The mythical front uniform numbers

After lurking all through the lifespan of MVP 2004 I've been wanting to get involved with throwback uniform creation. I've started by playing around with the 1979-1982 Cubs Road uniforms (improving on what EA started with the 78 road unis). The thing I noticed with this and other modded unis is that when you add to a new slot, the sock style and front uniform numbers are not available. I've sifted through tons of posts about the number topic and have yet to find an answer. My thoughts are that either the slots are hard coded to override the uniform with specific characteristics (ie helmets, socks, front numbers, etc.) or there is a data file buried somewhere that dictates what characteristics that uniform slot maintains. I've sifted through the fsh and big files with no luck. Is there anyone that has any idea on how the uniforms are dictated?
