Long time reader, first time message poster.....well not too long reader...anyway, I'm not sure who or if anyone is working on the Cubs minor leaguers religiously but I found a site that could be useful in making the their rosters more realistic in terms of appearance (face / skin color) and could give some insight on some of their players statistical and scouting report wise. It's a pay subscription site but there is alot of free, good info (face pics) that can be incorporated into your Ultimate Roster Project in regards to the Cubs minor league affiliates and possibly a couple other MLB teams (cannot confirm because I haven't really had the time surf the site). Hope this info can be used and is useful to all those hardworking indivuals that are involved in this project.

For the face pics click on the Rosters and pic a player of your choice...

here's a cut and paste job for one of there draft picks

http://cubs.scout.com/2/372508.html

Cubs, Tyrell Moore

The fastball I throw is mostly two-seem in the upper 80's. I have a very good changeup. My strikeout pitch has always been my slider. I really just stick with those three pitches; they are the ones that really seem to work for me. My slider is almost like an 11-5 movement. Like most sliders, I throw it where I’d start my fastball and it will just dial out of the zone at the last second.â€

Moore takes pride in being a tireless worker. Because he doesn't feature overpowering stuff, he was able to go deep into the late innings during many of his outings with the Rams

I'm starting off my analysis of my sim of the Twins minor leaguers.

One oddity is Justin Jones, a top prospect of the Cubs when traded in the Nomar/Cabrera/Mientkiewicz deal. My sim has him 5.47 2-12.

I go into MVPEdit and find this:

JustinJones.jpg

not to mention that his fastball velocity is 36 and so is the movement...what is that an ephis pitch???

obviously an error....which, if you use Find in MPVedit and narrow your search on pitches with < 50 velocity or >15 movement, there are a number of players like this. Obviously some gross error created somewhere. Either by EA or through using MVPedit. Who knows the what the source is, but I would highly reccomend fixing this before you use the rosters for a dynasty.

Hey guys...Can you please make ezequiel astacio look more realistic in the next update. In 1.0 I think it was you have him way too light skin.I had thought he looked alot like dotel but after watching him in his debut the other night he sorta does but with a kinda like shaggy looking fro.But he is about like dotel skin tone maybe a lil darker.I personally think that willy taveras is too dark a little lighter sking tone hes more of a mexican tone not black.

thanks if you possibly can look into this and do a quick fix.

Have you guys made any changes to the prospects that were in 1.0? Or better yet, bby I know you've done a lot of work, but are you going to go through the hitters and do their tweaks as well? I think I've picked up from your work that you are a former pitcher so I'm sure that made pitching tweaks a little more appealing to your interest. But if we had someone that put in the quality work you did for pitchers on the hitters it would make the game VERY complete.

McCarroll,

Even if llcmac and HypnoxXx throw their hands up and patiencelessjoe and his compatriots run this project into a "Dead End" sign, I promise I will look at every prospect, especially your Braves. Whether it be with women, model train sets (my other hobby), or MVP rosters, taking your time and getting it right always seems to be worth it. At some point we all get to the point where a relationship won't work, you can't get that mountain tunnel just right or the roster tweaks give you a headache. I'm not there with any of these three possibilities yet.

I am 26. Time is on my side. What's the hurry?

bby...are changing any of those things the way you did affecting K's and Walks at all? Because with a plat discipline of 15..Ichiro is probably walking well over 100 times.

Hey Mike,

It's the ol' "pick your poison". Ichiro already had plate discipline of 13/15 when I was using him, so I only raised him 2 more points. Yes, his walks are 100+. When RichK comes out with his full fledged .sav reader and people want to look over stats like they're looking at the Sunday paper, will they be more concerned with Ichiro's BBs or BA. I picked BA. It becomes difficult to tweak all the #'s. For each player though, I believe they have a "signature" category. For Thome it HRs. For Ichiro it's BA, IMO.

Sometimes don't you just wish you could have a conference call and tell everyone things you tried and your thought process. My posts are already too long but here are things my "engineering" mind tried for Ichiro:

-if he hits the majority to the 3B side he can use his speed and beat out more hits: Answer= No

-if I tweak the game sliders MAYBE he can beat out "slower" throws or other BS: Answer= No

-if I make him a dead pull hitter, will that do the trick: Answer= No.

-what if I make him much better against righties, the predominant pitchers: Answer= No.

.

.

.

-if he has lower plate discipline he'll swing at more pitches and with 100 contact rating he'll get more hits and thus raise his average: Answer=No.

I know we have some engineers in the community. We get paid to be devil's advocates. I did the best I could with Ichiro. If someone comes up with something better, I'll be the first to throw my ratings to the curb and give them a "high 5".

I can tell we are either garnering more followers or more followers are feeling free to post on this thread. Either way, here is a repeat of my plan I have expressed earlier in this thread.

I would guess 90% of the followers of this roster will concentrate our playing in the pros, while keeping an eye on our prospects in the respective levels. Thus, I have spent considerable time with MLB P’s, even down to the 12th man in the pen. GForce’s hitting formulas are SUPERIOR tools to any mod available in determining batting ratings for position players. That being said there is NO formula where you can put in a “2.00 ERA closer†and it can spit out a flamethrower like Billy Wagner and a changeup specialist like Keith Foulke. It doesn’t exist. Pitching rating is anything but formulaic, IMO. That, along with my high interest in pitchers, is why I jumped into this thread and started spewing my BS. After finishing the MLB sometime this week, I plan on going to the minors, CONCENTRATING ON THE PROSPECTS FOR WHICH SCOUTING INFORMATION IS EASILY AVAILABLE (like the BA Prospect Handbook). I will not be spending considerable time on what I call career minor leaguers or former major leaguers in decline. They do not interest me, even in the Giants organization. My main concern with players like this is to make sure they are rated LOWER than the players in MLB, so they don’t get a callup and FUBAR the rosters. I have used a guy like James Baldwin on AAA-Ottawa, as an example He will currently get called up by the CPU and bump a young starter like Bedard or Cabrera on MLB-Baltimore. That sucks. Sure he may get the call due to an injury, but should not get a call for ABILITY.

Some of my work so far (from two nights ago):

(Remeber what affects OVERALL RATINGS for pitches. 4-seam is affected by control AND velocity. All others are affected by movement AND control.)

bby,

Why does a lower prospect have more control than a higher one (boo-hoo)?

Maybe the higher prospect throws harder and thus still has a higher OVERALL rating.

I'll tack it on, Dan. He must throw that change as much as Sheets throws his two-seam, like 3 times a season. I never see it on the Cards game I watch. Thanks for the heads up. It will be his worst pitch, though. I may have to massage the other pitches, because tacking on a sub-par pitch tends to FUBAR his sim stats.

Dan,

I forgot about this site a member suggested for the Redbirds and BoSox. Check out King's % of changeups thrown (<1%) No wonder I never see it. I don't even know if I want put a pitch in he throws so infrequently. I'll sleep on it. (If I was an EA or TakeTwo roster maker, and I'd just given up million$ for game rights, this is the stuff I'd request. You know teams have this info.)

King: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds.../scouting_king/

'04 Cards and BoSox:

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...ayoff_scouting/

Look at a guy like Schilling. He has 6 pitches. It is just a coincidence I left off the change, his most infrequent pitch. And Pedro's slider is the same thing. Damn I'm good. Evidence: The post mentioning this site was posted after I did my tweaks for those teams. (patting myself on the back)

bby, this doesnt have anything to do with your pitching tweaks but why is denny stark still on the bisons in your tweaks? he released a week or 2 ago and has since signed on with the rockies, also I was curious as to why you did not tweak billy traber when you did buffalo? do you feel he is fine as is, or did he get bumped down to double A in the latest update, or just simply forget about him?

My first Season 1 sim for the Twins minor leaguers are available:

AAA Rochester:

AA New Britain:

aanewbritainpit5zv.th.jpg aanewbritainbat3ee.th.jpg

A Ft. Myers:

afortmyerspit6dq.th.jpg afortmyersbat4ll.th.jpg

Notes:

-Plouffe in Ft. Myers hit 22 HRs. Way too much, PWR listed at 68 vs RHP. Knock it down into the mid 50s.

-Justin Jones is messed up (previously mentioned). His fastball should be around 90-91MPH (instead of 36, lol).

-Scott Baker. Should have Some sink on his fastball. His control needs increasing across the board, with the possible exception of his 4 Seamer, since he's projected as a No. 3-4 starter.

But everything else looks pretty accurate, as things go. Good work guys.

Stark is still there because....I don't know. Maybe I mistakenly used a previous version of the Ultimate rosters. Oops. I don't see Traber in the version of 2.0 llcmac zipped to me. Am I missing something? Is that a correction you've since made? Or am I using a different version of 2.0?

Like Ive been saying all along editing pitch types is one thing but you give a hack a little room to edit a few pitch types and it turns to hell he starts tweaking other things that arent supposed to be messed with. For Christs sake a 4 seam fastball isnt supposed to have any movement in this game, just look at the default rosters it doesnt matter if its a lefty or righty your not supposed to have movement or clock on a 4 seamer. Again if you were here last year or familiar with the mvp engine you would know that. Please dont tweak things that you know nothing about or better yet if you ont know what the effect does dont touch it please. Like I said it before and I will say it again some things you cannot tamper with unless you wanna have weird things happen like 4 seamers look like screwballs or changeups lmao. Theres a reason EA doesnt give any movement on pitch #1 the 4 seamer.

I think you are heavily mistaken they are not supposed to be released for awile as we just started testing them. He is giving them early to those people who help (only a handful).

Depending on when we get ahold of Kraw, the release of 2.0 on XBox/PS2 will probably not be tomorrow...I still am aiming at getting 2.0 out to the PC public tomorrow or Saturday.

Hypno - I don't know if anyone has them yet, but i know that I haven't even gotten the PC rosters yet, I've PM'd llcmac a couple of times about it. I know that you wanted the word docs for anything that we find by tonight, but since I don't even have the rosters yet it's not going to be possible for me to get you the Tigers by tonight.

Well G. Williams on Rochester AAA hit 23 HR's with Syracuse last year and had a79 RBI so maybe he needs some tweaking too or that may have been a fluke year

Good note-his power should got up into the 40s or 50s, I'll take a look at it in my next tweaks.

I'm gonna re-sim these two more times to make sure these patterns hold up, then I'll tweak them, sim again, and see what's best. Might take some time, but I'll get them completed.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Kerry Ligtenberg - Relief Pitcher

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of RHP Kerry Ligtenberg from Triple-A Tucson.

Ligtenberg had a 2.38 ERA in seven games since joining Tucson. He'll pitch in middle relief. ''I really needed someone I would consider a long guy,'' manager Bob Melvin said.

Randy Choate - Relief Pitcher

Diamondbacks designated LHP Randy Choate for assignment.

At least that two-year contract they signed him to means he won't be claimed. He'll probably return to the majors before the end of June.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays

John Webb - Starting Pitcher

Devil Rays sent RHP John Webb outright to Triple-A Durham.

Webb could have elected for free agency after clearing waivers, but he'll stay with the organization and report to Durham.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Jose Valentin - Third Baseman

Dodgers placed third baseman Jose Valentin on the 15-day disabled list with three torn ligaments in his right knee.

He didn't tear the big one, but it looks like he'll be out until the All-Star break. The Dodgers currently have three options at third base in Norihiro Nakamura, Olmedo Saenz and Mike Edwards. Another one, Antonio Perez, figures to come off the DL in a couple of weeks. Expect Nakamura to get the majority of the time for now, mainly because he's the best defensive player in the group. It would be tempting to use Saenz since he's off to such a nice start, but he no longer has the mobility to be even a decent defender at the hot corner.

Buddy Carlyle - Relief Pitcher

Dodgers designated RHP Buddy Carlyle for assignment.

Carlyle was sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas yesterday. He's clear waivers.

Mike Edwards - Third Baseman

Dodgers purchased the contract of third baseman-outfielder Mike Edwards from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Edwards, who was batting .284/.366/.444 for Las Vegas, is more of an outfielder than a third baseman, so he'll probably be used primarily as a pinch-hitter for now. If the Dodgers were less concerned about defense at third base, they probably would have called up Willy Aybar.

Minnesota Twins

Terry Tiffee - First Baseman

Twins recalled third baseman Terry Tiffee from Triple-A Rochester.

Michael Cuddyer had three hits last night. He'll need to keep producing in order to stay in the lineup now that Tiffee is back. Tiffee was hitting .267/.318/.483 in 15 games for Rochester.

Corky Miller - Catcher

Twins sent catcher Corky Miller outright to Triple-A Rochester.

Miller was 0-for-12. The Twins should have sent him down at the start of the year, but they were worried he wouldn't clear waivers and they had little in the way of catching depth if Joe Mauer went down

Seattle Mariners

Shin-Soo Choo - Outfielder

Mariners optioned outfielder Shin-Soo Choo to Triple-A Tacoma.

Choo received three at-bats in his two weeks on the Seattle bench.

Dave Hansen - First Baseman

Mariners purchased contract of infielder Dave Hansen from Triple-A Tacoma.

With Miguel Olivo and Wilson Valdez playing regularly, no AL team is more in need of quality pinch-hitters than the Mariners. Hansen isn't the player he used to be because his power is mostly gone, but he should be an asset off the bench.

New York Yankees

Bubba Crosby - Outfielder

Yankees optioned outfielder Bubba Crosby to Triple-A Columbus.

Putting Tony Womack in the outfield made Crosby expendable. He was 2-for-12 this season.

Sean Henn - Starting Pitcher

Yankees recalled LHP Sean Henn from Double-A Trenton.

Unless George Steinbrenner gets so upset that he DFAs Kevin Brown, Henn will probably head right back to the minors after starting Wednesday against the Devil Rays. Tanyon Sturtze would take his spot.
