Peter5897
I thought that the combination of making money and having a skilled team was impossible in Owner mode but my major league team is ranked 4rth best (skill wise) and I have a total payroll of around 40 mil. I'm even making money when I play on the road! What did I do? I started off with the New York Mets and traded every player that had a payroll of over 3 Mil a year. Who does this include? D. Mientkiewicz, M. Piazza, C. Floyd, M. Cameron, S. Trachsel, K. Matsui, B. Looper, K. Benson, T. Glavine, C. Beltran, and P. Martinez. What's my starting rotation look like now? J. Santana V. Zambrano J. Pineiro C. Silva J. Lima with F. Rodriguez closing my games. My Batting order looks like this... R. Baldelli L. Rivas C. Crawford S. Hillenbrand A. Rios D. Wright J. Reyes D. Wilson (pitcher) I know no one probably cares but I thought I'd share just in case people wanted to try out my team to start their owner mode. KenDammit
I made about 7 million in my third year with the Red Sox. Of course I was already 4 million in the hole at the start of the year, but things might work out pretty well for me in year 4. And yes, I pretty much simmed the first three years. APR
I don't like the idea of trading away every good player you have. Why not do a fantasy draft instead???
smart88
I don't like the idea of trading away every good player you have. Why not do a fantasy draft instead??? Because you get a set budget when you don't do a fantasy draft. But maybe if you did a fantasy draft and drafted all the overpaid players, since you have a budget based on payroll after a fantasy draft, and traded them away, you could make some monster money. peterbernard
I've tried to do this and had negative results. Whenever I trade away a big player, I get an e-mail informing me that I've lost merchandising revenue because I'm spending less on players. It's never based on the star rating of the players, it's based on their salary. I've only done fantasy drafts each time, I'll try starting out with a team and trading them to see how that works out if I have time to get back to that. Owner mode is alot of work. Peter5897
Yes I traded away some big name stars but my team ranking still went up with my 100 mil drop in payroll. BTW I ended up getting rid of J. Lima for D. Willis and gave D. Wilson back to the M's for M. Olivo, also ended up getting F. Hernandez. I also noticed I don't really have a set power hitter in place so I was trying to trade for a power hitting first basemen with a low salary but no one would bite at my offers.
