I'm trying to edit my camera views. I understand everything OK except for "heading". If I have a camera situated in short right field, what would be the approximate setting for "heading" (so the camera faces home plate)? Thanks for your help.

just taking a guess, maybe try something between 5-15. if you can imagine a camera in short CF and it was facing home plate, its heading would be 0. now imagine that camera moved over a bit into RF. if you left the heading at 0, it would likely be facing the seats on the first base side.

however, to get that camera facing the plate you need to rotate it a bit clockwise. now what does that mean? imagine you were directly above the camera, looking down at it and it had a compass dial around it. rotating it a few degrees clockwise should turn it in the direction of the plate.

how much exactly unfortunately I can't say. with some patience and trial-and-error, you should be able to get what you're looking for. just keep in mind that when translating that movement in the datafile, a clockwise heading adjustment will be a postive value. hence, my shot-in-the-dark at 5-15 degrees.

btw, sometimes it helps me to make a quick layout on paper so I get my bearings correctly. I can't say how often I've screwed it up trying to do it in my head.

Is there a difference between editing the BTP camera (Camera 6) and the other Camera Views (1-5)? I ask because I'm having a heck of a time trying to edit BattingView3. I've situated it in foul territory outside 3B (and 1B). Just when "Heading" is about right (aimed toward home plate), I'll make a slight adjustment (-0.500, for example) and suddenly I'm facing the OF wall. Is there another setting I need to change? I hope it's something simple (I've already wasted enough time with it). Thanks.

hmm I'm not sure what's causing the camera to turn so much. can you post your settings?

I can try tinkering with it myself so I can get a better feel for what you're seeing.

I'm satisfied with this camera view. However, the home plate umpire has disappeared.

Think of heading as camera angle in relation to home plate,

like degrees of a circle, except it is expressed in radians.

looking straight back at the pitcher represents 90 degrees,

or .785 radians. reversing your view (pitcher looking back at home plate)

changes it to a negative (-270 degrees or about -2.35 radians).

The camera will move about 15 degrees for every .13 you add or subtract.

Find your XYZ, find your desired angle from there, then convert it to radians

by taking Angle/360 multiplied by pi (3.14159).

to reverse your view add or subtract pi.

Thanks for the insight.

So that means what I thought was a slight adjustment (0.500) was actually a much larger adjustment. Now, if I can only figure out how to make the home plate umpire reappear. Any ideas?
