Question I have to ask, does this really make a freaking difference? So they changed the name, it's not like they moved away from the city. Sure it's stupid, but I really don't think it's an affront worth the indignation it's causing. And it's certainly not something that needs "saving," especially since the team has had great success over the past few years.

The fact is that LA is the much bigger city, and so it's only logical for them to want to incorporate the city into the name. Nothing more than that.

Man, can you imagine what the people of this world could do if we all focused on things beneficial to everyone? It would be amazing.

They are pissed because it essentially renounces the city as part of the team. Besides, what's better than having your city, Anaheim, talked about all across the country? "Hey, Anaheim is looking good this year." It's all about money, and the city spent a lot of it on the team and they are essentially getting nothing back from the team other than disrespect.

Ok, since they play in Anaheim, they should be forced to be known as the Anaheim Angels or else they're lying, right? Sounds good. No team can take the name of a city unless it plays in that city ... here's a few other pro sports teams that must be renamed:

Orchard Park Bills, East Rutherford Giants, East Rutherford Jets, Irving Cowboys, Auburn Hills Pistons, Uniondale Islanders, Sunrise Panthers, Raleigh Hurricanes and Glendale Coyotes.

Sound good?

Again, you're picking other teams in other places that accepted these names BEFORE the teams moved there. They based their decision to build stadiums, provide land, and all of that on the condition that the team would be named something else. We didn't. The city of Anaheim NEVER accepted the Los Angeles name on the Angels, they took the California Angels, and later had it contractally obligated to be the ANAHEIM Angels.

The people of Anaheim and Orange County will never accept the Los Angeles name! Don't you get it? WE DON'T WANT LA IN ORANGE COUNTY! We find it to be a major insult to be associated with Los Angeles! And now we're supposed to support a team that's wearing that name instead of our own? Get out of Anaheim if you don't want to represent Anaheim. Get out of Orange County if you don't want to represent Orange County.

This is why the Rams failed here! Nobody from LA would come down to see them, and nobody down here cared. It's not logical to wear the name of one area, while playing in an area that resents being bundled up with that first area. We'd rather have no team at all then have a team that represents Los Angeles.

It's not just money! This is our whole identity at stake here. We are not a suburb here in Orange County, we're a metropolis in and of ourselves. A metropolis that doesn't rely on Los Angeles to employ us, or provide us any services other than media (which I would love to see changed). If LA were wiped off the face of the Earth, Orange County would survive just fine. That's not the definition of a suburb.

In fact, in some ways, it's Los Angeles that relies on us. Last year, Anaheim had more tourists than LA. That's right, more people came to visit our "little town" than Los Angeles.

Orange County has more residents than San Diego County. 1.5 million more residents than the entire Cincinnati metro area. More people than the Kansas City metro area.

Basically, what people think is that we should just accept whatever name he wants to put on the team because the team is doing well, they aren't leaving. Well, 1, if they don't represent us down here, we don't want them here. I'd like to see them thrown out of the stadium, so we could bring another team in, someone that would be proud to be Anaheim and Orange County's team. I'd like that team to be the Angels, proudly wearing the Anaheim name again, but if Moreno refuses to do that, I'd be happy to support another team here.

Second, he's threatening to move the team! He's already mentioned that he's talked to several other cities about moving the team, and that the stadium in Anaheim is old.

I swear, some of you people sound like a battered wife who won't leave her husband because he "loves me." You take all of this crap from your teams, let them do whatever they want and get away with it because you don't have the strength to stand up and tell them what they're doing is WRONG.

Well, I don't fall in that category. Moreno might own the team, but that doesn't mean he should get a pass because he's increased payroll. Everything he had done before the name change was done in order to build up his popularity so he could change the name. This was his plan from day 1 and he admitted as much. Maybe some of you are taken in by smokescreens such as this, but not me. I'll admit that he marketed himself perfectly, but changing the name revealed that is all it is, marketing. He's not a nice guy who wants to give the fans what they want, he's leading a carefully planned attack to remove the Angels from their home of nearly 40 years.

That might mean nothing to you, but it means a great deal to me.

Anaheim is in the Metro area of Los Angeles, Which makes Anaheim a minor city in the area of a major city ( unlike San Fran - Oak - San jo, They are all major cities with almost the same size population ). Just like my NYC we have Newark, Jersey City, Yonkers, Stamford, Bridgeport.. You get the point...

Still, The Angels rep Anaheim, Won a championship for Anaheim. Changing the name of where they Angels represents is fuked. It made Anaheim unique in my book, A small city with a pro team, A respected pro team at it too. I bet you most of the fans were from Anaheim and of course along with alot of Orange county and maybe a few in L.A and else where in the MLB world.

I like the original representation for the Angels, I only hope they will change it back. :(

Christ! Thats like changing the name of the New Jersey Nets ( NBA ) to the New York Nets of New Jersey because the majority of the ppl in NJ live in the NE part of the state, Part of the NYC metro area and the arena is only 10 minutes away from NYC. Still you get my point, It makes the region unique... I want them back as the ANAHEIM ANGELS DAMN IT Was on of my fav teams until the name made em look slappy!

Ironically, aren't the Nets moving to Brooklyn and becoming the Brooklyn Nets in a year or two, or are at least trying to?

As for the fan base, somewhere between 65 and 75% of the season ticket base is from Orange County. This isn't a case where just because two tams both play in the same media market, that they have fans equally spread out through the area. That's what New York is like pretty much from what I've seen. There isn't too many geographic lines drawn between Met and Yankee fans, but out here, like in the Bay Area, there is a clear line drawn.

In more ways than one, Orange County is a Red State, and LA is a Blue State. This is why the name change will be a disaster (and already has been).

Hey SpanishFly, in your roster set the 9th position in the Batting order is null for these teams:

Albuquerque Isotopes

Durham Bull

Portland Beavers

Round Rock Express

Tucson Sidewinders

also, both AL Lineups for the Portland Sea Dogs are missing the first baseman.
