boulet430
I've been hearing a lot of guys saying there is something different about the portraits this year. Im not good at most of the modding, but I can do portraits, and Im about to get the Adobe CS software. Anyone willing to post here what the steps are to create new photos this year? In terms of the eazip, etc. I always just did it through MVPedit.
Kriegz
I will help you with that once I can get into MVPEdit But everything is the same I think exept for the compressing part of it
therealjerk
i did a few portraits for personal reasons last year, and i've read that you need to compress this year. I did a sample portrait just to see and the game worked fine, although the background was not transparent for some reason -- i used the same method as i did last year, in which case every portrait i had was transparent -- is this what you guys mean when you are talking compression? if i can get this working right, i'm willing to do a classic portrait set for anyone interested, as i have high quality scans of about 3000 players from past and present from my extensive card collection, just want to clear up this issue first before i tackle it --
therealjerk
nevermind, i figured out my portrait problem -- there is no need to compress if you're using MVPedit -- it's the exact same as last year --
joshbeckett19
the real jerk can you send me your file ?
boulet430
so you did not need to compress it using mvpedit? Does the background show up transparent or no?
therealjerk
had to use MVP Edit, but someone in other posts mentioned that another program needed to be used to compress it -- this is not the case, pictures come out fine and yes, backs are transparent --
cable901
realjerk, what did you do to make the background transparent, because I'm uploading the 24-bit portrait and the 8-bit alpha just fine, but the background still isn't transparent? What do I do?
therealjerk
what program are you using? i use an older version of adobe photoshop -- if you have an 8 bit alpha and a 24-bit portrait, it should work just fine -- the biggest thing to keep in mind (if you are using photoshop) is to make sure you don't CUT and PASTE the background into the 8-bit alpha -- instead, create a new 128 X 128 file, select the layer and DUPLICATE it -- also, make sure the 8-bit alpha is in greyscale, not RGB, otherwise, the point is moot -- it is the exact same as last year, i can assure you, and thanks again to RGLASS for MVPedit -- as for my progress, i'm plundering along here, and by the end of it, i plan on having high-quality portraits for every player in the game -- this could be a stretch, but i'll do my best, considering EA does such a crappy quality job in this dept. -- if anyone is interested in my stuff, i will be happy to share --

Whats the size of the portraits this year? Still the same as last year?
therealjerk
yes, works out to 128 X 128 -- i do my portraits a little differently than others than i've seen on this site -- i go for a mix of 'action' shots and 'portraits' -- also, i don't do mine with much consideration to current team affiliation -- i.e. in my set this year, vlad guerrero is wearing an expos toque, a young roger clemens is still with the red sox, etc ... hell, i even have have kevin millar wearing a KFC bucket on his head -- i know many guys here aren't interested in team portrait files unless they are updated with current team affiliations, and that's cool, but that's not much fun to me -- many of my portraits come from scans from my old baseball card collection, so they are a lot better quality than you will get in the game, or even get from some websites out there -- that same, stale, unclean head shot set that EA provides is just boring to me --
rglass95
MVPedit will compress the file for you this year. It will not do your laundry.
