LastPickedForTeeBall
Is there going to be a Name Generator mod this year? Because I'm sick and tired of seeing the same names over and over again.
LetsGoOakland
Yeah, I would be very interested in this mod as well.
UncleMo
I stuck with 03 for 2 years, how does this generator work, or how did it :?:
steroid
Could someone please make sure to have ethnicly correct names, for example: I dont want to see Hidecki Beltre, or Kazihito Morris, or names like that. Its just not cool. If it is possible, I think this will be a major download............... I understand american born Japanese players have normal first names with a Japanese last name like Ken Tadano or something to that likeness, but if your going to have Japanese or Spanish traditional names for players, Have it to where they generate accordingly and not mix them together. I hope noone takes offence to this, Im not trying to stereotype anybody, just trying to be helpful.
LetsGoOakland
I understand what you mean. My name is a bit of a combination - Matt Ortega (although Matt has a Spanish translation, the spanish name - Mateo - is not my birth name). Some are very ridiculous. GForce22
Does anybody even know where the names are stored? GH
Playball335
Yep, it is in the rookies.big file in the database folder. The big file contains a names.csv file in it.

It uses gfxpak, doesn't it, but when I click on that application a window pops up quick then disappears without allowing me to do anything. AlexTony
will this generate a list of all player names available? for instance Tony3 put together a list (revised a couple times last year) with a number that was associated with all audio files. it gave all payer names the number that associated with the audio: players, managers, legends, rookies and alot of just last names. anyone aware of a similar list for this year? UncleMo
Can we ADD our names to the list? I want my name in there Ahmadieh. That'd be cool if Tito Ahmadieh was a rookie name. Just a question for use weird named folks.
bbythepier
UncleMo- someone will have to check the code. name generation might be based on another file which has the current players names (like attrib.dat), in which case a current players name would have to be changed in order for you to become a "rook" at a random time. or it might have a list of current names in the file itself, in which case the list could be altered. let GForce or another member figure it out, as i'm not familar with this file from the past. polarisslbm
Is there a way to know for sure what last names will have play-by-play audio? Miller does, but for some reason, Johnson has not, but that was for a pitcher.
Playball335
GForce, I have been using BigGui to import/export files out of big files.

frozzted
Downloaded this and ran it, but everything comes up garbled in excel, so I can't tell anything. GH Don't use FinalBig. I had that problem too. I used BigGUI and .csv's loaded up nicely in Excel 2003.

GForce22
OK, here's the story. Apparently, the Names file they have took players from the past 2 or 3 years (Masato Yoshii's name is in there for example) and bases frequency solely on that. There are the same number of first names as last in the file, some obviously occurring more than once, but there are the same number of entries, so this is obviously how they did it. It's just a csv with a first name column and a last name column. This setup is why you end up with hybrid-ethnic names...there's no qualifier for asian/hispanic/"black"/"white names to go with each other. Nothing, just a random pull of the names and such is life. So if Michael Garciaparra had made the majors, the file would have, say 4 entries for "smith" as a last name, and 2 for "Garciaparra", even though Smith is a name that occurs in real life much more than twice that of Garciaparra. I can't work around the ethnic names issue, it's regrettably a flaw within the setup. I can, however, redo the names file to include far more names with appropriate frequencies to allow for greater variety of rookie generation. There will be, literally, thousands of possibilities when I'm done. GH
