Quick question - if I installed these updated rosters ([20]Ultimate_Rosters_1.zip), does that mean that my dynasty won't be effected by them? I installed them, and one change is M. Myers to Boston from Cards, and my dynasty is with the Cards, and he is still on the team.

If I restarted my dynasty, would the rosters work? Just courious what the updated rosters effect.

Thanks

Top Prospects – Appearance Corrections for the top 100, in order of the following list:

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/featu...228top1004.html

(it includes some guys without the “Top 100†logo in the game; those not on this list but identified as a “Top 100†talent in the game are taken care of at the end)

Format: Team - Player Name (Face, Hair Color, Hair Style, Facial Hair)

IE: Reds AA - John Doe (Face # 1, Hair Color # 2, Hair Style # 4, Facial Hair # 4)

Note: I’m assuming these numbers in the console editor correspond with MVP edit.

Also, all the batting stance suggestions are made after watching these players at the plate on actual video. Thanks to MLB TV, I was able to go back and watch televised spring training games, see multiple plate appearances, and compare them to the pictures that are sparsely available on the net to come up with a suggestion. It takes some time, as I have to make sure that player is in the box score then find a televised spring training game with him in it. So these should be pretty accurate, but I’m open to other ideas. More to come for other prospects when I have time and if they’re well received.

Below is the list...

Great work andruw25, I knew ea didnt put all top 100 in the game considering in the game the indians only have 3 listed but in reality have 4, but damn looks like ea only put about 80 in the actual game. Also its been a slow news day since the d'backs made a great move picking up lopez, but on the transaction front the twins signed jimmy anderson, right now it looks like he will slide into the rotation spot vacated by gassner being called up. Mariners sold the contract of LHP Scott Mullen to the Yomiuri Giants of Japan. Mariners sold the contract of catcher-outfielder Kit Pellow to the Lotte Giants of Korea.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet or not but eric hinske has a new batting stance and it has likely had alot to do with his fast start. Heres photgraphic evidence of the stance.

I have a bad feeling that our friend bbythepier doesnt quite understand the MVP engine. In order to make all those tweaks he is making across the board with pitch movements and speed he must first understand the way the MVP engine works. By looking at his registration date im asuming that he wasnt around last year when people were tweaking all the pitches that led to a complete disaster. Everyone who was around last year are very familiar with the weird screwballs and pitches moving the wrong way because those

hacks didnt understand the engine, see in MVP some pitchers cannot be touched and are hardcoded into the game and if they are touched it will result in goofy pitches. Also every pitch delivery type like randy johnson and mussina for instance has a set of pitches and types that must stay a certain way and must be given only to leftys "Randy Johnson" those guidelines in MVP edit are only a base and does not apply in all situations. Unless you fully understand each part of the MVP engine I dont believe you are qualified to make all these changes to these pitchers bbythepier, Do all of us a favor and dont touch the pitches please lest we have a totally screwed up roster or rosters like last year because some hack thought he knew more then the person who coded the game. :x

shoelessjoe,

I can see your determination to live with the EA pitch selections. All of the selections I have given, I have exported in to my own MVP game. As HypnoxXx mentioned, I play one game with the team after all the tweaks have been made, using EVERY pitcher on the team so I can check them out as I go. I've yet to run into any problems , but I'll be sure to change them back if something goes awry. I have a fresh copy of Version 1, so I can always resort back to a pitchers default stuff if needed. While I'm vaguely familiar with last year's problem, I haven't noticed anything yet, probably because I have done almost no "total pitch changes" to marquee players.

The Big Unit still will have his Fastball, slider

Wakefield will still have his knuckler

Smoltz still has his slider and split

etc.

These guys I have and will touch very, very, very, little.

But giving Lopez a slurve or making Kline's best pitch a slider do not cause screwy pitches, only take less fantasy out of the game and add more realism, which I believe is the object of the roster. Does a magician shoot bows and arrows or a warrior cast spells in your bullsh*t fantasy games? No. Neither should Francisco throw a slider he doesn't have or Schilling's overhand curve should not be left out.

You can be pissed because you want real named players and you want them now, but I'm done answering to whiners who want real names, numbers, batting stances, cyberface with goatees, ads on the LF wall, logos behind home plate, uniforms, etc. but don't give a damn if 50% of actual gameplay (pitching) is remotely accurate. If you and others want to give in on this part because you don't care what a guy throws, you need to latch on the an early version of the Ultimate. I don't have a rat's @ss knowledge on the patches on the shoulders of uniforms or whether Tejada's stance is Helton, Chavez or whoever. But I do know what pitchers throw because it is what interests me. And just like them, I'll test and see if it flies. If it doesn't I'll change it back. Period.

bbythepier, Do all of us a favor and dont touch the pitches please lest we have a totally screwed up roster or rosters like last year because some hack thought he knew more then the person who coded the game. :x

Dude, I have more pitching knowledge in my left pinky than you, Peter Gammons, or some EA computer programmer could ever fathom. And not because I can read some scouting magazine, neither. I try not to make it a habit to pull things out my @ss, because I sure don't like it when it's done to me. So I cite my source. It's not gonna win me a show on Jeopardy or hook me up with that blonde at the end of the bar, but it sure comes in handy when sifting out the BS thrown out by others.

You assume he wasnt here because of his registration date? you registered 2 weeks after him so should we assume you were here? just proves you shouldnt assume things you have no clue about. do you even use the rosters? If you did you would know that nothing is done in haste and carefully planned out. judging from your previous post's you are just a troll who wants rosters with names and no tweaking or "scouting". Just shut up and leave troll.what do you have against bbythepier anyway?

Jesus Christ is this the bullshitt session or are these rosters gonna be done anytime soon? at this rate we may see a full set by the time MVP 2006 comes out if it does. Jeeze we got alot of scouts in here dont we? All of a sudden a guy reads a website and hes a Pro scout are you kidding me? enough already and just slap a name on the players and change their height, weight and be done with it. It isnt that serious its a video game it isnt real life for crying out loud!!!

I rest my case.

and your registration date just about as new as bbythepier. they dont mean anything. some new guys can be jerks, some new guys can be the among the best modders on the site. just becauase he is kinda new here doesnt mean hes stupid or somethin

Is version 1.1 going to be tested to be sure cpu dont release players and promote players from the minors too quickly?

i know high heat was like that when you make a roster set. Not sure if MVP is like that too.

It is obvious from what YOU wrote that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The issue last year was the break/trajectory settings were reversed for righties and lefties. It had NOTHING to do with star players or anything of the sort...it had zero to do with pitchers being hardcoded into the game. Nothing. And I assure you, I did more testing on last year's game, from a roster standpoint, than ANYBODY. Your description of the issues some people had last year is so far off base it's not even funny.

bby is SUGGESTING changes to guys based on scouting reports that tell you what they actually throw. Correct pitch types add realism, plain and simple. So long as he's checking in the game (and we have no reason to think he's not...when someone devotes as much time to researching something as he has, it's usually because they care to get it right), there's no reason to think anything he's suggesting will cause an issue.

He's helping these guys in their project. Seeing as how I am unable to do TotalMinors this year, I am glad there are others willing to contribute their time and energy to bring realism to this year's game. Appreciate the efforts...though to do that, you must first understand them. And judging from your post, this is a spot you're sorely lacking in.

i know high heat was like that when you make a roster set. Not sure if MVP is like that too.

thanks

jb, abacus, Hyp, llc, etc.,

I know I'm often long winded but I can make this fairly quick.

I went through the month of April with the White Sox (whose pitchers I haven't done yet) in dynasty mode. I went day by day until April 30 looking at other teams transactions to see what changes were going to be made by CPU teams. I want to break this into two categories, please.

First- These are the pitchers off the free agency list that will get scooped up right away (that are not fakes of course).

Boehringer

Guthrie

Daal

Abbott

Munro

I think Munro signed somewhere, but that's not the point. By going the way I am, whoever is left on the FA list when I get there I can downgrade so teams will not be inclined to snap them up so quickly without any injuries and replace them for one of the regulars on the staff. Plus, it's not realistic that someone like Boehringer has an 88 rated fastball. So I'm not just downgrading them for effect, but also because they deserve it. I hope that makes sense.

Second- While some teams are planning to bring up their young studs on the top 100 list (F. Hernandez for example), it will be impossible to keep say the Top 10 from being called up right away in most cases. Why? Because even though they won't be starting in the majors their projections, which assume they will spend all year in the big leagues, are often better than the last guy in the rotation. What?

If Matt Cain on the Giants "were to" pitch all year in the majors his projections are better than say a guy like Reuter. So his "stuff" will be better and thus the CPU will call him up at sometime, probably very quickly. So in order for this to make sense let me re-issue the top 5 pitching prospects and the ratings I assigned them so their simulated stats would be around their pro "Think Factory" projections.

OK, the top 5 pitchers. One quick side note. I know I preached simulation now may give skewed results, but I did 3 seasons with Kazmir three times (say that fast). Huh? Using Bill Harris' progression mod, I did a simulation for Kazmir with his current stuff and then 2 different ones. To all the ratings modders, here's food for thought. Increasing a pitch's rating by say 5 points seems to have different effects. What do I mean? Well, if you increase a pitchers best pitches, in this case Kazmir's fastball and slider, you do not get the same effect on stats if you increase his worst pitches by a similar amount. The logic is, a pitcher will be less apt to make a mistake when using his "least best" pitches than further dominating with his "best" pitches, probably because the CPU uses a similar mix of pitches regardless of small adjustments to their ratings. I hope that makes sense. Plus, I did not want to give Kazmir, a 21 year-old a 96 rated fastball to get his stats similar to his projected ones. So instead I bumped his worst pitches up to a 71 rating. This gave me 3 good seasons around his projected stats.

Thus I'm happy with Kazmir at:

Fastball 91, Slider 82, Curve 71, Change 71

So I'll build the 5 off that.

2. Hernandez

Fastball 91, Curve 85, Change 75, Slider 69

Hernandez is hard to rate. His fastball and curve are rated 70 on the 20-80 scale and his change is a 60, but look at this quote: "Word is his slider puts his other pitches to shame, but Seattle is keeping it under wraps in the interest of his health." So I think we should give some very good mov't on it but hardly any control.

13. Cain

(sinking) Fastball or Sinker 89, Curve 80, change 70

He uses his sinker as his fastball. He doesn't throw both.

Miller is more of a two-pitch guy than the previous according to scouting report. So his top 2 pitches will be equal or better while his change will be worse.

17. A. Miller

Fastball 91, Slider 83, Changeup 65

19. Billingsley

Fastball 87, Slider 80, Curve 75, change 63

I only did tweaks to Cain and Kazmir to bring them up to the ratings above and simulated 3 seasons and was happy w/ the results. If someone has a little time to waste, maybe you could try to do the same for Miller and Billingsley.

Note: It's possible that the pitchers with less number of "bad" pitches (Cain, Miller) will outperform the ones with 2 below averages pitches (Hernandez, Kazmir, Billingsley) because the computer is more likely to throw one of the "bad" pitches. (50%:33%). I'm not sure but it might be more confirmation of my theory that a pitcher's performance is based more on their "worst" pitches than their "best".

Here's what I used for Kazmir and Cain:

Kazmir:

Fastball: 0 movement, 77 control, 95 velocity, None =91

C. Change 6, 63, 80, 12-6 =71

Curve: 8, 50, 75, 1-7 =71

Slider: 10, 72, 84, 2-8 =82

Cain:

Fastball 9, 72, 95, 12-6 =89

Changeup: 7, 53, 83, 1-7 =70

Curveball: 10, 64, 80, 10-4 =80

BUT some other prospects will need to be examined.

Let me give one example:

Enrique Gonzalez (ARZ)- Who I believe is in the DBacks AA or AAA. He is the # 15 prospect in the DBacks organization. His stats last year were:

13-6, 3.22 ERA, 142 IP at A-Lancaster

Yet his fastball is rated 92 In-Game, which is higher than Kazmir's and Hernandez's!

SO I'M RELEASING these guys again so you can see there must be a hierarchy among prospects. I can live with say the Top 10 pitching prospects getting called up by the CPU, but not guys like Gonzalez above. His mph can be the same, but his control can be lowered so his OVERALL rating is around high 70's or 80, so he won't be called up for at least another year. I sure hope this makes sense and shows why I'm purposely going throught the majors first, then doing the propsects. It allows me to develop a FAIR HIERARCHY among pitchers, so that the majors is not filled with a bunch of prospects by the 2nd week of the dynasty.

Bby

Here are the projections again. Can you see that Hernandez's projection is definitely going to be better than whoever Seattle's worst guy is?

OK, what's all this stuff mean. Well, there sure is no pattern in the ratings. First let's start w/ 2005 Think Factory projections:

Felix Hernandez: 4.19 ERA 26G 144.0 Inn. 131H 64BB 143K 17HR

Scott Kazmir: 4.76 ERA 26G 123.0 Inn. 111H 76BB 125K 13HR

Matt Cain: 5.05 ERA 24G 130.0 Inn. 127H 70BB 119K 19HR

I honestly can't find Miller's and Billingsley's projections, any help? (Preferrably the one's from Think Factory's Dan Szymborski. [Here's where I looked for Miller's, but doesn't the actual teams rated look like the Angels, DBacks, Tigers, and Reds and some strays: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/..._build_4_11_13/

I do however see a pattern. Hernandez's stuff should be better than Kazmir's, who's stuff should be better than Cain's, etc.

Now no ERA will tell you what a guy throws, but his overall ratings of his repertoire will determine how good he is over a season. That's why R. Johnson gets a 99 fastball & slider. So it was impossible for me to do the Indians Adam Miller without doing Hernandez, Kazmir and Cain first.

bbythepier, without adding any fuel to the fires of those that attempt to distort or sabotage the efforts of many contributing to this project, i would like to acknowledge your contributions to the ultimate roster project. i really enjoy reading your posts; i know that the information is intended for changes made to the roster but i as well learn from your posts. i have unintentionally quoated some of your work in random conversation with friends when discussing baseball; primarily on the weekend at a smokey tavern with some kind of beverage in hand and baseball tonight in the background. i haven't given you credit during the conversations because that would require too much of an explanation but i thank you for what you have done here and hope you keep it up. thanks and great work. :D

I think you are rating these minor leaguers too high bbythepier, I mean they have no experience yet your making them All Stars, Felix Hernandez is 18 years old man and He will not be called up this year despite what you say, Are you kidding me? guys like Rafeal Soriano will be called up first He has Major League experience and has proven himself. And most people will not be using this Bill Harris progression mod so that means nothing. Ive had many pms already from people who agree with me in fear of getting flamed they will not speak up. I just think your going way too far with all these changes man and im glad at least 20 others agree with me so I aint alone. If I see something wrong im not scared I will say my opinion I dont care if people flame me. But I seen this coming just like last years rosters it starts out with a few changes then more and more and pretty soon we got a roster thats completley outta whack.

it's great that you have an opinion and i've considered it but i was around quite often last year and don't remember the problems you discussed with total minors(gforce22) and the real baseball system(jackcasper). i'm not sure if you are talking about one specific roster that was completely outta whack or if you were referring to all or nearly all of the rosters that contained modded/adjusted pitching.

shoelessjoe,

Now that's a constructive post. I'm not an ogre. You are 100% correct, because I'm working on sims right now. Your post didn't prompt me to go back because I'll soon post stuff that would have taken me an hour or two to fiddle with. Like my sig says, I'm often wrong and in this case I was. I hope you and other keep me in line. That's the point. (But until post the screenshot of pitcher's stuff, that means I haven't tested it.)
