pstrickert
Do people worry about realistic stats? For example, does it matter if batters with average power hit 40-50 home runs? Or if a batter who (in real life) makes good contact strikes out too many times? I guess I'd like to know if I should expect somewhat realistic stats in this game. Also: Has anyone run any tests to see if stats turn out okay?
FBPro
IMO, this is the most important part of the game. If the game isn't able to reproduce realistic stats then it't not worth playing.
JaFFiTh
yeah I agree it's one of the important part, eventhough I wish they didn't leave out Double Plays on the statistics since it's probably one of my favorite feature of the fielding stats. Good ol' High Heat, dammit! Also to answer the question about the stats..I've tested a couple sim seasons, the stats aren't right on, some are good some are overrated, like Omar Vizquel hitting 24 homeruns one season, and pierre, castillo, those low homerun hitters usually hit at least 10 or more, if we're lucky, below 10 homeruns. JohnE66
The problem is the ratings are off 1 year stats and they round up. For instance Vizquel - 377ab 46k 6hr vsR last year 377-46 = 331 time he put the ball in play and hit a HR 1.81 % of the time and MVP rounds it to 2. His lifetime % is .93% or a 1. So effectively he has a good shot at getting double his normal HRs. Most of the time it is the VsL that messes up the stats because there are so few ABs to go off, but sometimes a fluke year can alter ratings vsR as well, especially due to injuries or platooning. Still, he shouldn't get 20s, in my sims he gets about 10. If he is editing to a 1 it will drop more. In short the sim itself is fine, the rosters need editing, as always with any game :)
pstrickert
Good observation, JohnE66. Would it help to globally edit PWR numbers using MVPEdit? I suppose not. I hate to think about how much work is needed to edit numbers. (Didn't GForce do that last year?)
JohnE66
Actually, I think it is more siniser in that pitchers have the same problem. My guess is that pitchers, especially relievers, can give up some awkward vsL and vsR stats. The game probably adds a factor to the hitter, so now that 2 is a 3 or 4 power. In addition, there is probably some season factor that will increase ratings for a year or perhaps if the player starts well, he has his ratings boosted. I haven't tested enough to be sure, but if the players are rated correctly those #s should drop. Yes, G-Man did some nice rosters last year, but I believe he is not doing it this year. I seem to recall he said he would help though. Too bad we can't convert last years rosters and edit from there
