abacusand13south
Couple transactions from the past day or so. Bobby Crosbys new contract with specifics directly from rotoworld. Athletics signed shortstop Bobby Crosby to a five-year, $12.75 million contract. The A's said they wanted to do this after getting Rich Harden signed. This takes Crosby right up to his first year of free agency. He gets a $250,000 signing bonus, $500,000 this year, $750,000 next year, $2.5 million in 2007, $3.5 million in 2008 and $5.25 million in 2009. It seems like a fair deal for both sides. If Crosby develops like the A's think he will, the team will probably save itself $3 million or so over the final two years of the deal Mariners signed RHP Albie Lopez to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Tacoma. Mariners released RHP Dan Reichert from Triple-A Tacoma. Royals purchased the contract of outfielder Matt Diaz from Triple-A Omaha. Royals optioned designated hitter Calvin Pickering to Triple-A Omaha. Astros signed LHP Tom Martin to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock. White Sox signed RHP John Stephens to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Charlotte. Giants designated outfielder Tony Torcato for assignment. bbythepier
I hope Hyp doesn’t want to choke me with these corrections. I’ll keep my chin down. Gil Meche Seattle was hitting 97 on the radar consitently today so I would think about upping the speed of his fastball to 96. Julio Mateo has 4 pitches Mateo has a deep repertoire for a reliever, with a low-90s fastball, a hard slider, two-seamer and splitter. The latter two pitches give him weapons to keep lefthanded hitters in check. Thanks for the heads up on Mateo. I went to MLB.TV to check out his outing last night. His 13 pitch at-bat to Sizemore showed me all four of his pitches. Here they are. Changed curve to a slurve and added changeup (which is not a splitter). Meche last night threw 93 mph on pitch that was bunted in the 1st and 94 mph on consecutive pitches to Hafner in the 5th (FSN Northwest). His speed is about right. A.J. Burnett- Here’s to those who like to reminisce: “Repertoire: Burnett is widely considered one of baseball's hardest throwers having a fastball that was regularly clocked at 101 mph in 2002. In a poll of major league hitters in 2002 his over-the-top knuckle curve was considered by many as the best pitch in the majors. AJ also threw a plus quality changeup. Basically, Burnett had all the talent and stuff to become one of baseball's best.†From:http://marlins.scout.com/2/238032.html Source for added slider: Last night’s Baseball Tonight. Backdoored 3 lefties with slider on highlights of his 13 K’s. Find corrections here: http://img170.echo.cx/my.php?image=corrections7tu.jpg
low42
You guys do realize that these rosters ain't ever gonna get done with the amount of transactions throughout the league on a daily basis, right? I mean, these guys can only do so much. I say pick a target date and don't go past it. They're going to be outdated no matter when you stop or how long ya keep going.

I mean, these guys can only do so much. I say pick a target date and don't go past it. They're going to be outdated no matter when you stop or how long ya keep going. A target date is used when someone is an employee and on deadline. We're not selling a product here. Donations have been eliminated. We're building a project based on people's personal time and realize many things can change. Just like Pirate with his stadiums, Hory's portraits or RichK with his .sav reader, wait and enjoy it when it's done or move on if you can't wait. bbythepier hi cant wait you to do the dodgers. your knowledge is great and so happy you working on the roster too for pitching. this roster is going to be the best realistic roster ever. jbmagicfan and others, A little presentation before the Dodgers, who I did next based on your comment I noticed in the thread. I just want to give you a little of my train of thought so it is not a mystery where I get some of my ratings. You could get an argument on Gagne’s best pitch, his 97-98 mph fastball or his sick “Vulcan†change. Either way, they are Top 5 pitches in their own right (IMO). Derek Lowe’s sinker is a Top 5 sinker, but wouldn’t crack my overall Top 10 or probably Top 15. Instead of going pitch by pitch and saying Brandon Webb has the best sinker in the league so it gets a 99 and everyone else is based off that, I have instead continually scribbled a Top 5 fastball and non-fastball list. I have it on one of those yellow legal pads and it’s in pencil with many erasures. I don’t change it from start to start, but instead when running across different pitchers and trying to fit their stuff onto my list. I actually create my list as if it were the LAST OFF-SEASON, because it’s too early to be ripping guys like the Big Unit because his fastball barely reaches 92 mph or worshipping guys like Pedro because they’re seeing the mid 90s for the first time in 3 years. Let these guys get to the warm months before we write their demise or sing their praise. This is inexact and HIGHLY debatable. But I build this list so as to keep the number of 95+ rated pitches reasonable and it helps me to build other pitchers’ ratings. I develop my rankings based on “nastiness†and results. I think Webb’s sinker is “nastier†than Lowe’s AND he has scored better results with it over the last few years. We had a little discussion about Contreras’ forkball the other day, and pitching gurus might say when it’s on, it is “nastier†than a split by The Rocket or Smoltz. Maybe, but the results don’t bear that out. So my rankings are based on movement (with non-fastballs) and “life†(with fastballs), along with the pitcher’s individual results. Again my Giants hat is taken off, but I realize your list could look totally different than mine. I just hope you would include roughly the same pitches in your list. The idea is not to wrangle over our lists, but instead see that my brain is actually working on this. Here we go. Yes, I can hear the screams north and south of me about Moyer’s and Hoffman’s change or from the Windy City about Zambrano’s sinking 2-seam or Wood’s 4-seam along with Millennium yelling about Ryan’s slider and many others. I’m just trying to limit the 95+ rated pitches to the signature pitches of the game. It’s hard. I just hope this helps in my effort to try and even out the ratings. GeForce spent a long amount of time last year working on the type of rosters these guys are doing, and he made a great set for opening day by mid-season. To help him out, jpup updated his set to include all transactions, so clearly it can be done and quit getting up in these guys grills who are only doing a service for the rest of us by doing this, and if you can't appreciate their effort or add to it (like bbythepier), please feel free to leave. michaeljjt
Wow. Sometimes I read these posts and I cannot believe how insanely tense everyone is here. Someone gives an opinion that you guys should pick a target date and these are the responses he gets?? It seemed like he was only saying that because there is so much work to be done, it just seems like everyone is overwhelmed. I saw no ill will or attitude in his post whatsoever...and maybe his concerns are selfish (like...i really want to play with the roster)..but that should be a freaking compliment. Mike You're right, I was a little harsh and edited my last post. No one is saying this will be up to GForce's Total Minors, but can you see how a perfectionist like GForce laid the gauntlet down. The contributors to this roster do this every 2 pages. I, for one, just get irritated when I see similar posts. I need to control myself better. First, thanks for the compliment. I was lucky...last year, for the most part, people were very understanding. I told people it would be a while, because with family obligations and work, the rosters were down the priority list. And they really didn't have a choice, because if I had gotten badgered I would've just dropped the damn project and let that be that, and I made that clear. To do this right, the way I've always done it, is VERY time consuming. It's much easier to sit back and wait for others to do it. But if that's the path you choose, there needs to be a courtesy to respect the time those who ARE doing the work are putting in -- and their entitlement to take breaks when needed/wanted. low42
I think you guys need to go back and read my post a couple of times until you can further understand it. I simply stated the obvious, that rosters are out-dated as soon as they are complete, no matter who does them, or what sport it's for. This has nothing to do with my attitude or my patience. Geez, and I'm the idiot here. I guess the smiley emoticon wasn't enough for you 'trigger-finger' types.
michaeljjt
Thanks for your response, bby...you know I think you, and everyone else is doing a tremendous job here. I just dont want to see it all go up in a smoke of flame (wars) ...I hope you guys perfect your rosters...but just understand alot of people are extremely anxious to get these and use them! And as someone who has followed the threads regarding gforce's rosters in previous years....he had a chorus (think Bart Simpson) of people constantly asking: is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet?? :)

Mike I totally agree. I took low42's comment as more of a good natured passing comment rather than an insult. I don't think it was meant to annoy the creators of this great roster project, and I really hope it hasn't. Maybe people can refrain from jumping on a perfectly reasonable comment in future - at least, I hope so. :)
