Valiknicoff
I just started a random screw around game to practive hitting in this game. Before I would just go up and in and hope for the best.... And in the 3rd inning against the Tigers, it hit me. I figured out how to hit, how to pull balls, when to pull balls, when to stay infront of pitches, when to sit back, when to be agressive, what to do with certain batters, how to play against righties and lefties. where to aim the stick against low pitches and hit pitches. And now on All star, I don't don't swing at every pitch with red lace. I had a 22 hit game, where before getting 6 was lucky....and I could only get as much as 9 with the Astros ...in Minute Maid. But it hit me...I figured it all out, I understand this game, (didn't help that I am pretty new to baseball) But I figured it out with the Freaking WHITE SOX... GAWDDDDDDDD

GAWDDDDDDDD  same thing happened to me. And now I draw walks like nobody's business. I never swing at the first pitch unless its obvious where its going. Hitting is getting a lot better now. My goal is to be able to play my dynasty at the MVP level by opening day.
qpontiac
Well please explain it then, because (and this is embarrassing), but I was 2 hit last night, and then I tweaked the contact and power to +10, but still, everything I hit goes right to someone...I'm trying to be patient, but still I get jammed on pitches resulting in weak grounders, and it's not like I'm upset about the difficulty, in fact, it is what I want out of a sports game.... Hopefully, with the 30 exhibition games I will be playing, by Opening Day, I'll get something going...

I started taking every pitch even if it struck me out, and just watched how the CPU pitches. You will see that they form patterns. I mean I still get jammed, I still hit lazy pop ups and weak grounders, but that happens all the time in baseball.

I didn't swing at anything while I learned the way the pitches moved and the patterns that pitchers throw. Just let a few at bats go where you just watch the ball movement, and you begin to figure out the way it works.
MichLucia
I guess I take a diferent approach with all my batters. With my leadoff and 2nd batter, I always take til I get 1 strike on the batter. I try to wait for a fastball, and when I see it coming, I drive it towards either left or right field depending on the location of the pitch. With my power hitters I really try to hit the first ball that I get a great read on , on the inside half of the plate. Whether it be a rocket line drive, or a homerun.. this normally gets the job done. Just look for an inside pitch to drive. Okay, you are always going to face off against pitchers that just confuse you. MY best advice, is DRIVE their pitch count up. Sooner or later they will start to tire, and make more mistakes with their location. Be patient when choosing pitches, and when you get 2 strikes on you make sure to defend the plate because you have to swing at anything close. APR
So what would you suggest to improve your hitting for online play.
Cris987
My 2 cents is that you shouldn't just free swing at anything. It might work if you're Alfonso Soriano or Vernon Wells, but apparently (maybe you are, i dunno) you're not. Take a look at more pitches before swinging. Look at how the pitches move and how fast they're. Take not of the "late, early" system. And don't be afraid of being called on a 3rd strike. KenDammit
My philosophy is easy. My first time through the lineup, I have no clue how the guy likes to pitch, so I just hope to find something in a zone that I can drive, all the while taking mental notes of how he works the zone. by the time I reach my second time at the plate...I usually know his pattern through most hitters, how he pitches with runners on first, with more than one runner on, things like that. Most often the pattern will be away, in, away, in, until an out or hit is made. On power hitters the pitcher may stay constantly away or never really get into the zone depending on whether you've swung at bad pitches earlier in the game. Overall, the more patient you are, the fatter the pitches will become. I'm very guilty of swinging at pitches that aren't even in the zone, and sometimes that hitter won't get good pitches all game because of it unless the pitcher makes a control mistake.
