JohnE66
I have done this in the past, but 2 kids in Little League and a 3 year old have me tied in knots. I am hoping someone here can do this. Depending on what web site, I used yahoo before, you can get VsL and VsR as well as home and away stats by year. I was hoping to use some XML tricks, but all the websites I have seen are html for the source (bastards) so I am not aware of an easy way to parse the data other than line by line looking for certain criteria in the file to tell the program where the data is. Anyway, here is the deal. Can someone volunteer to write a script or program to download the data to a CSV or some other format that roster modders can use? My thoughts are many layered. 1) You can recreate any (recent) single season if you wish 2) More importantly, rosters can be based on a larger profile of a players stats, this can help alleviate anomolies in one year wonders, injury shortened years and part timers who had a good year in limited at bats. 3) This could be used to get the lastest stats for the 2005 season, so you can get the latest stats to compliment young players such as Chris Burke, Brandon Backe and Jason Lane (Can you tell I am an Astros fan?) 4) Someone could write a program that will import the data and allow people to choose parameters to adjust stats (stadium effect, how much weight each year has in the calculations, formulas for contact, power, etc..) for generating ratings automatically. 5) I would recommend having a low and high value as well. If a players has under X ABs or IP and their stats were out of a base line (say under .230 Bavg for hitters or over .280 batting avg, etc..) then their stats would be adjusted to a more moderate value of min .230 and max of .280. Any takers? I am a programmer, but I also have more time constraints than I use to with the kiddos  as well as fairly new at programming. I know I can, just don't know when I would finish 8O If others want to take the ball and run, it would go much quicker and I am willing to help out any way I can.
