excremento
(also posted this at simcentral.net...I want to resolve this) I got into datafile.txt and edited all the BattingView4 lines, but when recompressing, I get: C:....gfxpack -compress -real datafileEdit.txt datafile .txt old size 4392187, new size 704711 ************ Fatal Error ************ -- compression test failed! original <> compressed->decompressed! Any ideas? I've downloaded some other gfxpak files, but they haven't helped.
Twins879105
I had the same problem. You need to use EA ZIP to extract and uncompress the datafile. There seems to be a compression error generated when GFXPAK is used to unpack datafile.big or extract from it. I had the same problem. five
Try using eazip instead: http://www.nba-live.com/download/pafiledb....=file&id=
krawhitham
gfxpak has problems with some files, I notice this when doing rosters last year. GFXPAK compresses tighter so always try that first, if it fail EAZIP will do the job
excremento
Many thanks, gentlemen. Now I can use a less claustrophobic batting view...as long as I did it right.
excremento
Or perhaps I spoke too soon. I've found some other posts on how to use eazip but I'm not have much luck. What's the command to compress the datafileEdit.txt into datafile.big
Twins879105
eazip +a datafile.big datafile.txt also, it's much easier to create .bat files than to use a command prompt. just open up notepad, type in: eazip +a datafile.big datafile.txt PAUSE and save it as: repack datafile.bat You can double click it and it will execute. excremento
okay...getting closer. I appreciate the assistance, but now I'm starting to look like a dweeb...but perhaps a dweeb would understand this. Here's what I've done and what's happening I have eazip, datafile.txt and the batch file in my C:Windows folder. In case that's not right, I also have them in my C: directory. No matter where I run the repack batch, I get: ERR_OPEN I read somewhere to type eazip /? to get the commands but that doesn't do anything... Again, thanks for the expertise... Twins879105
the datafile.big must also be in the same directory. All files should be in the same directory. you can also use GFXPAK to repack the datafile. gfxpak -real -p datafile.big datafile.txt PAUSE
excremento
Hey, i think that did something! My datafile.big has the current date. The only thing...it took just a moment. is that okay? So, it looks like I replace the datafile.big in the MVP directory, whereas with gfxpak I had a compressed datafile.txt, eh?
Twins879105
Shouldn't take long at all. You must compress the datafile.txt before you repack it. your datafile.big should be exactly 2.77 MB if you did it right.
excremento
hmmm, it says 2.78 MB. You said compress datafile.txt before repacking it....but that's what this whole post was about. I had an uncompressed datafileEdit.txt that I couldn't do anything with. Did I miss a step? I thought those steps were to compress. I'm used to gfxpak where I just compress the datafileEdit and run with that.... Sorry for the continuing questions.
gepetto
can anyone mod the datafile to get rid of the choppiness; i'll pay you money for it.
Knight Owl
Since I'm seeing datafileEdit.txt in this post, I'm assuming that you are using the little compressing/decompressing utility I made for MVP Baseball 2004, and I apologize, I discovered the same thing the other night...it's not working on this year's datafile....it decompresses it, but once you edit and save, it doesn't recompresses it....if there is interest in an updated version, I'll try and get that fixed as soon as I get a chance....sorry again... excremento
Any further tips? My 2.78 MB datafile.big definitely doesn't work, so I need to fix something.
Twins879105
It's best to use one directory for everything. Use EAZIP to extract, decompress, recompress, and repack. make a .bat file for each step. If the game crashes while loading it may be because of an error in your datafile, caused by GFXPak's decompression. If the game crashes while starting a game, it's because of an invalid entry in your datafile. Make sure you are cutting and pasting correctly, or simply edit the line manually, changing entries 15,16,17, 41, 42, and 53 for batting cameras. If you started with a datafile which was decompressed by GFXPAK you may have to start from scratch. Step 1: extract: eazip -e datafile.big datafile.txt Step 2: decompress: eazip -u datafile.txt Step 3: Edit Step 4: recompress: eazip -c datafile.txt datafile.txt Step 5: repack datafile: eazip +a datafile.big datafile.txt
excremento
Twins879105: Thanks again for the continuing assistance. I went through all the steps, and it seemed to work fine, but there's one possible problem. Once again, my finished datafile.big file is not 2.77 MB. It's 2.78. All I did was change the values for BattingView 4, entries 16, 41, & 53 (on all 4 lines for that view). Since you stressed earlier that it be 2.77, I assume this a problem (I'm at work so I can't load it up and see if it works). Do I need to repack the datafile, or can I just use the compressed datafile in my data folder like I did in MVP 2004 with gfxpak?
spitoon
You know, you don't really have to keep packing it back into the datafile.big...it works fine to just leave the extracted datafile.txt in the /data folder...it just saves you a step...plus if you screw something up you've still got the original datafile.big to fall back on... Twins879105
In the /data folder? ahh.. that explains it. I was leaving it in the /data/datafile folder and it wasn't recognizing it... thus my need to repack it. thanks.

Correct, you can leave the datafile.big as it was, and just put the datafile.txt into the /data folder...don't ask me why, but it's probably a product of testing, becasue I know it's way easier this way when I'm editing, testing, and re-editing the datafile to just have it in the /data folder...rather than extracting, unpacking, editing, repacking, and re-inserting everytime :)
