatly frustrated the Diamondbacks in the process. Now the talented 26-year-old will be the Rangers' problem. It's a great pickup for them, especially since they didn't have to give up a key piece of their deep farm system.
