Kccitystar
Post any tips for owner mode here. I'm in a financial hole at the moment, in the negatives with about 900,000 in debt. I'm not sure what to do to recover this debt, especially when they take away money when i'm not playing at home.
KenDammit
my tip is when you're coming down the homestretch of your season, start raising prices of your tickets ever so slightly and pay REAL attention to them during the post season. You can also do this with consession stands, and you will make a load of money VERY quickly. Other than that, don't try to buy too much too quickly, save a little money for here and there. jg2977
I think what you have to do is add promotional days right at the beginning of the season, when you still have money. Once you're in the hole, you have no money to buy promotions, except for offering free tickets. Don't bother with promotions for games against rival teams or on the weekends, as fans will show up to those games anyway. For example, if you're the Yankees, you've got to encourage people to come out to a Tuesday night game against the Devil Rays or Royals. I'm about $400,000 in debt right now, but I've got a long homestand coming up which should earn me plenty of money, so after that homestand I'll have more money to buy promotions for future games, as well as buying more concession stands. I would imagine that it would be better to keep ticket prices and concessions a little bit lower in the beginning of the year, as it would keep the fans happier. When you're in a pennant race in August and September you could raise the prices because fans will come out to the games anyway, and you'll be able to make more money that way. It's probably very important to win, because a winning record = more fans = more money. We need to make a sticky for owner mode tips so that 100 separate threads aren't created on the same topic, and so that advice is easy to find. Kccitystar
here are some tips from some users down at operationsports.com Don't build up your stadium right away... make sure you get some concessions... (one of at least 4 kinds). Don't start buying duplicates just yet (i.e. 2 icecream). The biggest thing is you need to look at your sales just about after every series. It'll tell you how many tickets you sold, and also it'll say your last four games... so if you adjusted the ticket price by $5, and you had a net increase/decrease, use that info to your advantage. Also, if you have a hot team coming into down, bump it up $5. I seemed to make most of my money later in the year, especially in a pennant race... I had over 90% sales for my front row tickets priced at $65... as a guideline. Thus far, I've built up through level 3 (33,000 seats)... I need $20 mill surplus to get luxury boxes, so that's my next goal. I'll worry about decorating the stadium after I get a good stream of money coming through... So I've pretty much been simming a series at a time... I adjust the prices each series, if needed... Remember, it's probably better to have slightly lower ticket prices and slightly higher concessions, because you need the people to first get in the door to get your concessions... Pay attention to your capacity (shows up in schedule) and if you're selling out. I typically have about 80% capacity. Some series its worse, the good teams its over 90%. I wouldn't buy any arcades/museums... they don't make you money... once you start profiting each game / seriers / month and you have extra dough, maybe... If you aren't selling concessions, your prices are too high... you'll just have to lower them. Don't forget to run promotions too... A tip on promotions. BUY THEM WHEN YOU HAVE THE CASH! After a long road trip, you may go into the red (negative) since you didn't have any ticket/concs making money... so buy the promos after a home trip, or at the beginning of the year... buy like 10-15 games worth... so im gonna try this again with my phils, ur saying for now just worry about playing games and winning and nothing else? or do u think i should be trading players to cut my payroll(which i dont want to do but i will if it helps) and should i raise ticket prices and also do i have to play in my created stadium to make the money or can i switch and still make money? Well if you're balanced, look to tweaking ticket prices. Typically, each series brings a new draw... if your thing says the mets are coming, and it's a 10/10 game, you can bump the prices up... If the pirates come and its 2/10, you'll have to lower it back down. Also look at concessions and make the necessary adjustments to maximize revenues. If you have some dude making a buttload on the bench, drop'em, but if you're making money and your team is competative, don't drop your stars else you'll start losing... KenDammit
personally, I dont' see a problem with owner mode. I like trying to make money and things like that. Dynasty is for playing, owner mode is for being an owner...so if thats your thing..I dont' think theres any problem with it whatsoever other than its hard. five
I bet there is a way in the schedule.big file to schedule all of your games at home. That might be cheating a bit, but EA has really irritated me with a few things this year.
jg2977
If they made owner mode too easy, where making money was like stealing candy from a baby, then wouldn't it be boring? I like how it seems to be challenging. And from what I've heard from other people playing the game, you really don't start making money until at least August in the 1st year. So if you've only played a week or two in your season, you shouldn't get too discouraged. As long as you schedule a few promotional days and keep the prices at a reasonable level, it should work pretty well. Besides, if you keep up with the latest sports economics, it would appear that most sports teams are actually losing money. (Especially NHL hockey teams). DirtyDozen
I agree. It also forces you to try and sign/trade for less-expensive, up-and-coming talent instead of just going with all the big-contract players to win. It does seem like an uphill climb at first, but I would imagine that's exactly what it's like when someone buys a team at first. You invest a ton of money up-front and hope that it pays off down the road with a winning and profitable ballclub. Besides, there's always regular Dynasty Mode if Owner Mode isn't fun for you. At least they didn't just replace Dynasty Mode with Owner Mode and force us into being owners.
NYM
heres a tip.........people say trade your big name players....(arod, piazza, sosa, beltran).......well u dont even have too!!!!! trade dead wait on your team....for example.......i traded doug mancavage and jason phillips....i ended up getting 4 low priced prospects....it saved me 4 mill!!!!!!! i was in 1 mill dollard debt and now im only in 3 mill....but sadly lost it while on a road trip.....but lucky me i have a 2 week homestand coming up(not sure if its 2 weeks but its REALLY long).....and now i use galarga(ordinary pinch hitter) and hes a big success for me batting over 300 with 10 HR.....so u see......the key is trading dead weight on your team...people you will never use.... Kelvarr
Don't build up your stadium right away... make sure you get some concessions... jg2977
You could sell back the seats and buy concessions with that money. Or if you're not too far along you could start over.
