Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles reacted to the offensive problems in Bowie by making a trade and obtaining IF-OF Simon Pond from the Red Sox for a player to be named later. Pond, a 28-year-old taken in the eighth round of the 1994 draft by the Expos, had his first cup of coffee last year, playing 16 games with the Blue Jays. He was traded in 2000 from the Expos to the Indians, released by the Indians in 2002, signed by the Blue Jays, released last winter and then signed by the Red Sox. He started this season in Extended Spring Training before being assigned to triple-A Pawtucket.

Simon plays 1B, 3B and LF. He will join the Baysox on Friday morning for a physical and then join his new teammates for a three hour bus ride to Reading. He had a .274 lifetime minor league average and hit .278 in 78 games at Syracuse last season.

Hey, patiencelessjoe is back. Good to see ya pal. I can see you used spell check this time (or partially) on your rant. Have a nice day.

If there are any respected members who are still wondering why there are small movement numbers on 4-seam fastball, all one has to do is watch Millennium’s Daniel Cabrera or jbmagicfan’s Steve Schmoll (and countless others) throw. Every one of their fastball’s has natural tail. They never go straight. A small movement number (3-5) on the 4-seam fairly represents this real-life trait. Giving them a 2-seam with these characteristics presumes they actually throw a straight AND tailing fastball, which in many cases they don’t.

Here are more AAA corrections-

(If a pitcher is not mentioned, his ratings were determined to be OK. I assure I used the latest roster update in determining changes. All prospects and page numbers are from the BA Prospect Handbook)

Jeff Allison from the Marlins is back after nearly dieing from a OD. I think he is in low A ball though. I would love to see him in the game. He was a first rounder 2 years ago.

Are the rosters gonna be ready by tonight? if not im going out

They won't be ready tonight. Most of the helpers haven't gotten their 'check-up' versions yet as Kraw needs to convert them.

Do everyone a favor, go out, for like the next 2 weeks.

How ironic you say that, considering your night of going out is depending on whether these rosters are released or not.

Thanks for the chuckle.

One thing, you guys should have a hot zone down the middle for every player, even pitchers, because most of the time, if a pitcher puts a pitch down the middle, more then likely it will be crushed. That's just a side note for you, hope to see these soon.

That's not always the case.

Just because a pitch is right down the heart of the plate doesn't mean that it's gonna get sent to the next time zone.

I can't recall how many BP fastballs I've popped up because of this - and BP fastballs generally are right down the middle anyway! And I was a fairly decent hitter too...

It has a lot to do with how good the hitter is. Yes, I can see good hitters (Bonds, Pujols, etc.) crushing mistakes down the middle. I can't see every hitter crushing a pitch down the middle however, the best I can see is them making contact with (almost) every pitch that's thrown straight down the middle - and whether it's a hit or not depends on how hard it was hit and to where it was hit. Simple as that.

There are, of course, hitters who absolutely loathe a pitch straight down the middle. It's because of their swing... look at guys who have a dead-center cold zone in the game, look at how they swing in real life. They generally have a hitch that makes them uppercut at every pitch, which in turn means they usually get under a ball that's waist-high - assuming they're on time of course!

And of course it's NOT that simple. :p

Hitters in this game already kill the ball thrown down the middle.

Since BBY is whipping through AAA tweaks so fast, I'm going to let him finish the remaining 14 teams (Omaha-Tucson) before releasing 2.0...This also gives those of you testers who needed xbox/ps2 rosters a chance to send us your suggestions and corrections (I just emailed the rosters to Kraw about 1/2 hour ago...)

The new guesstimated release date will be Monday, May 9th. Another update featuring late suggestions/corrections/fixes etc will be released about a week after.

A reminder to roster testers...If you haven't received a copy to test (and you need PC), I'd suggest PMing me tonight or tomorrow during the day if you want them in time to get your tweaks and suggestions in. If you need an xbox/ps2 version, you'll have to be in contact with Kraw as I'm not sure when he'll be able to convert.

I'm not sure who or if anyone is working on the Cubs minor leaguers religiously but I found a site that could be useful in making the their rosters more realistic in terms of appearance (face / skin color) and could give some insight on some of their players statistical and scouting report wise. It's a pay subscription site but there is alot of free, good info (face pics) that can be incorporated into your Ultimate Roster Project in regards to the Cubs minor league affiliates. Hope this info can be used and is useful to all those hardworking indivuals that are involved in this project.

For the face pics click on the Rosters and pic a player of your choice...

I was wondering if any of the roster editors considered my info useful towards perfecting the Chicago Cubs Affiliates AAA, AA, A......thanks

You know what bby you never cease to amaze me with the way you come up with this stuff im not here to kiss your a$$ or praise you like everyone else im here to give you feedback. Jose Capellan sure does have a 2 seamer but according to you he does not ???? so apparently you know more then he does huh? you rated his curveball way too high as his best pitch is the 4 seamer not the curve. I noticed many of other weird ratings you gave other people as well. So you mean to tell me your logic of making his fastball low and taking away his 2 seamer and then raising his curveball control so you can "hold his stats back" so in other words you pulled these ratings and many others out of your butt? I mean come on you made this guy unhittable already by giving him a 21 mph slower changeup ?#$%

please tell us are these gonna be accurate and true to life or not? :x

Cincinnati Reds

Ricky Stone - Relief Pitcher

Reds purchased the contract of RHP Ricky Stone from Triple-A Louisville.

Stone had a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings for Louisville. With Josh Hancock and Luke Hudson on the way back, he might not stick around for too long.

Joe Valentine - Relief Pitcher

Reds optioned RHP Joe Valentine to Triple-A Louisville.

Four straight bad appearance had taken Valentine's ERA from 3.12 to 9.53. This isn't unexpected at all.

Minnesota Twins

Daylan Childress - Starting Pitcher

Twins claimed RHP Daylan Childress off waivers from the Reds.

The 26-year-old Childress is just a fair relief prospect. He struck out 77 in 81 2/3 IP while splitting time between the pen and the rotation for Double-A Chattanooga last year and had a 6.75 ERA in 14 2/3 IP as a reliever for Triple-A Louisville this season. The Twins shouldn't need him, and it'd be a bit of a surprise if he managed to stay on the 40-man roster next winter.

Seattle Mariners

Dan Wilson - Catcher

Mariners placed catcher Dan Wilson on the 60-day disabled list with a torn right ACL.

Wilson will undergo surgery in two weeks and is out for the season.

Wiki Gonzalez - Catcher

Mariners purchased the contract of catcher Wiki Gonzalez from Triple-A Tacoma.

If Gonzalez can put together a couple of multihit games early on, he could earn himself a lot of playing time in place of the struggling Miguel Olivo. However, at the moment, he can't be viewed as much better of an option in AL-only leagues than Dan Wilson was.

Texas Rangers

Matt Riley - Relief Pitcher

Rangers designated LHP Matt Riley for assignment.

Riley had a 9.95 ERA and a 4/10 K/BB ratio in 12 2/3 IP for the Rangers. There's still quite a bit of potential here, but at this point, it's anyone's guess whether he'll ever realize it.

Kameron Loe - Relief Pitcher

Rangers recalled RHP Kameron Loe from Triple-A Oklahoma.

Loe was 2-1 with a 5.08 ERA, 32 H and 23/10 K/BB in 28 1/3 IP for Oklahoma. The big right-hander isn't much more than a potential fifth starter and he'll be a middle reliever for now. There's a good chance he'll return to the minors by the end of the month.

Sorry, bud, I didn't mean to imply that you had them. I meant that they weren't able to get ahold of you yet, meaning you didn't convert them yet

Bad wording on my part.
