bbythepier
This post is not a “chest thumper†or an “I told you soâ€. This post is both a suggestion post and an ADVERTISEMENT. Advertisement? For all those fence-sitters out there who might be leary that a known Giants fan is putting every pitcher under the “tweak knifeâ€. Are EA’s pitch selections so bad? What will be the result after all these changes? What are his motives? Can he be trusted? Pure Chaos? While statistical giants like GForce, jackcasper and billharris will tell you that 1 one-year simulation is not enough, and rightfully so, they will also tell you the statistical odds that a pitching staff will simulate to almost 100% believability is fairly high due to so many variables. This was my first sim of the DBacks after my “blind tweaksâ€. I looked at it and thought to myself, “I could really see this as their ACTUAL stats at the end of ‘05â€. I’ll let you judge for yourself, but I believe this can work. Shows: 1. Pitch tweaks can be effective in both user play and sim play. 2. The tweaks have some balance 3. This “tweaker†is not afraid to even look at one of the roster makers favorite teams (Lyon was the one aberration, as his ERA in the next two season sims was 4.57, 4.88, which is what I was looking for based on his prior MLB performance) Greg Aquino Brian Bruney Randy Choate Mike Gosling Brad Halsey Mike Koplove Brandon Lyon Russ Ortiz Oscar Villarreal Brandon Webb No changes to Estes and Vasquez. If anyone’s wondering, this page took me a whopping 9 minutes last night. Please no PM’s about wasting time.

abacusand13south
A few more corrections ive found. To contradict a previous post Jeremy Hill is indeed still with the mets hes in double a Kevin barker formerly of the phillies is now in double a with the blue jays andy dominuqe formerly of the red sox and more recently the mets is in triple a with the jays. Jason Phillips in doube a with the rays can be imported from 2004 he was with the Indians. Wayne franklin formerly of the giants. is in triple a with the Yankees . Eugene kinsdale now in double a with the orioles not sure if hes in the rosters yet he can be imported from 2004. Jared Sandberg is now in double a with the red sox. The white sox have 2 different josh fields one is a pitcher the other is a third basemen. I just always assumed they were the same person since fields had a pretty good arm at Oklahoma state. Alex prieto formerly of the twins is now in double a with the phillies. Todd sears formerly with the padres is now in double a with the marlins. Derrick Gibson formerly with the angels now in double a with the braves. Mario Ramos is back with the a’s. Bud smith import to the twins was with phillies in 2004. Cory Aldridge who is currently with the royals may be able to be imported from 2004 I think he was in it, if he was it will be with the braves. Vic darensbourg is with the tigers. Stephen Randolph is currently with the giants. Mike neu formely of the marlins is now with the dodgers in triple a. Cant remember right now if shawn sedlacek is in the rosters with the rockies, if hes not then he can be imported from 2004. Chris michalak is now with the diamondbacks in triple a. peter zoccolillo is now with the cardinals in triple a. scott macrae is in double a with the astros. also good work so far on that list, everytime I find one hes already been found but by my calculations heres the up to date list of players. Richard Paz, Mario Valenzuela, Chris Donnels, Roberto Garcia, Andy Beal, David Doster, Scott Sheldon, Ryan Kellner, Rick Bell, Gary Burnham, Shaun Babula, Bob Ryan, Mike Hill, Andrew Beinbrick, Mike Paradis, Jeremy Owens, Mike Romano, Brian Simmons, Shane Bowers, Greg Kubes, Jeremy Wedel, Shawn Fagan, Mark Lukasiewicz, Jorge Sequea, Elpido Guzman, Rich Gomez, Luis Rodriguez (the catcher) and Brant Ust. HypnoxXx
I guess we need to make Mike Koplove our ace, heh...And Russ Ortiz would probably rival Webb for lack of control, he's always walking everybody. I'm going to have to do something for Brad Halsey, because I think that kid has a lot of potential--Yes it was against the Rockies (whom I believe are the only team without a fan on MVPMods haha), but he still looked incredible the other day. Lyon might have been an aberration because he had no movement on that Curve--you throw a 79 mph floater that doesnt hardly move 1/4th of the time, then you should be thankful you only have a 7.40 ERA... bbythepier
bbythepier quick question regarding your ratings, how does webb have better control than the rest of the team he lead the league in walks last year. Very good question? Webb by far has the best stuff on the staff, but the only way to keep his ERA down is to keep his control #'s under raps. I don't want to give all his secondary pitches lots of movement and no control. Have you tried to play against a guy with 12,13, 14 movement on 2,3,4 pitches and no control on them. It's down right impossible to hit him. So I have to give and take in some areas. He doesn't have a "wicked" slider or change in real life, but I just can't knock the control down or his ERA will skyrocket (by making more "mistakes" with those pitches.) He does however have a "wicked" sinker so I can't touch the control or the 90+ rating will go down and his ERA will go up as well. Do you see what I mean? You have to BALANCE user play and sim play. If you give him exactly his real-life stuff, then the simulated stats will be out of whack. If you give stuff so his simulated numbers are right on, it's darn near impossible to hit him in user play, not to mention his stuff would have way more movement than in real-life. There's no perfect answer. Also, modders like billharris have repeatedly pronounced their frustration that they can't get enough BB out of pitchers. 78 BBs in 200 innings is acceptable to me, especially when considering his first year he only had 68 in 180 innings. Which was the barometer for his control? Don't know. I guess we need to make Mike Koplove our ace, heh...And Russ Ortiz would probably rival Webb for lack of control, he's always walking everybody. Lyon might have been an aberration because he had no movement on that Curve--you throw a 79 mph floater that doesnt hardly move 1/4th of the time, then you should be thankful you only have a 7.40 ERA... Yes, Hyp, I did change the Lyon curve to 11-5 after the first season. Ooops. Forgot that part. There's no way to make the manager use all the relievers evenly. Koplove was first in line and thus got the most APP. The 4.44 ERA is not that far out of line. Remember BALANCING user play AND sim play. You have to give and take on either side. If you want the bullpen used equitably, you'll have to coach them yourself, change the Manager attributes or find the "magic potion". I don't remember where I saw this, but if anyone thinks a "wild" pitcher should have less stamina, that is logically and statistically wrong. A wild pitcher will necessarily throw more pitches than a control one, and pitch count is what determines fatigue on this game. If you give a pitcher less control AND less stamina, that's a double whammy. Not fair. Some funny happenings during my simulations over the last two weeks. Before I turned off CPU Init. Trades, the computer offered me straightup, J. Kendall (3yr., 9.5 mill.) for C. Crawford (1 yr., $500K). Chan Ho Park won the Cy Young. (19-9 , sub 3.00 ERA) Derek Lowe won the Cy Young. Twice. bbythepier
One other thing, if it were me, I would put the LR guy at the back of the MR list, at least at the pro level where pitchers usually have way more stamina. Why? Look the APPs MR gets over LR. If you put him at the back of the MR list, it would distribute the APPs more evenly and also the INN/ relievers. Hopefully the guy at the end would have the least APP. Just a thought. (Screw realism if the game doesn't simulate according to reali-life) Villarreal, Koplove, Bruney 80+ APPs. Come on. If you threw Gosling at the back of the MR list, I bet each would have 60 or something. I'm going to have to do something for Brad Halsey, because I think that kid has a lot of potential--Yes it was against the Rockies (whom I believe are the only team without a fan on MVPMods haha), but he still looked incredible the other day. I don't know if you're referring to his W-L record or what (which I never look at because it says nothing), but a 4.71 ERA over 150+ innings this year appears about the best the Dbacks could hope for based on his past performance. If you want to give him more stuff based on one APP, then Saarloos who millenium and tonyee trumpeted as a "beast" would now be a journeyman after last night's performance. :? Weaver goes from 8 shutout against us to 5 today in the first. I'm going to take the view only PITCH CHARACTERISTICS are determined from early starts, not PITCH RATINGS. I will stay this way all through April. There was a guy on the A's when I was little, Dave Stewart. Every April his rookie card would go up in value, because invariably he'd start 4-0 with a 1.66 ERA. "April Rating" is more like "April Fools Rating". HypnoxXx
VERSION 1.1 UPDATE Hey all, just wanted to sneak in with an update on the progress of Ultimate Rosters v1.1...As of tonight, 24 AAA teams are complete and near accurate. Our own llcmac makes his return to the CAP ring with some players for Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Milwaukee and Philadelphia, miget33 returns to throw out a few more Cubs and Millenium is helping out with Baltimore CAPs. As soon as I get their CAPs, we should be able to get update 1.1 uploaded to you shortly thereafter. I duplicated starting rotations as best I could (I couldn't find the order, just who is in the rotation) and the lineups match up with the most recent lineups I've seen in box scores. There will, of course, be discrepencies between our AAA rosters and real life AAA rosters as we have no where else to place injured and suspended players and AAA rosters only actually feature 24 players. I have, however, tried to make sure every AAA player will be created, even if he has to be placed on AA, although I may have missed a few. For those of you diehards looking for a complete minor league roster, I have to say that is more than likely a ways away. As of tonight, there are 433 real players in AA and 108 real players in A. You can do the math as to how many holes/fakes that leaves (969 if you don't have a calculator)...This is not withstanding that I'm sure there are still some players in AA who are no longer on a team right now, which will probably bring the number of necessary CAPs/Imports to over a thousand. So please, keep that in mind. Bringing in 1000 players is not easy by any means.

jbmagicfan
HypnoxXx that great news on version 1.1. your roster is still the best. will version 1.1 have all the MLB daily transactions since version 1.0? here a good site for daily transactions. it way better than espn. http://fantasybaseball.rotoworld.com/conte...s.asp?sport=MLB just click on previous transactiosn to see the previous days. here a great web site for starting rotation order. Its shows the starting rotation order. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/atl/depthchart of course your going to adjust it some because of the injury rule with injuries less than 3 months for your roster. but it should give you an idea. also be careful with starting lineups by looking at latest box score. sometimes manager gives player day off and is not in the lineup. or uses different lineup vs righty and lefty. abacusand13south
A few possible ratings adjustments Jhonny peralta of the indians should probably have better batting ratings, I know he hasnt played in the majors that much but he was the international league mvp last season and the international leagues stats arnt inflated like the pcl. Peralta did hit .326 with 15 homers 44 doubles 2 triples and 86 rbi's. Brandon phillips hes no bonds but his ratings should probably be a little better how is danny garcia a better than him? phillps hit .303 with 34 doubles 4 triples and 8 homers with 50 rbi's. Jose hernandez should probably be a little better against righties shouldnt he? he only hit like .259 off of righties but still thats better than a few people who are actually rated higher against righties. Yes as you can tell im a wahoo warrior but im not biased when it comes to ratings, just a little food for thought. jb I was just poking a little fun, nothing to take personal. also robby hammock has resigned with the diamondbacks, hes on a minor league deal. Byrdak throws: 88-90 fastball, slider, changeup I'll look for the other guys, maybe later tonight. Smart88 and other Halo fans, Here's my changes to Angels staff. ALL based on scouting reports, followed by 3 season sims. Didn't touch Franky and Byrd. Hyp, I know, I know, but I'm like a little kid. I like pictures. Corrections: Give the fastballs w/ movement a 12-6 trajectory so they have a little tail in USER play. Give Prinz's change 1-7 (fade). Remember these don't have an effect on sim stats. Had to resize them before the peanut gallery started yelling. Please, just work with them this time. Must have got blurry on resizing. I'll do better next time. Why are the Angels getting so many losses? They are one of the best teams, aren't they? Answer: Guys like Zito, Moyer, Meche, Park etc. in their division are WAY overrated in the IN-Game ratings. Their ERAs are way below what their projections and performance suggest. Even if Moyer has a great change or Zito a great curve, if you give them 97 and 96 ratings respectively, their sim stats are all F-ed up. Look at my boy Lowry. He has an 87 rated changeup and a bunch of other junk and he sims to 4.00-5.00 ERA, which is way more believable than Moyer and Zito simming to sub 3.00 ERA at times. bbythepier
Yes, I AM AN IDIOT. My "pitch clock" is all screwed up. I went with EA's movement and I got jacked up. If anyone has seen a Changeup with "cut" movement, let me know. I've never seen one that isn't straight or fades. Did anyone see Sunday Night's game when Santana threw 3 in a row to Konerko and he looked like he was swinging wet spaghetti at a golf ball? So ALL changeups should look like: RHP- 12-6,1-7,or 2-8 LHP- 12-6, 11-5, or 10-4 Pages ago I told Hyp to give Lowry's change 2-8 like Moyer's. I was wrong, again. It should have been 11-5 or 10-4. BIG DEAL? Trust me, if Lowry's change didn't fade away from righties, his ERA would be like 18.00, like our bullpen's is right now.
